The Space:
Texas Home Sweet Home is a custom built adobe home on 40 acres. The home is decorated in a Texas theme and features all the comforts of home.
Relax on the huge covered front rock porch. Enjoy the well-appointed kitchen with lots of storage or relax in the living room. Sit down at the dining table and enjoy eating, talking or playing a game with family and friends.
Texas Home Sweet Home was originally built in 1975 and was subsequently gutted (other than the adobe walls) and rebuilt by a builder and his son in 2001. The builder had a love for the natural rocks (including petrified wood) from the Terlingua area and incorporated them into the beautiful rock wall and rock pillars that grace the house, as well as the front stone porch (look for the fossils). The house is decorated with Texas Flair.
The house features two large bedrooms, each with a king size bed. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, standard kitchen wares, fridge, dishwasher, gas oven and range, microwave, blender, slow cooker, and more. The dining room has a large table that is great not only for meals, but for playing cards or the many games that the owners have provided. In the living room, you will find a gas fired fireplace (gas logs) and a smart TV for streaming using the basic free option or your subscriptions. The two bathrooms are more than ample with the main bath featuring a tub/shower as well as washer and dryer.
Outside is a Texas Sized front rock porch that you will be sure to enjoy. Sit out on the rocking chairs and relax, or set up the picnic table and enjoy a meal outdoors, gather around the firepit and tell stories, or star gaze, or just take in the views of the surrounding mountains.
Bring your dogs. Texas Home has a fenced yard with shade and pet friendly interior. Two dogs maximum. A pet fee of $200 will be charged.
The word Texas comes from the Caddo Indian word teyshas meaning friend. Fittingly, we are delighted to open this home to new friends.
You are welcome to make some wonderful memories here!

This property was nice and the house was very clean and comfortable. If you’re looking to get away from it all in a remote spot, this is it.

We stayed 3 nights while visiting Terlingua & Big Bend. A few minors things to fix around the place and the road to the house is very rough at the end. Overall, it was a good stay.

A great stay - everything as advertised!

We spent five nights at Texas Home Sweet Home and could not have been more pleased. There are other lodging options nearer or within the park but our experiences with everything from porch sitting and the fire pit to night sky watching and the Terlingua Ranch pool made it worth the drive. We felt like locals instead of tourists. The tips from the host for provisioning the cabin were spot on and the Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. Highly recommend!

The house was much bigger than we expected! Great for 2 families or couples since rooms are on opposite sides of the house. The rooms are big and we appreciated the comfortable king size bed. We had plenty of room to have our toddler on his air mattress next to our bed.
The fire pit was a huge hit! We spent every night out by it and brought our reclining lounge chairs to enjoy the millions of stars after the fire went out.
The road to get to the Texas Home is easy to access and drive on. It’s only a short distance of gravel that any car could handle. The check in process was a breeze. We didn’t see the updated wifi password and had no water when we arrived, but they have a land line with provided phone numbers so we were able to easily call and get both issues resolved immediately. Big Bend Vacation Rentals was wonderful to work with.
My only “complaint” is the showers didn’t feel clean which was probably the only thing I really wanted super clean coming in from hiking. Hopefully, they consider this for the future, but it wouldn’t deter me from recommending. Comparable to other places, this home was truly underrated due to its size and the property. We fell in love with it and our toddler loved exploring it. We would definitely book here again! Thanks for a wonderful stay and the unforgettable family memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime!

This property was as-advertised, clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Since it is about 30 miles from Terlingua, we headed out early for each day's expeditions, both in the national park and the surrounding areas, and returned in the late afternoons to relax, and enjoy the solitude and gorgeous sunsets while cooking dinner, listening to music, and playing cards. We had good communication with the property managers, and had everything we needed.

Owner emailed good information.
As previous review weeds needs to be trimmed to see if any critters . there is no local TV. take your apple tv if u want to see TV , Watch out for 2 large dogs that live across the street ( they wouldn’t let us out of car till the owner called them.

Tranquility
Property was exactly as it appeared inside. Wonderful front porch we enjoyed every morning. Needs a little upkeep but we were here during the off season. Property nice parts awesome. Need to get away from the turbulence of the world. Come here. You are a good distance from what the general public calls civilization for example MacDonalds, cell phone service ( sporadic) there is internet so you won’t die. All in all a wonderful place. Check out Lajitas and both the National and state parks!!!

Lovely stay in Terlingua
It was a lovely stay and the place exceeded our expectations. We loved the view of the sunsets and sunrises over the Chisos mountains and watching the stars at night. It’s very spacious.

Amazing views!
Our group enjoyed our time at Texas Sweet Texas. We spent most of our time hiking in the Big Bend National Park. It was refreshing to come back, wash the trail dust off, and relax on the comfortable, Texas size furniture.
We all slept well!

Great Time
Great experience. Been to this area several times - but never rented a house. Having our own, private place to stay made it extra special.

Perfect for star gazing!
Loved the lack of light pollution allowing for spectacular views of the stars. Was able to take pictures of the stars, Milky Way, and even some shooting stars with my iphone. Really enjoyed our stay and the house was perfect for two couples. Already planning our next visit.

Remote with amazing views
Our stay went well. Property managers/owners very responsive. House is clean and comfortable. It is a very remote location, but also in the middle of all the sights and activities in the area. We had an assume time and enjoyed our stay.

Pepa's Place
We chose this location because our friend (Jason), who we stayed with was the grandson of the man how built the house. Jason spend a summer down there helping with the construction. We just happened across this listing and decided it was meant to be. Our weekend was spent with wonderful stories of the building process and Pepa (his grandfather). It was a fantastic trip!

Big Bend Getaway
We really enjoyed the home and property. Saw lots of birds and rabbits - saw deer one evening. The home had everything we needed for our stay - we ate at the house for breakfast and dinner every day and packed lunch for hikes in the parks - both the national and state park. We had the good luck to be there when the cacti were blooming and got to see lots of wildflowers along the Terlingua Ranch Road. Our favorite part of the house was the fossils in the rocks outside. Very peaceful - we'd stay again!

Texas Big Bend Treasure
Clean and just as we expected in VRBO. Enjoyed the location and the quietness. Loved the fossils in front of house on stones. Had everything we needed in kitchen to prepare meals at home. Would love to come back!

Perfect getaway
Despite having major water issues with the pump system I still gave this property 5 stars because we had such a great time there. Very isolated which I loved , so if you can’t handle a 45 minute drive home once you leave the park this property is not for you. For us it was so worth the drive. Nicely decorated, a fantastic view, stars to die for, and a lovely shaded terrace from which to enjoy the view. Daryl was extremely attentive to our water pump issues which once solved would not stop me recommending this property..

Family Trip
The house is cozy and well-equipped. Heater in the living room keeps the house warm when the outside temperature is 30 degree. I will definitely recommend this place for a family trip.

Nice and remote
Property is nice, but could use a little updating. It is very remote (13 miles off main road). Very nice views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Lots of birds and some wildlife (mule deer visited almost daily). Very peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed the covered fire pit on the porch. We had a minor inconvenience with running out of water. However, a representative from the management company answered our call on thanksgiving day and walked us through getting it back up and running (property has a sistern and well). Overall the property suited our needs and we really enjoyed our stay.

Overall a great place to stay if you want a secluded peaceful location in the Chihuahuan Desert in the Big Bend area. The house was very clean and well maintained. This place is larger and more spacious than the photos show. Sitting on the front porch in the evening is really a joy. The property managers were very responsive and genuinely interested in making sure everything was good. I enjoyed the wildness of the location, just remember that this location is like 13 miles off from the highway. For those interested in wildlife this is a great location: a slow drive down the paved roadway at night will reveal several species of toads and snakes, owls, rodents, javelinas, foxes, coyotes and various arthropods. Daytime will reveal lots of birds, deer, and lizards. It is amazingly dark at nighttime, the night sky here is jaw-dropping. (Just remember that house lights attract all kinds of insects at night, and other things that eat them, but I enjoy that too.)If you are looking for a place off the beaten path this is the perfect location.

I would not recommend this house.
House was full of bugs the first morning, ac never cooled one bedroom, 35 miles from park entrance, light in the bedroom was burned out, back screen door would not close without picking it up.I would not recommend this house.

Loved it!
Great place to stay. As with anything the Big Bend area, if you want a "feel" for the place, be prepared to drive everywhere. The house itself was very spacious and clean. Beds were comfortable. Front porch *awesome*. Would stay there again. One thing that was a little annoying was placement of light switches and figuring out which ones worked for which light. Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say for the entire property. Can't go wrong with it.

Getting lost - in a good way
This house is located 13.5 miles off the main road. The access road is paved with only about 3/4 of a mile being gravel. All that to say that once you arrive you are in the middle of no-where which is pretty cool. The house is very comfortable, clean, and well decorated. The quiet and isolation was awesome. Sitting on the front porch watching the sun rise or sink was a great experience. Definitely recommend the property.

As close to heaven as I can get.
I rented this property because it was the last house that my parents built. There are a few changes that were made that totally improved the overall stay! The decor is impeccable and the cleanliness is superb. Thank you for making my trip a memory I will never forget. Can't wait to return!

Great stay!!!
Everything was perfect. I agree with several other reviewers concerning the distance away from the park(s) being somewhat an issue. BUT... we knew it and planned accordingly. The views from the front porch were awesome (mountains and stars). We would definitely consider a 2nd stay at this lovely home if returning to Big Bend.
