About this cottage rental
This 816sqft 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom historic cottage is only 100 yards from the ocean and near the intercoastal waterway. With ample decks (20' x 30' connected to 20' x 10') surrounding it, this cottage has 6000 sq. ft. of private property. we have central Air for cooling and heating, The interior has old southern heartwood pine on the walls. It was part of a group of houses built in the 1930's in this area of Vilano Beach. Originally a fishing village, the area was constructed by an aviator named Reiss, a colleague of Charles Lindbergh and founder of the St. Augustine airport. Used by military families during WWII (a German spy occupied one of these cottages), it later became a motel called the Pagoda.
You'll love the natural beauty of the still-unspoiled area of North Florida. You can walk along a peaceful, uncrowded beach and just relax, or pick one of the many activities nearby: para sailing, deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, boating, cycling, bird-watching, hiking or golf. St. Augustine is only two miles away, Jacksonville 45 minutes away, and Orlando is a two-hour drive.
Vilano Center is 2 blocks away, which has been restored to its original Art Deco style. There is a major grocery store, several restaurants and a fishing pier. There are regular concerts at the pavilion.
Guana State Park is 8 miles north of us on A1A. The old town is 2 miles away, and has retained its original architecture from the 1600s. There are many galleries, and an art walk the first Friday evening of each month. There is a large farmer's market on Sat. morning on St. Augustine Beach.
National Geographic selected St. Augustine as one of the most beautiful cities during the holidays when there are a million lights illuminating the city beginning Nov. 17 through Jan. 31.

This was a perfect little spot for me to decompress from my son’s move in day at Flagler college. I wanted to be close by but not TOO close. This was such a short drive to him and. Location was right next to the beach.
Would stay here again.

This is our 3rd time staying and, as always, we had a fantastic time! We really appreciated the updates in the second bath and the dishwasher in the kitchen. Thank you, Jackie!

Small bungalow great for one or two couples. Clean, steps from the beach. Cold AC, close to the ancient city, but far enough away to have uncrowded beach. The owner is terrific. We highly recommend!

We came to visit brother who lives in area. Wanted a place by the beach where you could also walk to get a coffee or something to eat. This cottage was perfect for our needs. When we were able to just relax at our home away from home we thoroughly enjoyed the indoor outdoor living. The cottage is decorated so charming and had comfortable beds for a great night sleep! Loved the outdoor space with hammocks and nice size outdoor deck with shade option! Highly recommended!!

Awesome place, great location. Only issue we had was that the clean towels were still wet so we had to take them to a laundromat to dry but everything else was amazing. Thank you so much.

I have stayed at this property previously and enjoyed it so renting it again was my plan. The cottage is small but perfect. Upgrades include air conditioning in each room which was great as the weather was very warm. My family visited for a beach day. We had a great day.
I would rent this property again.

Host was extremely accommodating as Hurricane Ian spoiled our initial Flagler Family Weekend plans. House is a super cute cottage- super convenient to everything and lots of Instacart and Ubereats options for delivery. It’s a split plan so really two couples could stay and have their own entrances and bathrooms- pretty awesome feature. I would highly recommend and will possibly return should I want to stay in Vilano Beach again 😃

Charming, rustic cabin was clean and well equipped. Jackie communicated well and answered questions promptly. Short walk to the beach which is not crowded even on Labor Day weekend. It’s right on A1A so you do hear traffic when you’re outside, especially the Harley’s but you get used to it. Overall great stay.

We loved the easy beach access and proximity to the grocery store. A fun getaway.

Had everything as advertised
Great location! Everything as advertised right down to the towels. As two couples we had a great time at this rental, but again it’s about location. The beach is just steps away. Others have complained about traffic noise and it is bothersome - but worth it. Would stay again!!

Year 2 - great beach stay!
This was our second summer here and it was wonderful! The updated AC units are fantastic. Jackie is a great communicator - very quick responses and so helpful! We love that it's such a quick walk to a quiet beach and to Publix. We'll be back!

Great Property!
This property is steps away from the beach and is perfect for two couples. The bedrooms are on either end of the house with bathrooms and there is a small common room and kitchen area. We stayed for days and it was fantastic!

A Nice, "No-Frills" Location
Jackie was a very responsive host. Pros: It was a very short walk to gorgeous Villano Beach. The house was well equipped with all the basics. Bed was comfortable, there were patios off each of the bedrooms. The fire pit and hammock were great additions. Grocery store, gas station and a few restaurants within walking distance.
Cons: The location was right on A1A, so if you're looking for peace and quiet, or to hear the waves, this isn't it. As a single woman travelling alone I would have liked to close the gates to the driveway. The beach equipment was sub par, but to her credit, Jackie did offer to reimburse me for a beach chair if I wanted to purchase one. The landscaping needed some attention. Lastly, the tile floors could use a good scrubbing around the edges. And the bedding was clean but seemed worn and dated.
It was a decent place to stay, but I can't give it 5 stars.

Rustic little cottage at the intersection
+: Bigger than it looks, kitchen has everything, close to the beach, beds comfy. Great for college kids.
-: very small, too close to the intersection ( very noisy), roaches and possibly fleas ( woke up with bites). Furniture in LR pretty worn out - rips in cushions. Bathroom sink drain stopped up, impossible to use.

Stay in St Augustine
The property was in a very convenient location. It was mostly very clean. Tile floors were a bit grimy. Bathroom sink did not drain. I contacted the manager and she did respond saying it needed to be vented. It was plugged and if it needed venting this must have been an ongoing issue. The yard and outside area were great. Some dog waste in yard so beware if barefoot!
Overall good stay and we would return. Fix the sink!!!!

This Is Not The Caliber of a VRBO House
My husband and I checked into the house this afternoon around 5:00 p.m. We found the house totally unacceptable. It smelled of mildew, the rooms were much smaller than anticipated and one of the bedrooms didn't have a closet. It was dark, there were bulbs out, and it was cold. There were no guides on setting up the heater or any instructions. We left this house & found nicer accommodations in St. Augustine and did not stay at this house. The pictures of the property & house do not represent the accommodations at all. When speaking with the property manager/owner she was defensive. We have stayed in the U.S. and internationally with VRBO for years and have never had this experience.

Efficient
The kitchen and coffee station (grinder included) are well equipped. Publix and Pizza are across the street. The showers are hot and the grill is new and clean. I was tempted to help out with upgrading some of the handyman work because the place is so lovable. Our 11 yr old was comfortable sleeping on the sofa in the living room. We would do it again. We should have brought our Bluetooth speaker.

Great Beach House
We enjoyed our stay! Proximity to the beach and grocery made for a relaxing stay. Everything we needed was provided. The temperature was comfortable and easy to adjust.

Lovely Place
The cottage and the location were awesome. My husband is a sports fan. The only tv was streaming. There wasn't any cable. He was upset about missing football games. My 8 year old Grandniece was next door and ran over to visit. She ran barefooted into a patch of sand spurs in the yard. That wasn't fun. Other than that we had a wonderful time. Thanks Jackie

We came into town to enjoy St. Augustine’s giant Christmas - this cottage made a great home base.
Pros:
- awesome location. Walking distance to Publix and the beach. Short two-mile drive to the historic area
- house is loaded with tons of blankets, towels, etc.
- Cute decorations
- off-street parking with close able gate
- super cute outdoor patio/space
- host quick to respond
Cons:
- the floor was filthy (bare feet turned black in a matter of minutes. The main hammock had a layer of dirt that we only found after our son sat down on it.
- light switch in the main bathroom didn’t work. There was a nightlight that helped at night if you had to use the restroom, but the shower was unusable after dusk. We reported this to the owner the first night. She was apologetic, but said it would take too long to order parts to fix it before left.
- bedroom with sliding glass doors to the patio let’s in a ton of light, so put your early risers in that room
Overall happy with our stay. The festivities in town were amazing, and this place was located in a great spot to avoid the craziness and cost of staying in town without being too far away.

Great stay
This was my second stay at this property in the last year, excellent for families with small children due to the closed in backyard. Will hopefully return again soon.

loved the privacy of having the whole property -did not share property with other check ins like the ones around us=all the little different areas to enjoy inside the property-close to beach -shopping and places to see- manager/owner was very helpful and cared about the comfort of our stay

This is the first poor review I’ve ever given a service or product but unfortunately, I feel it is the right thing to do. The cottage is as advertised. The reason for the poor review is due to mistreatment by the host. Shortly after we arrived, the owner accused us of violating the rental agreement and then proceeded to harass and insult us throughout the remainder of our stay. Her messages were aggressive and unnerving, and I began to fear for our safety. Be aware that cameras are installed on the property. The owner did not make us aware of the cameras, which violates Vrbo policy. We observed cameras outdoors but, based on her aggressive and threatening messages, we became concerned she had installed cameras inside the property as well. She saw our friends walk on the property and accused us of not respecting a non-existing agreement. Our privacy was violated, and we felt spied on, even though we adhered to all policies. We had friends vacationing in nearby houses. My husband, daughter and I were the only ones staying at the cottage. We invited our friends to park at the cottage and walk with us to the beach each day. A few of our friends went in briefly to look at the cottage and over the first few days 2 or 3 people (at most) used the toilet. Because of this, the host accused us of violating the “agreement” regarding occupancy, gatherings, and parties. I informed her we would no longer allow friends to park at the cottage or use the facilities during the day. I felt I was going above and beyond to appease her, but she was not satisfied. Using the cameras, she must have viewed our friends dropping off and picking up chairs, because she then accused us of lying. I tried to be as polite and respectful as possible, but nothing satisfied her. Throughout the week, she continued to harass us by sending unsolicited information on public restrooms and parking. In summary, her actions greatly undermined our peace of mind and compromised our enjoyment of the vacation. We have no idea why she was so hostile and unwelcoming. We took great care with the cottage and did nothing to violate the terms of the rental.
