About this house rental
Iconic north woods lodge and caretakers cabin located on the shores of Upper Clam Lake in the heart of the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest in Clam Lake, the elk capital of Wisconsin.
Vacation like a lumber baron!
In 1926 lumber baron L.L. Barth built the Clam Lake Lodge on idyllic lakeshore on Upper Clam Lake. Mr. Barth built the lodge as his family's summer home and as a private resort to entertain friends, celebrities, and business and political associates. The Clam Lake Lodge contained amenities in 1926 that were only attainable if you were a tycoon, like L.L. Barth. Fast forward 87 years and the Clam Lake Lodge has returned to its glory. Truly fit for a lumber baron, the lodge contains amenities not seen in many north woods vacation homes. Come to the Clam Lake Lodge and vacation like a modern day lumber baron!
Clam lake lodge and Wapiti Cabin sit on 350 feet of Upper Clam Lake frontage one mile south of the village of Clam Lake, Wisconsin. The property has incredible views of Campfire Island, which sits in the middle of the lake. Clam Lake is located in the heart of the 860,000 acre Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. Clam Lake is the only town located in this 725 square mile section of the Chequamegon (roughly the same size as the Minneapolis/St. Paul twin cities metropolitan area). Clam Lake is blessed with an abundance of activities, and Clam Lake Lodge and Wapiti Cabin are the perfect places to call home for you to base your adventures.
The Clam Lake Lodge is a 5,200 square foot private resort built by lumber baron L..L. Barth in 1926. We purchased the lodge in 2012 and made extensive renovations to this beautiful building. The Wapiti Cabin, right next door to the Lodge, is the former caretaker's home.
The lodge has 4 bedrooms upstairs all with private bath (toilet, sink and shower). Each of the bedrooms measures 18x14 for 252 square feet. Bedrooms 1 and 2 have two large windows overlooking the best views on upper clam lake. Bedrooms 1 and 2 each have a queen bed. Bedroom 3 has three twin beds. Bedroom 4 has a queen bed and a twin bed. The upstairs at the lodge has 7 beds that comfortably sleep 10 people.
The Wapiti Cabin has 2 bedrooms, one full bath and a complete kitchen. The master bedroom has a queen bed, the second bedroom has 2 twin beds.
The downstairs area includes the 925 square foot bar/amusement area. The u shaped bar is topped with an old bowling alley floor. There is a queen sleeper sofa for additional sleeping. There are 3 booths for informal dining, game playing or for solving puzzles. The nook overlooking the lake has a poker/game table and chairs. There is an 80 inch Sharp smart television on the wall behind the bar. A Bose surround sound system sounds great. The television is Netflix ready. We also have a Sony Blu-Ray player which also provides internet music and video services. We provide free wifi with a 10 meg bandwidth. The bar has a complimentary pool table. There is a Galaxy dart board as well as a Big Buck Hunter HD 2 player game. The Big Buck Hunter has the 42 inch deluxe HD screen.
The kitchen has been completely remodeled. New granite and cherry butcher block countertops were installed. A keyhole countertop is installed over a cedar stump that was harvested from our land in the National Forest. We have a 6 burner Wolf range with a 34 inch griddle/fry top. The Wolf also has twin ovens. A 36 inch wide refrigerator/freezer is provided. A farm style sink and a dishwasher complete the kitchen. The kitchen has wonderful views overlooking the lake.
Between the kitchen and the lakeside windows is the dining room. The dining table was built by a local craftsman and is 12 feet long by 4 feet wide. Twelve Amish built hickory dining chairs surround the table. Perfect for a large group or a business meeting.
Through the french doors from the dining room lies the library. The library has tremendous views of the lake. When it is dark out, turn on the many Tiffany lamps and start a fire in the fireplace. The fireplace was built out of locally quarried black granite nearly 100 years ago. The library shelves are stocked with an eclectic selection of reading materials to enjoy while you are at the lodge. This room is one of the most comfortable and awe inspiring rooms in the North Woods!
Outside, the lodge provides an aluminum floe dock with swivel rockers on the 350 feet of sandy lake frontage, northwood outdoor patio furniture, a gas grill, and a fire pit. Not to mention our bronze bull elk and 13 foot long riding musky!

If a "Rustic" up-north vintage cabin-like experience is what you are looking for, this is your place. If you are looking for a modern lake home feeling, keep looking. There were 18 adults, and one child in our group, and all enjoyed their stay here. Some of them had childhood memories of their cabin days growing up and truly enjoyed the ambiance. The 2 things that stuck out were the large dining table we could all fit around, and the new large walk-in tiled shower in the small house that Grampa and Grandma stayed in.

We had 18 people, 8 adults and 10 children, at Clam Lake Lodge for a long weekend and everyone had a great time. We kept busy boating, swimming, hanging out in the bar area, using the fire pit and hiking at Copper Falls State Park. There was plenty of space for all of us between the main house and the cabin next door, and Clam Lake Junction just down the road had anything we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked and the lake offered lots of fun for our group. The property managers were responsive and helpful with any questions we had.

We very much enjoyed our stay. This was a vacation with my parents, siblings and all of our kids. There is plenty of space for everyone to spread out and do their own thing as well as big common space to all be together! We all liked that each bedroom had its own bathroom and beds were comfortable. When it rained, we enjoyed playing games at the tables with booths or big family games at the huge, long kitchen table. When the sun was shining, we enjoyed the beautiful lake! We would definitely visit again!

This place is AMAZING!!! We stayed here the end of July with 11 people ranging in ages from 12-76. The house is absolutely HUGE and perfect for large groups. There is plenty of space to get away from each other and the additional house on the property was great for some of our guests needing to get some work done while we were there. My father uses a motorized scooter and was able to maneuver about the house without any difficulty in the scooter. The bar area was perfect for everyone with the pool table, dart board, and big hunter game. The kitchen was amazing for our large group and being able to cook for everyone all at once was fantastic and helped to not keep us in the kitchen all day. The boat was an added bonus for the kids to be able to knee board, fish, and just for some nice relaxing boat rides. Just an FYI the non wake hours are only from 11-3, not a big deal, our kids would have been on the boat knee boarding all day had it been allowed. The outdoor space is magnificent from the back deck, side yard, small disc golf area, and the fire pit, we lived at the fire pit every night!!!! The response from everyone was practically immediate and spot on with everything from simple questions to needing gas in the boat. We cannot boast enough about our experience at this location. This was our first time doing a large family outing and we can't thank you enough for the amazing experience we had. Make sure to stop at some of the local bars up the road too, such a great time!

We loved Clam Lake Lodge! The property was exactly what we needed for two families to get away with 4 kids between the ages of 6-11. Makalya, the property manager, was wonderful to work with. She was exceptionally responsive and helpful. The space itself had all the things we needed for a wonderful trip. We were disappointed that the owner made the decision to include a picture of the Big Green Egg with the online pictures of the property but won't allow renters to use it. The long description of the property says grill use but it's buried and not explicit that the Egg use isn't allowed. I wish they had only included the grill picture because by the time we heard back that the owner would not allow us to use the Egg, we had already shopped and planned to smoke some dinners. Over our week stay we only caught one very small fish and the lake water was chilly but that didn't stop the kids from swimming and the pontoon was perfect! Overall we had a great stay and have fabulous memories from our week at Clam Lake Lodge!

Beautiful way to celebrate with family. Wonderful lake and surrounding. Large enough cabin to enjoy our entire family. Loved the large table setting and kitchen! Lots to do and see😊

The main lodge was really great. The bedrooms were large and it was a huge bonus that each had its own bathroom. The bar area was amazing, so much fun. The kitchen was perfect for our large group to cook for several people and then use the keyhole bar for a buffet style service.
Unfortunately the wapiti cabin had a few issues including a mouse problem and gas leak. The leak was repaired immediately, so we appreciated the responsiveness.
Overall, the place was a lot of fun. I would consider this property again in the future.

Spacious, clean, and well kept. We had 8 adults, 8 children, and felt very at home here. The commercial sized cooktop, griddle, and double oven kept meal prep time to a minimum. We loved the peace a quiet! We have water lovers in the group and found the swimming to be great (sandy bottom with minimal weeds), fishing off the pier was sufficient for entertaining kids and adults, and ample space for outdoor games in addition the spacious fire pit. We also loved the wildlife - bald eagle's nest within view of the cabin, two loons we could watch and hear all week, and elk that could be seen about 1/3 mile from the cabin. Just a lovely, lovely place.

Clam Lake Lodge and the cabin were exactly right for our family reunion of six siblings, spouses, adult children and two grandchildren! Ages 7 months to 70 years!
Yes, the kitchen is indeed *fully* equipped as advertised, which is a rarity in my experiences. (Bring your own spices, though.)
The *only* thing that we wished for was a stair lift down to the dock (for arthritic knees and hips). But that's a bit much to hope for, isn't it?
Highly recommended! Thank you Coby, and Rich!

Our sons and their families had a great time. The lodge was clean, spacious and had many activities for the grandkids. How nice it was to be right on the lake with a pontoon to use. Great swimming and fishing! Hope to return!
