We gathered family from 3 cities in this lovely, quiet farm house with ocean views. We could hike and kayak (with rental) from the property. And star gaze! It was wonderful! Groceries and restaurants and everything is about a 20-30 minute drive, but that's why it's quiet and the air is clean and you can see the stars!

We loved our vacation at Maine Stay! Our family made memories that will last a lifetime. The historic home is so special, and on a beautiful piece of property with breathtaking views. It is very well equipped and had everything we needed or wanted. We loved hiking the property and exploring both sides - our 3 and 5 year old, as well as their grandparents, were able to make it out to the far side which was a highlight of our trip. We viewed incredible sunrises, kayaked, enjoyed lobster dinners, and sat around the campfire. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us!

We loved the house and property! Beautiful view from the porch. We had adequate room for the family and the grandchildren loved exploring the paths and beach. We wished we had more sunny than cloudy days but the Maine weather did not deter us. Our hosts were super and very responsive and we were especially appreciative of Jenni and Bill’s surprise ride!!!

A great place for our family of 7 adults and two babies to gather, relax, and take day trips to both Acadia and Deer Isle.

Pure beauty and relaxation
This property is amazing. The home itself is beautiful the accommodations were wonderful the size of the home made it so that we weren’t all on top of each other because, there was just so much room. The outdoors we set up games in the front yard overlooking the beautiful waterfront it was an amazing fabulous view in the day and night. We use the outdoor fire pit had marshmallows got warm at the fire. We enjoyed also sitting in the screened in porch one night, it was a little buggy nothing out of the ordinary but that was beautiful with a wonderful swing and very comfortable furniture to sit on while we were in the screen in porch. We all enjoyed it so very much. The front yard was just a wonderful place for the family together and play corn hole and badminton and so many other out door sports. One beautiful day we went to the beach in front of the Property with the kids and the kids saw so many starfish. We were all amazed, none of us had ever seen them in the water before. They were everywhere when we went down to the beachfront which is a pretty good walk, but still it was very beautiful to walk through the fields to get there. We also walked to the pond behind the house and it was so nice to enjoy the walk through beautiful nature paths to get there. We enjoyed every day with much joy of family. Beautiful!! Thank you so much for the use of your wonderful home. The Benton’s

Fun Farmhouse
We enjoyed our stay, plenty of room indoors and out to spread out' the screened porch was a popular spot. If you get up early enough you will see wildlife on the property. Everything was clean and worked as it should. Keep in mind the house is an old farmhouse so don't expect perfection. We really enjoyed it and would highly recommend especially if you enjoy peace and quite. The one thing I would ask the owners to do is install a larger TV.

Great location, house not so much
We loved sitting on the front porch, looking at the wonderful view and lounging in front of the fireplace at night. It's also convenient for visiting Blue Hill and Bar Harbor, and Perry's up the road is a huge plus -- best lobster ever. But the photos/reviews did not prepare us for the "used" condition of the interior. Yes, there are lots of pots and plates and games and books, etc., but also peeling wallpaper everywhere, stained showers, warped doors and an overall impression that not much has been done inside for a very long time. A big family group with kids and dogs might not care about that because of the roominess and beach access, but we (older folks) felt it wouldn't feel clean and comfortable no matter how much you worked at it, just too beat up. This old house has seen a lot of summer living, not enough reno (for us).

Summary of our stay
This property had some good features and some not so good ones:
It was an attractive older house with plenty of land around it, a very quiet neighborhood, with an accessible waterfront, and relatively close proximity (45miles by car) to Acadia National Park. The negatives about the property were: the state of finishes inside--Wall and trim paint and wallpaper was aging and needing upgrading. A deep cleaning was also needed--dirt in corners, stains on counters, etc. were noticed. Also, we rented the house so as to be close to water, but the property's waterfront was a much longer walk away than the listing implied. The closest restaurant was about 3 miles away--no problem, but the next closest one was probably 10 miles away.

Lovely balance
If you are looking for a quiet, secluded property with plenty of easy access to outdoor activities but still a manageable drive (around 1 hour) to Acadia and bigger cities, this is the place. It is great for young kids because the house is spacious and there are areas to play in the yard and large porch, you can do an easy walk to the "front shore" or wildflower meadow, or a more adventurous hike to the "back shore." We rented kayaks and paddle boards for the week and enjoyed them (though the water was often a bit choppy for the paddle boards). We drove to Acadia to hike on two occasions (including 1/2 day in Bar Harbor), went to Blue Hill for dinner and shopping once, and otherwise mostly remained at the house and were never bored. Laura, the host, was very responsive to any questions, gave me detailed recommendations when requested, and even helped to inform neighbors when we had a missing dog. We will definitely be coming back!

first of the season
We had a wonderful time! Lots of information(albeit out of date), games, toys, movies VCR!!!!, fireplace huge washer and dryer and a great meadow out front. The walk to the beach was boggie (we had to purchase boots next toRemy?(?))Towels and sheets s were clean and new (?!) we all noticed upon leaving that the mattress covers were in need of a wash as were the blankets.
I found the place to be welcoming and ready for our family. It was great that it wasn't overly fancy and had all that we needed. I will say that perhaps we were the first of the renters this year and an after winter cleaning was in order. There was a dead mouse under the king bed, and the internet was not yet connected for the summer and a new router was required. I had said several times that 3 of my children needed to work during our vacation. A bit more attention to these issues would have been in order. all the internet issues were quickly resolved and I appreciate that. Thank you for my R&R-I totally needed i!.

Atmospheric farmhouse, lovely area
Our group of 9 seniors had a fine time at Maine Stay. Despite a few hitches, the spacious, well-equipped farmhouse was comfortable and welcoming, and our high spirits could not be dampened even by a few days of rain and fog. The peninsula is well off the tourist track and we enjoyed peace and privacy when not out taking advantage of area trails and coastal walks. The Maine coast dressed in fall colors provided a glorious respite, and we enjoyed visits to Deer Isle and Stonington, Blue Hill, Castine, Cape Rosier and MDI. Laura and Jenni were quickly responsive to our needs, and their recommendations for Perry's Lobster and Pugnutz were spot on. A delightful getaway at a lovely spot, much enjoyed by all.

Old Cottage with the Basics
Our first family vacation since 2013 with 8 adults & 2 small kids (5 and almost 2). The property owner was very responsive to all our needs and requests up to and during our stay. At one point we lost power due to a dump truck taking out a telephone pole and she was almost immediate finding out what happened, sending the neighbors over with flashlight/candle, and expected return to power. The house was perfectly set up for the kids and the number of bathrooms/space. Plenty of room to cook/grill dinner. My favorite was having coffee on the porch together in the morning watching the sun come up.

Perfect Summer home for a family
Laura’s property offers all you can expect from a country side cottage and it’s history. Grounds around the house are wonderful offering access to two beaches with beautiful trails to reach them and plenty of space to play games with kids. We would love to come back sometime in the future. Thank you Laura

Beautiful setting
We had a wonderful family vacation. The home is comfortable, spacious and laid out perfectly. We felt welcomed and right at home from the time we arrived until our departure. Owner is very responsive and took care of any questions we had. The location is fantastic, so peaceful, private and quiet. We kayaked along the beautiful coastline , saw eagles, seals, osprey - just magnificent. Went over to Acadia one day for biking on the Carriage Roads. This is a great place for a true coastal Maine experience. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

The property hosts were excellent and extremely responsive for any needs we had. We had a great time. Only word of caution is the hike to
The other beach behind the house is not great for little kids and slightly longer than we were expecting. The house has everything you need and more including a high chair and pack and
Play along with fans for each room. We rented kayaks for the week and did a lot of biking, hiking and swimming!

Excellent stay!
The location is so perfect if you are looking for a remote Maine getaway in a beautiful and relaxing place. Hard to beat the views and the large/comfortable layout of the house and property. Perfect for biking, (rentals can be delivered from Blue Hill), running, walking, and hanging out on the beach near the property. A ton of space for cooking and hanging out outside. Enough space for our family of five to be very comfortably and enjoyably for a week, even with some of us working remotely (note the internet also works well). We definitely hope to come back!

Porch Heaven
Walking into Maine Stay is like visiting friends who have just slipped out for a moment. You can almost hear the laughter of the family playing in the yard and sharing a meal at the porch table. The beds were firm, the kitchen complete, the view ever beckoning us to the porch. We loved it!

Picturesque Bay View
The property was easy to find and has a breathtaking view of the Bay. Plenty of room for our two families, an extra fridge outside for drinks, pots to cook lobster and steamers, quiet and friendly neighborhood, and nice large property outside. We enjoyed using the fire pit one night. We walked the path through the woods to the other bay. It’s not as nice of a spot to swim as in front of the property as it’s very rocky. Beware of porcupines at dusk or night if you have pets. We saw them frequently. Only gripe was the outdated bathrooms and it wasn’t as clean as I’d prefer but we still had a wonderful week. Lots to do in the area. Must buy seafood or eat in at Perry’s, Union River Lobster Pot, and enjoy gelato at Pugnuts. Amazing!

Stepping back in time with a modern twist
Just spent a week at Maine stay with our kids and grandkids and it was well worth the trip from Pa.This was our third vacation in Maine and no question it was the best. Both Laura and Jenni answered all of our questions and made sure we had a pleasant stay. The farmhouse was in excellent shape and loaded with antiques that gave you the feeling you had stepped back in time but with satellite tv,high speed internet and a fully stocked kitchen with two refrigerators. When you have a large group this comes in handy. The location is secluded and the view is second to none.Blueberry picking is available steps from the house. It takes about a half hour to get to Ellsworth where Home depot and Wall Mart are along with every fast food place you may want.Lots of restaurants with reasonable prices in town and the surrounding area. Less than an hour to Acadia and Bar Harbor.Bring bug spray as the mosquitos arrive after sunset if you plan on being outdoors but no worse than our own backyard during the summer.
Our family enjoyed everything about our stay there and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great vacation desination.

Beautiful!
The view from the front porch is soul-restoring! The kids loved the big yard and the nearby beach with all snail shells. The farmhouse is a bit rustic, but has all the amenities- dishwasher, laundry facilitiles, well equiped kitchen- and the antique furntiure is lovely. Beds comfortable, comfy linens and towels, and almost always a cool breeze from the bay so we didn't miss a/c. Very homey and we all felt so comfortable.

Maine Stay is a quiet country house on acreage
Our family shared a pleasant week in this well-appointed country home. The owner and manager have been very responsive and helpful throughout our entire booking, staying, and follow-up process--great customer service. There are many activities in the area--Acadia National Park, small towns to visit, the beautiful coastline to explore by kayak or walk along the rocky beach. The house is filled with books and games and the front porch invites people to sit and enjoy that type of restful day.

Spacious and secluded
What we loved:
The wrap around porch and screened in porch were wonderful. We enjoyed the views in the mornings and cocktails in the dark, quiet of the evenings all week long.
The house is secluded and huge making it very comfortable for two families.
The house was unique and interesting.
Newer appliances and grill were convenient and appreciated.
Temps never got to 80 during our stay and open windows with fans in each bedroom kept it plenty cool inside over night.
Owner provides nearly everything you could possibly need - towels, linens, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, beach chairs, toys, bug spray and bug repellent candles (though we felt Maine was incredibly bug free compared to New York), games, books and puzzles. The kitchen is well stocked and even has some odds and ends like sugar, condiments, tea and coffee.
We ate at Perry's twice, went to Acadia twice (construction on the way makes it take about an hour to get there), went on Lulu's lobster boat tour out of Bar Harbor (highly enjoyable) and visited Fort Knox. We didn't get to Pugnuts ice cream until our last night but wished we'd been there earlier because it was delicious.
What you need to know:
There is access to two private rocky beaches from this property. The one at the front of the property is across the road and approximately 1/2 a mile away down a zig zagging path and some stairs. We rented kayaks from The Activity Shop and they were delivered to a property across the street for launching. The kids enjoyed gathering pretty rocks and hunting for crabs but we did also spot jellyfish so caution was needed. The second beach is .7 miles from the barn at the side of the house. The path to this beach is quite overgrown and we made it in 17 minutes when going at a good clip or 20 minutes when taking it easy. It would not be convenient to carry much to this beach. At the end of August we were told the water had reached max temp which for Maine was a whopping 62 degrees so only the brave went in over their heads.
The house is almost at the tip of a peninsula and it takes 15 minutes to get to the main road, so there is virtually nothing you can get to short of a 30 minute drive, except Perry's Lobster Shack and Pugnuts Ice Cream.
This is a farmhouse built in the 1920s and so there are some maintenance issues. We weren't 100% thrilled with the cleanliness or unpleasant odors from it being an older beachside property but we had a wonderful time and would recommend it.

The perfect place for the perfect event.
Sitting on the porch with our family (and brand new daughter in law) all looking out to the horizon at Acadia, I could not be happier. Maine Stay is comfortable, beautifully charming, clean, terrifically maintained and appointed. Laura, the hostess, was extraordinarily accommodating - thank you for being supportive of us hosting the wedding and reception of our son & daughter in law. All the flowers on the grounds added to the beauty. And if that wasn't enough, the timing was blessed to the point of being able to pick over five pounds of blueberries right on the grounds! Two pies, two tarts, a couple dozen muffins and many handfulls of blueberries later, we counted ourselves as the luckiest cheeseheads to ever wander into Maine. We are so grateful for our week. Thank you.

We vacationed here with our three kids, ages 5, 8, and 12 and they all had a blast. There was so much to do on Newbury Neck between kayaking, exploring, biking, blueberry picking and swimming that we only made it over to Acadia once. The kids were especially surprised and delighted by the inflatable water slide that previous guests had left. I would highly recommend this for families who love to be active and outdoors. I would suggest stocking up on groceries beforehand, because it takes a while getting on and off the peninsula and driving to the store. Jenni was very gracious and very helpful. We are hoping to come back again!

Our large family was drawn to The Maine Stay, looking for a week of peace and quiet, and this property delivered. The early 1900s farm house sits on 70 acres of open fields, meadows, lawn areas and dense woods with plenty of trails between the oceanfront found on both sides of the property. The house itself is spacious and the wrap around porch, along with a screened in area, was used often for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails and evening cocktails. The views are tranquil and attractive. The nearby firepit was also a nice place to relax after a full day. The beds in the 5 bedrooms are clean & comfortable. Preparing meals was easy in the up to date kitchen and new gas grill on the porch. The internet was steady and reliable.
We took two, leisurely paced, twenty minute hikes to the shore on the backside. One of them was an hour before sunset and we enjoyed spotting loons and seals as well as the beautiful sunset over Blue Hill. We enjoyed the beach in the front of the property for swimming, beach combing and a spot to launch our kayaks. There was plenty to see in the waters right off the property, but we also took a one hour (one way) paddle to the town beach and nearby osprey nest at the radio tower. Another great kayak trip was around the peninsula to Jed's Island where we saw a huge bald eagle and a group of about 50 curious seals.
Trips to Bar Harbor & Acadia Ntl. Park were easy, about an hour, and always worth a visit. We also enjoyed the local offerings, like PugNutz Ice Cream Shop and Perry's Lobster Shack. We brought our energetic dog who seemed to enjoy the area as much as we did. There was a great kennel, Creature Quarters, 20 minutes from the house to for a day of doggy daycare.
Just as importantly, our hosts, Laura & Jenni, were very friendly, helpful and quick with a response to our questions and concerns. From reserving the property, to check in and check out, things ran smoothly and seamlessly. Thank You!

If you're looking for spectacular vistas, this property and has a gorgeous view of the water with Mt. Desert Island in the distance! The house is old but clean and has most of the amenities you would expect, including a well-stocked kitchen. The downstairs bathroom is the only room that seemed to be in need of a really good scrub.
We spent most of our time outside of the house playing in the yard, sitting on the front porch, and exploring the shore and surrounding woods. My kids delighted in picking blueberries from the property in mid-to-late July. Acadia National Park, Perry's Lobster Shack, and nearby Ellsworth were favorite driving destinations. This is really a great place to "Get away from it all" and it was hard to leave, especially after many days of great weather. We'd love to come back again!

Charming classic house with room for a big family and abundant outdoor space. Worth the drive away from the bustle, this nicely stocked house had lots of beds and common areas, but we likely the screened-in porch and paths to the water. It was a calm place to relax with access to the bay for kayaking and a little splashing in the water (albeit a little early in the season for the water to warm up when we went). While a little further from Bar Harbor than we'd anticipated, it wasn't a bad hop into the nearby towns for provisions and some nice restaurants.
10.0 / 10.0
Our stay at Maine Stay was wonderful. I think the seaside porch was occupied by at least one person during every daylight hour, drinking in the view and the sounds. We had a lovely paddle from the beach around a nearby island, sharing the experience with a loon and some porpoises. The garden was a delight, and the lawn is perfect for bocce. We loved the walk through the woods to the beach on the far side.
We ate every meal at the table on the side porch, enjoying the view and the Maine air. The kitchen is incredibly well-furnished with everything a cook could need. The microwave died while we were there, and the property manager provided amazing service, coming over with a new microwave the next day! We hope to come again!
