About this cottage rental
A Little Slice of Heaven in Surry, Maine with views of Union River Bay, Cadillac Mountain and Acadia National Park. Bayport Cottage is located on Newbury Neck peninsula with panoramic ocean views all the way to Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain. We're privately located in a quiet setting on protected Union River Bay. Perfect for lazing around right on water's edge. We're off the beaten path but close to everywhere you'll want to visit. Conveniently located near Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill and Ellsworth, which translates into sightseeing attractions, outdoor activities, shops, restaurants and much more.
Bayport Cottage is furnished in an upscale manner with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, including a king-size master suite on the first floor. Bayport features an open-style living plan with a cathedral ceiling, a beautifully finished lower level, and a large oceanside deck. For a more luxurious experience, we've newly remodeled both bathrooms and the kitchen all featuring granite countertops. We have newly refurnished the main level living and dining rooms. We now have Fiber Optics WiFi—one of the only cottages on Newbury Neck with high-speed internet. We provide all the comforts of home, but with a great view from every room.
Come experience it for yourself. Enjoy everything we have to offer. Come enjoy all the sights and sounds of the rocky coast of Maine!
We strive to provide you with the perfect vacation experience.
The Rock: Everyone who stays at Bayport knows about 'The Rock'. So what's the rock, you ask. It's a huge flat rock that appears at low tide. You'll want to carry out a beach chair so you can sit on what seems to be your own private island and bask in the fresh ocean breezes. It’s really that good.
Perry's Lobster Shack: Perry Long's Lobster Shack is right on Newbury Neck where you can eat fresh lobster on Perry's pier out over the ocean. The setting is great and the lobsters are even better. Wait for your lobster to cook with a glass of wine while Perry steams 'em up for you. You can take them home or enjoy them right there. It's the best lobster roll we've found. And, believe me, we've tried a lot of them.
Best Public Beach: Ssshh! Don't tell anyone, but one of the best local beaches is right here on Newbury Neck, just up the road from the Cottage--a pebble beach with a grand view of the mountains.

Perfect in every way. Privacy, waterfront, cleanliness, amenities, location, and communication. By far the nicest cottage we’ve rented in the 25 years of coming to Maine. The grounds alone are enough to keep everyone in your party satisfied. We loved it!

Absolutely heaven on earth. We have loved Surry for 2 decades and the gorgeous Bayport seaside Cottage was a dream. Sleeping with sea breezes, coffee with Eagles, close to Bar Harbor, Surry Landing, Ellsworth and more. Best dining experiences, loads of activites under an hour but far enough away to revel in peace and quiet!!
Total Rejuvination!!

We arrived in the middle of a tropical storm, and were so impressed that property manager was able to get the house ready for us - even fresh flowers. The house is so comfortable and cozy. Appointed with everything you might need. It was a perfect getaway for me and my husband. We spent the week hiking, biking, eating lobster and just sitting on the deck gazing at the water, seals (otters?), ducks and egrets. It’s a quiet spot. House is situated so that you don’t see neighbors. Beautiful sunrises. Pure tranquility.

This is such a nice, comfy, and inviting place to stay. Nestled in the trees with a great view of the water, the house could not have been any better. We enjoyed our week and would highly recommend this for your home away from home!

Bayport was iconic! What a glorious place. Beautiful inside and especially out!! Peaceful retreat with close proximity to everything relevant in and around Acadia!
The owner, Bill, and manager, Coleene were extremely responsive and helpful! They went above amd beyond for us with our travel "complications". Their kindness was a blessing and made the place all the more special.

We had a wonderful stay. The property was beautiful and about 45 minutes from Acadia National Park. We had an issue with the water pressure but the owner had someone over in about 20 minutes and they fixed the problem. We also didn't have internet most of the time. We think because the router is in a closed off area of the basement. The owner offered to see what he could do to fix the problem but we were there to see Maine so it didn't bother us that we didn't have internet. The owner was also awesome about calling her regulars and finding out when they were coming and offered us the time that was left. We had a hard time finding a place to rent and were very thankful she went out of her way. We would definitely stay again. Loved the rock and we had fun watching how fast the tide came in. It was very comfortable!

The most beautiful house and location we have ever been too. Nothing more to say. Will definitely be back.

My family stayed at Bayport for two glorious weeks. The location is fantastic, well within easy driving to Acadia and Blue Hill, Brooklin, Deer Isle, etc. The small Surry store, ice cream shop (Pugnuts), and Perry's lobster shack nearby can make the prospect of just staying home for the day, or for several days, look pretty good.
Cozy, airy, and welcoming, the home is well furnished, comfortable, immaculately clean, and meticulously maintained. Bayport Cottage is thoroughly, generously, and thoughtfully stocked with soaps, towels, kitchen needs, and most else one might need to move right in and begin your vacation. We have stayed at some great VRBO properties but the superior attention to detail and appreciation of quality in Bayport, inside and outside the home, hasn’t been matched and cannot be overstated. This is one of the nicest and most well appointed properties in the area, period. Coleene and the caretaking team at Bayport take great care in expertly managing and maintaining the property and it shows big time.
Incredible views, lovely lawn spaces under dappled shade for the kids to play, a lovely tidal beach, sublime wooded seclusion, gorgeous sunrises… just wow.
My family of 4 could not have been happier. We will be back again and again.

Cottage and property were as shown on site. We had everything we needed and more. Coleene made everything easy from check in to check out. She also had a wonderful welcome basket and fresh flowers for our arrival. We had a great time and hope to come back again!

My husband and our teen and 20+ children loved this property. Easy drive to a lot of great places. We have stayed at a lot of vacation rentals and this was the cleanest, best organized and most well maintained property of them all.

The cottage is even better than the photos on VRBO show. The house was very clean and had everything we needed and more for the week. We showed up with clothes and food and were all set for our vacation. We absolutely fell in love with the cottage.

Lovely home; nicely appointed; great, responsive owners. We loved our time here so much, we were lucky enough to extend it a few extra days. The street is quiet, so we were able to ride our bikes and walk on it, and the house was set well off the street, near the water, for privacy. Kitchen had lots of counter space, good pots & pans and knives, small appliances, spices. Nice fluffy towels and good sheets, plenty of firewood. We were there Thanksgiving week, and were lucky with the temperatures being so mild, for Maine in November.
Thank you Mary Anne, for sharing your home with us.

Our one-week stay in Bayport Cottage for the last full week in October far exceeded our expectations!
Never have we stayed in a more welcoming or well-appointed property. We arrived late on our first day to find lights on the the welcome mat out. We found every amenity you could imagine provided.
The cottage is laid out in a wonderful fashion-perfect for two families. There is one master bedroom and bath on the main floor and two bedrooms and bath on the second floor. On the main floor you also find the kitchen, living and dining room, and deck, but there is a whole other living room and dining room and deck on the lower level. Because of this, two families could easily recreate in separate spaces without bothering each other.
Of course, the best part of the cottage is the fantastic view and easy walk to the water from the lower deck. Each morning we spotted our loon family swimming out in front of the cottage as the fog was burned off by the warming sun.
The location of the cottage in Surry was perfect-just a 30 minute drive to the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor or hikes in Acadia National Park. The cottage was easily accessible to markets in Ellsworth and we were very surprised as to how charming Ellsworth is for shopping or dining.
We also found that we had no difficulty reaching the property manager Coleene who was very responsive and accommodating.
We can't wait to return to beautiful Bayport Cottage.

What a wonderful time we had here at Bayport Cottage! From the awe-inducing sunrises to the thoughtful touches around the home, our stay here was the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever had. Our neighbors — the bald eagles, ospreys, sea stars, cormorants, deer, and wild turkeys — greeted us daily and made sure we were well-entertained. The hosts are thoughtful and provide detailed instructions for the tv, etc. and a welcome basket filled with local delights. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well-equipped, and each bedroom provided a glorious view to the bay. You’ll love it! We sure did!

Can’t say enough good about Bayport Cottage. Everything was as described. We totally enjoyed ourselves while we were here. If we ever plan on coming to this area again this would be our first choice. Thanks for making our vacation one to remember!

My family of six from Minnesota, grandmother, grandfather, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren ages six and two, stayed at Bayport Cottage for a week in August. Everyone loved it. The cottage was charming and elegantly furnished. The beach was a place of discovery for the grandchildren. Days started and ended with them exploring tide pools and climbing on rocks. The sunrises were stunning but lead me to my main concern. The east facing windows in the two upstairs bedrooms need sun blocking shades or curtains, The morning sun woke the grandchildren up at 5:45 to 6:00 AM and they then woke us up. We had not planned on starting our vacation mornings so early.
We give Bayport Cottage our highest recommendation and would definitely stay here again.

This was our first time at Bayport cottage the place is very beautiful from the long private driveway to the house to the back yard view of Union Bay. The house is very nicely decorated. Awesome kitchen equipped with everything even nice pots and pans. Beautiful views from every window. King size bed and queen are very comfortable. We ate at Perry's two times and several times we had ice cream at pugnuts. The best ice cream!! Yummy! I was sad to leave such a beautiful place, but we will be back! 🤗

If you could sum up what our family likes in a vacation home it is this home. The pictures don’t do it justice. It’s pretty much perfect. The resident eagles agree I’m sure!

I spent hours and days hunting for the best place to stay to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia Nat'l Park, and Bayport Cottage fit all the requirements.
Pros: This cottage is close enough to Bar harbor and Acadia without being in the middle of traffic and crowds. We were surprised at how crowded Bar Harbor was in May. We went to Acadia twice and BH once. Easy driving.
Ellsworth has the best restaurants! We ate out more than we thought we would and never cooked anything at the house other than breakfast.
The setting is absolutely amazing with beautiful landscaping! Watching the tides change and waiting for the loons to show up every day.... I could just sit and stare at that water for hours.
We had one smallish problem and the manager called the owner who then called me and he got everything taken care of quickly.
Cons: This is trivial, but there is too much "stuff" all over. Every shelf, table top, dresser, etc. is covered with knickknacks and decor, leaving no place to put your own things. We moved things around, stored some inside drawers and cupboards and probably didn't put things back correctly.
The bedrooms need blackout curtains. There is no need for privacy, but not everyone wants the sun in their face at 5AM. Put black out curtains on spring rods and guests can decide to take them down or leave them up. I used clothes pins to hang blankets from the valances...
The twin beds need foam toppers. Those mattresses are way too hard even for kids, and for an adult it was a back breaker. We found a large piece of foam in the closet and made it work even though it was totally the wrong size.
More larger coffee mugs would have been nice-- and on a lower shelf. Not all of us can reach that top shelf. Plus a plate cover in the microwave.
This was a bucket list trip and we may not ever make it to Maine from Ohio again, but if we should decide to go that far again, we would definitely consider staying at Bayport Cottage. There were several books on the upstairs shelves didn't have time to read! Plus I want to check on Larry and Lulu, the loons….

The moment we drove down the driveway and saw the ocean appear on the other side of the house through the windows and smelled the air I was in love. The house is so cozy and clean, the owners left flowers, champagne, syrup, sauce and an incredible blueberry jam when we arrived. The views from the bay are amazing and at low tide we had clams, oysters, crabs, & mussels to forage. Waking up every morning with my coffee on that deck, reading on the hammock was a dream. Easy ride to Acadia, and loved Blue Hill, the town neat by. We will definitely return in the future! Thanks for making our honeymoon incredible!

It was such a wonderful experience to stay at Bayport! The home and grounds are impeccably maintained, and the views are breathtaking. We really enjoyed our time here, and hope to return one day. Thank you so much for this very special week.

From the moment we drove up to the house, we knew Bayport Cottage was a special place. The colorful gardens, window-boxes, and bouquets of flowers were a beautiful sight. A stroll down to the shore was full of the scent of the sea. The early morning birdsong sounded like a symphony. The cool mist on our faces alternated with warm sunshine on our shoulders. And the thoughtful welcome basket was filled with taste of Maine. We had a lovely week, and we understand why guests return to Bayport again and again!

We had an amazing time staying at Bayport Cottage again this year. The house and grounds were immaculate. This is a true piece of paradise.
If you are planning a vacation in the Acadia area, this is the place to book. Mary Anne and Bill are amazing hosts and do everything possible to make your stay the best.

Everything about this place has been considered for peace and comfort. Meticulous maintenance inside and out. Beautiful decor, comfortable beds and linens. Awesome kitchen with all you need if you want to cook.
The owners and maintenance staff are so kind and accommodating. A welcome basket, fresh flowers, all kinds maps and info are at your fingertips.
We came for Acadia but relaxed at the house and really relaxed and recharged there.
The owners have succeeded in creating the place for you to have the experience you desire. That is thoughtful.

We had a wonderful 8-night stay at Bayport Cottage for Mother’s Day. As soon as we pulled up, we knew we picked the right place. We were given the option of a contactless check-in, but opted for in-person. One of the owners, Bill, walked us through the house, explaining everything we needed to know. The house was sparkling clean, not one ounce of dust anywhere. Every room was beautifully decorated, with attention to every single detail. I have never seen a rental home so well stocked. The kitchen had every pot, pan, utensil, plate, glass you could need and it didn’t stop there. The spice cabinet was jam packed with spices, and they even had olive oil, coffee, tea, etc., as well as parchment paper, aluminum foil, Ziploc bags, etc. You name it, they had it. They provided a generous welcome basket, with champagne, homemade maple syrup (which was delicious) and other goodies we enjoyed. We spent half of our days just relaxing at the house, directly on the water with its own private beach. No one in sight. We combed the beach daily, which has amazing views of the mountains. The yard is well cared for and landscaped well with beautiful flowers everywhere. We spent some time on the hammock and a swing by the water. Every room in the house (except bathrooms) has a gorgeous view of the water. The sunrises were AMAZING. The first morning there, we woke to a house that was bright, fire red, inside from the vibrant sunrise outside. Never saw anything like it before. The sunrises were always beautiful but never exactly the same. On the property, we saw loons, crows, a pileated woodpecker and an American Bald Eagle - right in our backyard.
We took many trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The drive is not bad at all. Less than a half hour and easy to navigate. A few days in, we no longer needed Navigation. We biked Acadia (23 miles), tons of rolling hills; we drove and hiked Acadia and Cadillac Mountain - and went to the summit of the mountain; and we took a sightseeing cruise as well. We also had great dining experiences. I recommend The Chart House in Bar Harbor, where we dined outside on the water next to a beautiful rainbow.
The owners of the property, Mary Ann and Bill, could not have been nicer and more accommodating. Bill brought us the newspaper, offered to pick up food in town for us, and checked in on us.
The house was beautiful, the experience was great. If you are visiting the area, this is where you want to stay.

My husband and I had a wonderful time. We appreciated the private feel of the property but easy access to Ellsworth. Views are amazing of the bay. The cottage is super cute and comfortable. Bill and Mary Anne are welcoming thoughtful hosts. Excellent proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia. We will definitely be back!

We spent a wonderful week at Bayport Cottage in early November. Gale force winds made for crashing waves along the shore drive in Acadia National Park and then an early snowfall greeted us one morning. We enjoyed a warm fire in the wood stove each evening and watched a full moon rise over the bay. Bayport Cottage is absolutely perfect! Everything we needed was there, including a welcome basket full of local goodies. The view from the deck reveals both the well maintained grounds and the waters of Union River Bay and the ever changing coastline is a great place to explore as the tides rise and fall. The cottage is convenient to all of the area attractions but secluded from all of the noise and traffic of the busy areas. We would love to return for a much longer stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Bayport Cottage, we explored the area hiking in Acadia exploring Deer isle and returning every evening to sit by the water relaxing with a glass of wine. It was the reprieve that we needed during these difficult times.

What a great house and location. We loved our stay and can’t wait to book another trip... but this time for two weeks! Thanks again for your hospitality.

This was our favorite VRBO and we have been to at least a dozen. The only negative about this location was that it was about a half hour from Bar Harnor and Acadia Park sites. We drove in each day and enjoyed the house in the evenings. If we had a closer location then we coukd have gone back for some nice sunsets. But any rental closer could never be so nice and there is a truly amazing sunrise right out the triple sets of sliding glass doors that someone in our group enjoyed every morning.

Bayport Cottage is a real gem. It is beautifully situated right on the bay so that you wake up and go to sleep looking at the beautiful Maine shoreline. The cottage itself is exactly as advertised and is beautiful and carefully maintained, with a well-stocked kitchen and comfortable living areas. It was super comfortable for a group of 6 (4 adults + 2 kids). The yard is exquisite and well-tended and helps to create a real sense of natural beauty that feels seamless next to the water. Drinking coffee and reading a book in the morning sitting next to the water was a real treat and a lovely way to start each day. In terms of location, Surry is perfectly positioned to explore Acadia as well as Deer Isle and other amazing parts of Down East Maine. We spent our days kayaking, found amazing 5-star hikes (that were family friendly), explored the quaint little towns, and just rested and relaxed at the cottage. Mary Anne & Bill were kind and gracious hosts and checked in to ensure we had everything we need, even doing some research for us on where to find sailing opportunities! We will definitely be back - our vacation at Bayport Cottage was definitely a highlight amongst our family vacations!
