About this cabin rental
The Lake Superior Barn is a 4,250 sq. foot home with 4 bathrooms and accommodations to easily sleep 20 people in the 6 bedrooms and 15 beds…. lakesuperiorbarn.com. (see more here.)
It is designed to accommodate multiple families with open bathrooms and individual toilets and showers. The home is just 30 minutes east of Duluth on the sandy south shore of Lake Superior.
Lake Superior Barn rests on 320 acres of remote wilderness and a sandy beach. The home sits on the south shore of Lake Superior, staring across the lake to the North Shore cities of Duluth and Two Harbors whose lights twinkle in the distance at night. The property is completely surrounded by the Brule River State Forest so there is not another home on the Lake Superior shoreline for miles… Enjoy the secluded sandy beach or walk it like an ocean looking for beach-glass. Listen to the waves crash or swim in the cleanest of all the Great Lakes where the temperature can reach 60 or 70 degrees in the shallow, sandy bottom water. Warm up to a driftwood fire or roast s'mores on the waterfront.
Once back to the house, wash the sand off your feet in the outside shower while taking in the 180 degree view of Lake Superior. Enjoy the 1600 sq foot reclaimed deck just outside the beautiful kitchen and a pantry with all the extra ingredients and spices you may have forgotten. Build a fire with firewood provided in the stone fireplace or have a fire on the bluff watching the sun set or lay in a bean bag and pick a book to read from the stocked bookshelves in the loft. Lake Superior Barn has 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3 showers built from the reclaimed lumber, steel and iron nails of 7 turn of the century Minnesota barns. The game room has radiant concrete heat to warm your toes as you play ping pong, shuffle board or lounge on the couch to watch a movie or TV.... Star Link Wi-Fi is provided.
The Lake Superior Barn is a unique and rustic experience... yet there is a Roku TV and Wi-Fi to stream movies or sports, and also plenty of cards, books and boardgames!
The Lake Superior Barn sits on 320 private acres of forest, wander deer trails or swim in Haukkula Creek that flows the length of the property. Pick raspberries and wild strawberries in the summer or snowshoe the woods and trails in the winter… either way, you will never encounter another person on the private and secluded land. End the day by building a fire while overlooking Lake Superior and watch the summer sun set over the hills of Duluth.
Close to areas like the Duluth, the Apostle Islands, Bayfield and the scenic South Shore of Lake Superior... or canoe the Brule River... the Lake Superior Barn is a remote getaway from a hectic life.

Great time as always!

We were a group of 1O flying in to the area from the East Coast with 2 driving in from Salt Lake City, all cousins from ages 15-65. We coined ourselves “Cousins on the Loose.” The Barn was perfect for our group. We could seek out privacy or choose to be together. The decor and aesthetic was so welcoming. The yard and landscape was great for group wiffle ball baseball games, cornhole, sitting by the fire with the brilliant sunset in the background, and the access to Lake Superior made for many fun days on our paddle boards, canoe, and floaties. The caretaker was extremely responsive to any questions we had or guidance needed. The owners were just as responsive leading up to and after our stay. We hope to enjoy the barn again in the near future!

Lovely place to enjoy nature and spend time with family, cooking, playing, and sauna together.

The property and beach are one of a kind. The barn easily housed our group of 4 adults and 9 kids (aged 10 months to 7 years old). We will come back.

We had a fantastic stay at the Lake Superior Barn House! We traveld with friends, plenty of space, loved the sauna, used the fire pit every night. Took a day trip into Duluth one day, out to Bayfield and Madeline Island another. Highly recommend for a quiet, relaxing getaway!

Had an absolutely fantastic stay with the family. Beautiful house and location. You will not be disappointed.

Our group of 14 had an awesome time at the barn. The weather was beautiful and the lake was full of adventures. We brought our own kayak and paddle board, which were fun additions. No A/C was not a problem, even when daytime temps got into the mid-80s -- the evening breeze was beautiful.

Overall the stay was enjoyable with plenty of room for the kids and grandkids. View of the lake was great - watched a few "BIG" ships come in. Lots of room in the yard for the games we brought: Bags, Ladder Ball, Croquet, even had a small baseball game. All in all it was a good stay. Probably one of the biggest disappointments was the inability to use the beach as the path through the brush was unusable. It was overgrown, not trimmed and dangerous for a few us to try and navigate the steepness of the dirt trail. We had to find an alternate location about 15 minutes away to utilize a public access to a beach. (not what we had planned on) - Not a show stopper, but having a walk-to (private) access to Lake Superior from the house was one of the amenities and highlights we were really looking forward to. A few other details, would include the fact the sewage holding tank had not been pumped prior to us getting there, even though we were told it had been. Upon a visual check it was apparent it was not. There was listed in the amenities of a chest freezer - there was not a chest freezer, but we made due. There was a Blackstone flat top provided which was not listed... nice to have. Would have been nice to know (I would not have brought mine) - minor things like weed control, yard trimming, burned-out outside lights should be addressed. I feel the owner just need to update the listing, the amenities for sure! Once again, overall, it was a nice place to have all the family together!

Our family of 19, ages 10 to 81, stayed at the Lake Superior Barn for our annual vacation to Lake Superior. The barn was perfect for gathering together for games, meals, and conversation. The kitchen was well stocked with all the cookware and utensils needed to prepare meals. There was a variety of games and puzzles to keep us entertained on some rainy days. The view of the lake and the sound of the waves was relaxing. We were able to see some wildlife like a porcupine, a doe and her fawn, and a black bear down by the creek. The beach access was different than the pictures showed and was less accessible than we expected. Overall, this was a great vacation spot for our family.

Loved the property, rooms and gathering spaces. We have stayed twice and the sauna and hot tub were not satisfactory. The hot tub is not chlorinated and the water smells. The sauna stack was not sealed properly and had smoke inside. Contacted manager and he came out and thought he fixed it but did not. After conversation with owners, they did give a small compensation.

The Barn and property are beautiful and have all the amenities you could think of. The host accommodated our every need and then some, which was really appreciated. They and the property caretaker were responsive and very easy to communicate with. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. The barn was perfect for our needs and our stay was enjoyable. We highly recommend this home and host.

This was our 4th girls trip to the barn! Enough space for 20 women to comfortably enjoy. Even all had a real bed to sleep in! Highly recommend this place. The only glitch this year was the hot tub was not filled upon arrival so we could not get it rippin' until the following day.

Lake Superior Barn was the perfect venue for our small wedding ceremony and reception that took place in mid-April. The barn itself was perfect for our needs and the property and views are gorgeous.

Room to roam, read, soak, sauna and cook! We are repeat visitors for a reason. This is a very comfortable space for 20 adult women to connect, cook our own meals and do whatever we would like to do with plenty of space for it all!

We have stayed at the Barn a couple times. It holds a special place in our hearts. It is a fantastic place to enjoy family and friends. We hope to go back again someday.
The space was very clean. The response and help given from the care takers was amazing. All questions were answered immediately. Everyone we have brought to experience the Barn has had a wonderful time and memories will be forever!

20 of us stayed at The Barn and had an amazing three nights! The decor and atmosphere are great, and there are so many options of things to keep you busy - hot tub, sauna, fires, board games, puzzles, shuffleboard, ping pong, the list goes on. The views are gorgeous, and it’s a small walk down to the beach. We’d come back!

We had an amazing weekend with our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren celebrating our 70th birthdays and our great-granddaughter’s 4th birthday! The weather wasn’t the best, but we still enjoyed the lakeshore, hot tub and sauna. And, there was plenty of room inside to spread out and play games, watch a movie, curl up with a good book and, of course, eat. We all came away with wonderful memories and would love to return some day!

What a perfect experience at this beautiful VRBO! We had around 15 in our group and thoroughly enjoyed the space both indoors and outdoors. The property manager and owner were both vey responsive throughout our time if we needed help/input.

We just recently stayed here for 5 nights to celebrate my mother-in-law with our extended family. To say this property was magical is an understatement. With our large group there was plenty of space from kids to adults to enjoy. The views of lake Superior are phenomenal. The property managers were amazing as well answered all our questions and were so helpful. The outdoor hot tub and sauna was a hit for our entire group and the beautiful trail down to the lake was well taken care of. The beach at the lake was also wonderful we did a lot of rock hunting, kids playing in the sand and making clay pots, had a campfire on the beach it couldn't have been a better trip. To say this place was spiritual wasn't doing it justice it will always have a special place in our hearts after our visit and we are already planning a trip back again. Thanks for such a special place to spend with our family!

The building and land are quite impressive. The listing doesn’t do the beach area justice. We spent lots of time down there. The owner and the caretaker were very responsive. We enjoyed our stay.

Our family of 18 enjoyed the property and the cool barn. Campfires and hot tubbing, swimming and searching for glass on the beach. Our 9 grandkids loved every part of the vacation. There was plenty of room for all of us and we especially enjoyed the large deck. We could have used air conditioning on some days. The fly population was our biggest negative. The cabin was well stocked! If you are looking for a quiet rustic experience, this was a great place! We would recommend.

We spend 3 days at this property with friends and family. We had a blast and pictures definitely don’t do justice. This place is absolutely amazing.
Thank you for the great experience.

We had a fabulous time at the barn. Our adult children and our 80 year old parents all gathered together for a week to remember. Between the yard games, board games and just good old fashioned outdoor fun, there was never a lack of something to do. The lack of WiFi and no need to have phones was scary at first for some, but everyone agreed at the end was a true gift! The kitchen was well equipped and the outdoor grill and blackstone were used daily. Kris and her husband took wonderful care of us all. If you come with older individuals there are some tricky stairs but we were able to keep everyone safe with an extra hand here and there. The hot tub takes a bit to heat up but my son in laws enjoyed firing it up each day. We would definitely visit again!

Great place for family and friends. It actually has a summer camp feel to it. Fun little trails all over the property. It’s a fantastic place to take a break from the world and say goodbye to stress.

Went here for a low key bachelor party and got exactly what we wanted out of the place, really secluded property, amazing cabin and had everything we needed. Couldn’t ask for a better spot for a low key weekend. Even had a few of our parents ask for the link because they wanted to bring their friends up there after we showed them all the pictures we took from our weekend.

Perfect place for our extended family to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from UMD. Weather was cold and rainy but we were able to have a great time indoors playing board games, Shuffleboard, ping pong and sitting around the fireplace. The hot tub and sauna were also a hit. Beautiful accommodations, comfy beds and well equipped kitchen. Will definitely find another time to stay at the barn!

This property was everything that we were looking for and more! The views were absolutely beautiful. We had a very intimate wedding ceremony for our son and new daughter. We were exactly at 20 and this charming barn house was perfect! Plenty of room for everyone. The home has everything you need and the game room was a hit along with the sauna and hot tub. Communication was excellent with the owner and caretaker. We plan to stay here again :)

We can't adequately express our satisfaction with this place other than to say we'll be back next year and are already in the process of booking. It was a heavenly space for a large group of friends to wear pajamas all weekend and enjoy each other's company. The kitchen has EVERYTHING we could have ever needed to cook, the space was so comfortable for lounging or playing games, the property was gorgeous. We hiked a lot. The authentic sauna was so therapeutic. We can't wait to come back, again and again.
