This listing is owned by a retired Marriott General Manager. The goal is to provide unique and memorable accommodations that are a step up from what you would find at major hotel chains like Hilton, Hyatt or Marriott.

The basement apartment has a private entrance. As found in many hotels, the living room and bedroom are combined. It features Mid-Century Modern furnishings. A remote controls the whisper quiet air conditioning/heating unit that is separate from the rest of the house. You'll sleep soundly in the queen sized bed that has luxurious Sateen sheets. The kitchenette includes sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and flatware. A private modern bath features an Industrial Chic design. You'll have access to secure fast WiFi. Street parking is available. A unique key code will be issued prior to check in. The apartment is located in the Sunnymede neighborhood, one block south of historic Wayne St. (where Knute Rockne lived!). It's 1.5 miles to downtown, and near many good restaurants and entertainment venues. It's walkable (but a long walk, 2.1 miles, 47 minutes) to Notre Dame but most guests take Uber or drive. It's located in a nice, quiet neighborhood.

What a perfect place to stay! Steve was a fantastic host—communication was effective, the place was spotless, with attention to every detail: pillow choices, info about local places to park for the ND football game (which we used, and it was so simple!), a variety of extra toiletries, clean spaces, all in a picturesque, quiet street. It was wonderful to come back to a quiet, comfortable, roomy space to relax after a busy day. Would definitely stay here again when we come to our next ND game!

Very pleased with the host's, Steve's, basement apartment. Cozy and well equipped for our needs. Excellent attention to detail to ensure our stay was comfortable and worry free. Communication was great, parking was easy, check in process well thought out and easy. We stayed for a ND footbll weekend. Walk from the residence to campus is about 2 miles and another half mile to the stadium. Honestly not a bad walk and plenty of parking about a mile from campus near the Trader Joes if you want to cut it in half. Neighborhood and walk felt safe even at night. Will stay again!!!

Steve’s property is ideally located for a Notre Dame football weekend. The basement apartment was very clean with a unique retro decor. Attention to detail was great. Steve provided coffee, creamers, fresh fruit, various toiletry items, and even hand warmers to keep us warm during the frigid November weather. There was plenty of hot water, a large shower, and comfortable bed with a variety of pillow types to choose from. Overall a great stay. We would definitely stay again when in town for another football game.

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The apartment is roomy and well appointed, with a great mid-century theme. The little extras throughout the apartment were really phenomenal: water and seltzer in the fridge, fresh fruit in the kitchen, the fullest complement of toiletries I’ve seen, and truly all the comforts of home. The entire experience was wonderful, start to finish, and I’d absolutely stay here again. Thanks, Steve!

This property was perfect for my wife and my bucket list trip to Notre Dame University. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable. It was conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood a little over a mile from campus. Steve was quick to respond and even offered things such as a cooler for tailgating. He had stocked the kitchenette and bathroom with snacks, waters, and a wide range of bathroom products you may forget. Perfect for a party of 2. I have travelled all over the world for business and stayed at many hotels and a few VRBOs. This ranks up there with the best as you get what is advertised and more.

Steve's basement apartment is one of the best accommodations I've stayed in. From the private, easily accessible entrance, to the spacious and clean setting, and the updated features, this is an exceptional place to stay for any event in South Bend. No detail was overlooked; abundance of toiletries if you forgot anything, snacks, drinks and fruit stocked in the kitchen, detailed game information and hot tips from a local, made me feel right at home. Not easily walkable to the stadium, but downtown is totally accessible on foot through quiet neighborhoods and only crossing one major street. I would absolutely book this listing in the event I come back to South Bend.

I hesitate to write this review because I want to be able to book this property again for a ND football weekend. A little "off campus" but this was a plus as it was safe, quiet and homey. We loved the decor; very stylish and very retro. Apartment had everything we needed and the owners checked in to see if we were comfortable. All and all a great stay. Go Irish!

We stayed at this cute little 1 bedroom apartment while we were in South Bend to go to the Notre Dame Football Game. Steve was an awesome host and had his place in top condition. There were directions about how to obtain parking for the football game even. Also he is in a great location. Very quiet neighborhood and only about 2 miles from the campus. We highly suggest your stay and when we come back to South Bend we will for sure be looking for this one.

My husband and I booked this basement apartment for the ND vs Navy game last weekend. The apartment was very nice and exceeded our expectations. It was clean and roomy. My husband particularly loved the tiled shower. The place was very close to the ND stadium which was very convenient. Our host Steve was wonderful and always available to answer any of our questions. The place was located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this place for your next stay in South Bend.

Outstanding. I deeply appreciate the meticulous detail and thought that went into the renovation and interior design of this apartment. Comfy bed, great shower. Close to campus. Steve even provides two gallon size zip locks since you can no longer bring a purse to a game. He has the security policy at the stadium laminated for you to read! Just thoughtful. I would absolutely stay here again.

We loved Steve’s place! Quiet, comfortable and incredibly clean. Had so many nice touches - from the toiletries in the bathroom to the drinks in the fridge. We highly recommend this property! This was our 15 year anniversary weekend and we had such a blast staying in this basement apartment! The location to Notre Dame was perfect! We rode scooters to and from campus and also used Uber - we absolutely loved the location! This place was so very clean, uniquely decorated, had all of the amenities and Steve was very welcoming! The neighborhood and house were so cute and we felt very safe! Steve respected our privacy while also giving us several recommendations and ideas and was available with questions, etc. Our stay was even better than expected! We will highly recommend Steve and his basement apartment to friends and family. I hope that we even get to go back again some day! It was a wonderful place!

This was the best experience my wife and I have had with VRBO and it is all because of Steve the owner. He went well out of his way to be hospitable. He picked us up at the airport and showed us around and told us of things to see and do in South Bend. The place was immaculate. This basement apartment is unique, perfectly clean and quaint. Steve is welcoming, prompt in his responses and a talented craftsman and artist. Ask him for a tour of his home, you will be amazed! His attention to every detail did not go unnoticed by us. Our stay was not only comfortable and private, but an experience we will not soon forget. We will most definitely stay here again.
