My wife and I stayed here for a week early December 2020, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would very happily use this cottage again.
One small thing: the shower takes a bit of getting used to, you need to turn it on slowly otherwise we got just luke warm water when turning flow to max straightaway and it doesn't then seem to change when you move hot/cold dial. Also, could do with looking at attachment for holding shower hose up as it doesn't seem compatible with hose so regularly falls off 'hook'.

Super little cottage set in the middle of Ambleside, very well equipped with great kitchen including dishwasher and washing machine. Bed was very comfy and nice bedding, pillows were ready for replacing though.
Lovely large bathroom with bath and separate shower.
Cleanliness was very good, though the coffee jar was full of coffee that had turned to black dust!
Would definately go back there.

Coming out of lockdown, we weren't sure what to expect. We need not have worried, everything we could have wanted was here for us. This is a lovely, well equipped cottage in a perfect location. Easy to find, nice and peaceful, ideal base for walking and we would definitely come back.

We had a great week in this lovely cottage - it's well located, well equipped and the little garden is a treat - if you are lucky enough to get good weather! We would definitely recommend it and we will certainly be back for another stay.

This was our first stay at High White Stones and we certainly weren't disappointed. The facilities at the cottage are excellent, the décor very smart (and to our own taste!) with all that you need provided, including plenty of reading material and large scale OS maps covering most of the Lake District which came in very handy!
We found the location perfect - only 2 mins walk to the town, but still felt secluded and private. There is a more foot traffic than vehicular traffic past the cottage, probably due to the narrowness of the road! We luckily managed to find a parking space every day we were there, just around the corner where the lane widened slightly - but the owners have very thoughtfully provided a parking permit for the main car park if required. It is only 5 mins walk away, and the permit can be used in many other car parks around the area, including Windermere, Grasmere etc (but not in NT car parks unfortunately!) Just remember to check and use it, as I forked out £7 un-necessarily in Grasmere before realising later that evening!
When it comes to dining, there is a guest comments book with plenty of recommendations. Personally we loved the Mexican Tapas 'Es Bar' for evening meals (which didn't seem to get a mention in the book...? Maybe fairly new?) and Sheila's was a good find on our last night. Didn't get chance to try Lucy's on a Plate but looked very good also. For breakfast - Copper Pot, Apple Pie Café, and Daisy's are all good choices.
We have visited the Lakes a few times in the past, but found Ambleside to be an excellent base for many activities due to it's central location.
Would definitely use this accommodation again, and judging by the guest book, it seems to get many repeat customers!

A beautiful cottage that we have now stayed in twice when visiting the Lakes.
A beautiful cottage that we have now stayed in twice when visiting the Lakes. It is in an ideal location, just minutes walk from local shops, pubs, restaurants etc. The cottage itself is cosy, well maintained and has everything you need. Being situated in the heart of the Lakes we were able to do lots of walking but also on a rainy day the cottage was nice enough that we enjoyed spending time there reading and playing board games. The owners have provided a selection of maps and walking books for a range of abilities that were great for inspiration for days out.
The parking permit provided is super convenient and can be used in nearby towns and villages, saving a lot of money on parking costs. We had a lovely holiday and would highly recommend High White Stones.

We have stayed at High White Stones for at least five years running.
We have stayed at High White Stones for at least five years running. The first-floor cottage is always nice and clean on arrival, and it is easy to feel right at home when we open the door. It is a cozy place, but there is enough open space so it doesn't feel cramped. The location provides very easy access to lovely Ambleside and the many walks from town.
Some of the unique features which keep us coming back is the big hallway entrance which allows you to get rid of all your gear without intruding on the living space and the little outdoor seating area with a nice view of Wansfell.
At some point, future guests would appreciate getting the toilet sorted to make it easier to flush. We've got it nailed now, but I can understand it could be frustrating for new guests. Also, the cottage no longer provides washing up liquid and a few dishwasher tablets as they have done in the past - this required an extra trip to the shops when we arrived.
All-in-all, a very pleasant place to stay, and I would recommend it if you plan a visit to the Lake District for the first time or a return visit.

Cottage comfortable and had a good variety of usual home comforts.
In comparison to other cottages we've stayed in, it lacked in personal touches, e.g. Welcome pack.
Cleaning products. Complimentary bathroom treats.
