The valley of Nidderdale has a wealth of places to eat, from hearty village pubs and cafés to a Michelin star restaurant, all within 5 miles. The Old Explorers is well placed for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park, both on foot and by car. Walkers will enjoy hiking along the Nidderdale Way, a circular route that passes through the town, or for a more leisurely, flat stroll, walk the banks of the River Nidd upstream to a local pub. At the head of Nidderdale, set in a wildly rugged landscape, lie two reservoirs, the largest masonry stone dams in the world, popular with birdwatchers and walkers. Howstean Gorge offers a range of outdoor activities, with the nearby Brimham Rocks, managed by the National Trust, where you can see the effects of raw nature upon the local gritstone.

The spa town of Harrogate is just 13 miles away, where you will find a wide selection of beautiful shops, restaurants and pubs. High tea at Betty’s tearoom is a classic afternoon tradition. Ripon has a beautiful cathedral brimming with history, plus the Spa Gardens, Studley Royal Deer Park and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey are just a short distance away from Pateley Bridge. The market town of Skipton, with local street markets three times a week, a Norman castle and the Embsay to Bolton Abbey steam railway, is 25 miles away. Knaresborough, home to another castle and England’s oldest visitor attraction, Mother Shipton’s Cave and Petrifying Well, is 16 miles away.
