Otterburn sits on the edge of the National Park in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is approximately 20 minutes from Kielder Water, and only a few miles from Hadrian’s Wall, as well as being very close to the local wedding venues Le Petit Chateau and Otterburn Hall. The village, once the site of the famous 1388 victory of the Scots over the English, nestles close to the banks of the River Rede between the hills and the moors overlooking the North Tyne Valley. With pretty walks and cycle routes from the door, as well as local fishing, horse riding, golf and a friendly village shop/tea room; this is a superb location for a relaxing holiday any time of the year.
The village was once the home of a busy weaving industry and houses Otterburn Mill, marking the village’s historic past and a great tourist stop-off for afternoon tea. Across from the small public footpath that runs along the front of the Barn, is an ideal grassed area for relaxing after a day of exploring. The location has easy access to the Northumberland coast with miles of unspoilt and uncrowded golden beaches and an outstanding coastline peppered with castles and friendly locals. The famous Alnwick Castle was used in the filming of Harry Potter and is only 26 miles away. In Alnwick, you can lunch in the famous Treehouse Restaurant, visit the enchanting water gardens or simply stroll the cobbled streets and soak up the history. Shop 400 yards, pub 200 yards.

We had a brilliant time - loved how close to the coast and forest we were, to be able to visit both.

We have just spent 5 days in this lovely cottage. Would certainly recommend this accommodation. It had everything we needed and was spotless. All efforts were made to make this cottage comfortable and safe during our current pandemic. Will definitely return

Short break for a wedding
Fantastic location for us as we attended a wedding across the road! Only feedback I can give is that the bath/shower could possibly do with some attention! Other than that, it’s a nice barn and is clean. We had a lovely stay!

Very nice cottage in a lovely village, centrally located to see all the spectacular Northumberland sights. The cottage was warm, light and very comfy. The kitchen is very well equipped with just enough supplies to get you started.Nice pub very close with good food and very friendly staff. The Coach House is good too if you want something other than pub food.
Good spot for our 2 small dogs too, just a small pedestrian path to the cottages garden.
Would definitely recommend and return

Overall was ok for what we required for two days.
Overall was ok for what we required for two days. Found the mattresses uncomfortable and the shower needed fixing as the shower head slipped right down, it only had masking tape or something round it. Nowhere to let your dog roam around as a pathway was straight outside the door. Could have made the grass area opposite which belonged to the cottages secure. Grubby bedding as we stripped the beds as we left to see stained pillows and grotty duvets. No signal at all for mobiles so you would of thought WiFi in this day and age would be available in case there was an emergency. Good though that fresh milk and tea coffee where left and the Pub across the road served really nice food.

The cottage was first class.
The cottage was first class. Kitchen well equiped with washer dryer and dishwasher all neatly enclosed in units. The lounge area had 2 large comfortable settees and a large t v . We did not need to use the wood burning stove but the electric heaters were efficient. The large double bedrooms were light and airy. Overall a modern comfortable cottage with adequqte parking.

Fab cottage! Only issue was no hot water when we got there despite following the advice to switch on and wait 30-40 minutes. We then had ongoing issues with hot water and the shower varying in heat and speed.

Oak Tree Barn is one of three attached cottages in Otterburn.
Oak Tree Barn is one of three attached cottages in Otterburn. It is beautifully clean and well appointed will all the facilities, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave etc. It is advertised as dog friendly as up to two pets are allowed.
What is not clear, in my opinion, is that the "garden area" which is advertised in the details, is neither attached to the house, nor enclosed or safe for dogs. We have a Guide Dog, and a pet dog. Under Guide Dog rules, she cannot be let off her lead in an insecure area. The garden is away from the house, across a public footpath and car parking area, without fencing or gate.
This made morning spending routine difficult as we needed to be up and dressed to take her out. The garden area is open to the busy main road less than 20 yards away.
Owners with dogs need to be aware, that whilst the property allows dogs, it is not, in my opinion, particularly safe for dogs.
It is a great location for touring, and whilst the property is not sound proofed, and is therefore noisy internally, it was clean and comfortable. Logs for the wood burner would be a significant improvement. We left logs and fire lighters for the next occupiers!
