This was our 3rd and it was another fantastic stay. John is very responsive and super nice. Location is great- easy to walk to town, the beach and there is a small beach access within a 2 minute walk that is perfect for catching sunset. Great place. Great location. Great host.

We loved our stay and really enjoyed being in Charlevoix!

We stayed one week. House had everything you need for a vacation, including beach towels.
Quiet location. Not fancy at all but that’s the kind of people we are. Deck was nice for a meal. Upstairs bedrooms and bath were clean.
Owner was very communicative and even said we could check in a few hours early. Definitely would rent again because it was nice not fancy.

Second time at this location and am currently in process of reserving for year 3! Our family rents both the main house and cottage. There is a good size back yard and fire pit. Easy walk to downtown. There is a beach access super close perfect for watching sunsets. We had a small maintenance issue and our host was on it!!! He’s great. We cannot wait for next year!!

The house served our stay very well. Walking distance to Depot beach, Lake Michigan beach and to down town. Extra bikes were provided and we golfed only 4 blocks away. Never used the A/C as the home stays very cool. Kitchen had what we needed and we used it daily. Overall a very comfortable week, great location and reasonable cost! I would book again for 2023.

We rented the house and cottage. It was prefect. Plenty of room for everyone to have space. The deck in the back was a great place to hang out. Backyard was big enough to play with the kids and even had a fire pit. John checked to make sure we made it in and everything was good. Our family decided to book this property again and are already excited for next year!

We spent a week as a family in both the main house and guest cottage. Less than 10 minutes to lattes every morning kept everyone happy. We didn’t cook much, but the kitchens had everything we needed. We enjoyed the bikes and tennis rackets, too. Thanks John!

Fantastic!
Our family had a wonderful stay at this home. Plenty of room. You can’t beat the location for the price. Walkable to the bridge, downtown, and beaches! Lots of towels and other essentials.

Ok Stay
We had an ok time at this rental. The house is older and starting to show its age. The kitchen, however, has been updated and was fairly well appointed, but a pair of salad tongs would be appreciated. The master bedroom smelled a bit musty, but it was dark and quiet at night. We did not find any of the beds to be very comfortable, especially the twin beds. (When I stripped the beds before leaving, I noticed a tag on the box spring that said 2004.) We were initially concerned about cleanliness because the master bath had a dirty, hair filled razor in the shower and there were cobwebs in the master bedroom. We contacted John, the owner, who assured us that the house had been cleaned prior to arrival. The biggest issue, however, was the ants, which were everywhere. John had ant hotels scattered throughout and told us that the house had been sprayed when I mentioned the issue. He phoned us on our check out date to see how the visit had gone, and I mentioned the ants again. I assume he will address this further.
The main thing the house has going for it is the proximity to downtown Charlevoix (about a 15-minute walk) and Michigan beach (even closer). Beautiful beach! Highly recommend it as it has sand and is a wonderful spot for catching the sunset. Depot Beach on Lake Charlevoix is also within walking distance but is very rocky (water shoes are highly recommended). We also enjoyed the sunroom at the front of the house although it tends to get a strong plastic smell when it’s warm outside (windows can be opened to alleviate that). The plastic “wicker” type chairs are also starting to break down. The backyard is small, but there’s a fire pit and a propane grill. We enjoyed a few surprise visits from a cute fawn whose mother was clearly stashing it there during the day while she foraged for food.
We highly recommend Sunshine Charters for anyone wanting to get out on the water on a catamaran for a couple of hours. You can easily walk to the launch point downtown. Also, Royal Farms, which is about a 15-minute drive south of Charlevoix (on the way to Traverse City), has wonderful pies (cherry berry is a favorite). Call ahead to ensure that they have some pies available or pre-order. They also have tasty ciders available there to sample and/or purchase.
We love the Charlevoix area and have been visiting for the past few years. Thanks VRBO! I’m not sure that we’d stay at this rental again but for a large group, it could represent good value.

Great location!!
This property is in a beautiful neighborhood just a short walk to downtown Charlevoix. We loved sitting out in the sunroom where it is very cheery and comfortable! The kitchen is well stocked so we were able to cook our meals. We had great communication with John. He even offered his bikes in the basement for us to use. He even invited us out to the backyard for a campfire. We had a lovely stay. Thanks John!

Great house to stay with some family.
The property location is amazing. The pictures of the house are exactly what you get. It is a bit dated and the 2 rooms upstairs could use queen beds but overall I was very happy with my stay. If I go to charlevoix again I would be happy renting this house. Thanks John

This was our third time staying at this property since 2010 and we choose to stay here for the great northside location just 6 blocks from downtown Charlevoix and minutes to Mount McSauba Beach. Road noise from Highway 31 is a loud but manageable at night with the windows closed. The northside location allows you to avoid the congested town traffic and frequent bridge openings.Home highlights:- Comfortable, airy, screened front porch with lots of seating.- Fully stocked kitchen with all you need to prepare meals at home.- Sunny deck with lots of railing space to hang your wet towels! Gas grill in backyard.- Several adult/big kid bikes available to use.- Fast and nice washer and dryer for mid-vacation laundry- Two full bathrooms, one upstairs, one downstairs.Overall a clean and comfortable home base from which to enjoy all Charlevoix and the surrounding area has to offer.

Great location
It was a wonderful location! Cleanliness was an issue. Multiple ants, spiders and spiderwebs. Questionable if dishwasher worked very well as soap was not dispensed and dried food on some dishes. We called about no hot water and received immediate response as heater just needed to be adjusted beyond vacation mode. Grass not cut until 2 days before we left. Lots of silverware and dishes available. We brought our own linens due to Covid and I was glad. A plethora of linens available but they all seemed very well worn. The front porch was wonderful. House set in a charming neighborhood. It was great to have a washer and dryer available and AC with the warm weather. Our issue was it needed to be cleaner.

Great house with lots of room for everyone!
This house is perfect for a family. My nephew and wife with two children stayed in the house while my husband and I rented the one bedroom cottage behind the house. The dining room table expands to seat 8-10 people. The kitchen has a good assortment of pots and pans and there were good kids videos, beach toys, and beach chairs available. Would rent this house again. It is more affordable than others in the area and a short walk to downtown Charlevoix.

Hope to return!!
Hesitant to give away our newly found gem but I must say This home is lovely! Spent 2 weeks with 5 to 8 people during the Venetian Festival. Still has the Up North cottage feel but also updated with newer appliances, central air, new bathroom upstairs and a relaxing enclosed front porch. When weather permitted (it was a warm 2 weeks) we opened the porch windows and enjoyed a nice breeze. Having the oversized refrigerator and a microwave were a major plus! Central air, ceiling fans throughout, plenty of linens & cookware, a large gas grill, the basement to store our golf clubs was also stocked with bikes and has some overflow folding lawn chairs for dining on the deck or around the portable fire pit. The bathrooms are spacious enough to share while getting ready. Comfy new queen pillow top mattress in the roomy master on the main. Both TV's are flat screen and accommodated a firestick and gaming system (no getting around that with a teenage boy). Bring some board games for family time around the large dining room table which expands. Have been coming to Charlevoix and have owned property up there on and off for 30 years, the location to town and beaches from this home was a perfect walk for my crew. Home was very clean upon check in. Instructions for entry, operation & departure were clear. Wifi worked fine. The box was replaced while we were there, so its brand new. The guys enjoyed the public course 2 minutes away every morning while the ladies enjoyed the North side morning walks. The flowers are breathtaking walking down Dixon to town! What to bring... We brought our own patio table umbrella, extra sandchairs (there is 1 we used) and a drink cooler for the deck, there is 1 styrofoam cooler we used outside for bottled water. The laundry room also had plenty of storage room for beach bags etc. and washer/dryer worked great! Wish we lived in Michigan because we would be back in the fall!! BTW go find the Burnt Marshmallow Brewery 10 miles away. Another hidden gem in a peaceful setting near Walloon.

Great cottage and great location
I have rented the house on several occasions and the cottage for several years in July. Both are well maintained with well stocked kitchens. The location is great ...about 8 blocks to town down Dixon Ave which has beautiful homes. I would recommend this property to anyone! I don't understand the lady who was there last July saying the house was dirty. I stopped at the house before getting into the cottage and it looked clean to me.

Disgusting Property with Unresponsive Owner
What a horrible experience we've had with this property and owner!
We arrived on a Saturday for a family reunion and vacation to discover that the property had not been cleaned. While we were told that another tenant had just vacated that morning, it seemed as though the property had not been cleaned in weeks as both bathtubs were full of dirt, grime and mildew, there were literally piles of dirt and crumbs in various rooms, and the kitchen sink was full of food particles.
We immediately contacted the owner, who said that a cleaning lady had just been there earlier that day and he didn't know what had happened. He asked me what I wanted done about it. I informed him that I wasn't going to take possession of the property in the condition it was in, and requested that he get in contact with his cleaning lady. He wasn't sure if he could get a hold of her, so he asked me if I was willing to do the cleaning. I told him that we were there for a family reunion, and that I intended to attend that and not spend the weekend cleaning. He said he'd try to contact someone. About two hours later, he called me back to inform me that the cleaning "crew" (apparently this woman and her husband) had been back there and confirmed that the property was clean. When I returned, nothing at all had changed from our original visit. The owner tried put me in touch directly with the cleaning lady, whose husband answered and used profane language with me when I explained why I was calling. I ended that conversation, which obviously wasn't going anywhere, and attempted to reach the owner again.
When we connected, I told him nothing had been done and asked him how he was planning to resolve the situation. He said it was out of his control, but that my standards for cleanliness were likely too high. I asked him if he had looked at the pictures of the property that I sent him, and he said he hadn't had time. However, he was talking to me on the cell phone that the pictures were sent to. Again, I re-affirmed that we were not going to take possession of such a filthy property and informed him that if he didn't plan to do anything about it, our rental agreement is void and we were going to move on and try to salvage our vacation. He asked to call me back later that night, even though it was already 8 pm and we didn't have a place to stay. He never called me back that night, and I didn't hear from him again until the following afternoon, when he said that his solutio

Our family's favorite
Lots of space inside with plenty of room for a family of four (and the in-laws visiting for a few days.)
Great location, walk to town, depot beach, lake Michigan, etc.
Bikes, gas grill, sports equipment, cable, WiFi, porches, fire pit, large dining room, 2 full baths, etc.
Been coming here once or twice a year for a decade, cannot beat the value.
Owner is super cool and very professional.

Great location and wonderful house!!
It was the perfect spot, half way between Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix - everything was walking distance from the home. There were bikes available, as needed too! We had friends stay in the cottage in the back, which was alot of fun. We were able to find everything we needed and had a wonderful time touring the area! Climbed Sleeping Bear Dunes did zip lining too! A great vacation house!

Great rental house - lots of extras
I stayed for two weeks in this house and just loved it. I was there with two teenagers, and two other adults. We had lots of room, the kitchen had everything we needed, and we enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch in the evenings. The boys used the bikes in the house which were in excellent condition. We also used the bonfire pit two nights and enjoyed sitting under the stars. Only had to use the AC a few nights as the temperatures were moderate. The location is just terrific too! Close to town and beaches. Boys played tennis a few times and used the racquets in the house. Stayed at this house last summer for week as well. Great price for what you get!
