Welcome to Hawkes Nest!
Hawkes Nest is a charming mountain home with three (3) bedrooms on a large wooded property with seasonal mountain views, located just outside of downtown Banner Elk at the base of Beech Mountain. Ideal for all seasons, you are less than five (5) miles to the slopes of Beech Mountain Ski Resort and maybe ten (10) miles to the slopes of Sugar Mountain Ski Resort for snow skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snow tubing, and sledding. Once the slopes close in the late spring, the High Country is a beautiful place to visit as nature awakens with warm, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. The summer speaks for itself, and the High Country sees an incredible demand for summer vacation destinations. After the summer ends and we roll into the fall, the weather is a big draw, again with pleasant days and chilly nights, and the color palette comes to life as the leaves change to fiery oranges, reds, golds, and browns. The views at Hawkes Nest begin to open up during the fall leaf season, which makes this a special place to stay.
The main level offers a great room with comfy sofas, an HD ROKU Smart TV with DVD Player and digital cable programming, and a wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen, fully stocked with glassware, silverware, dishware, and cookware, is adjacent to the great room. Its central island seats four (4) guests, and the dining table seats six guests. Hawkes Nest accommodates ten in the dining area.
The master suite has a hand-hewn-log king-sized bed, an HDTV with digital cable programming, and an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom has a jetted tub and separate shower, a double vanity, and a walk-in closet. Upstairs offers two more bedrooms. Each has a private full bathroom with a shower. One of the two upstairs bedrooms features a queen bed and an HD ROKU Smart TV with digital cable programming. The other upstairs bedroom has two (2) twin beds, a twin daybed with a twin trundle bed, a foosball table, and an HD ROKU Smart TV with digital cable programming. There are two inflatable twin-size aero beds upstairs for extra sleeping options. At the top of the stairs is a central Juliette Deck which enjoys the seasonal mountain views.
The main level has a covered front porch leading to a wrap-around deck on the side and rear of the house. You will find an electric grill, an outdoor dining table, and a hot tub on this deck. Paved parking with a ramp down to the front porch and level entry makes this a handicap-friendly house for mobility issues. A washer and dryer, wireless internet, and central heating and air conditioning are a few of the basic amenities you will have. A convenient location close to the restaurants and shops in downtown Banner Elk, a short drive to the Lees McRae campus, and a short drive up to the slopes on Beech Mountain Ski Resort make this an ideal mountain getaway. The owners spend a decent amount of time here, and it shows as it feels like a well-loved and well-cared-for home.
Sleeping Arrangements (sleeps up to 8 guests):
King Master Suite (sleeps 2)
Queen Bedroom Suite (sleeps 2)

Dried dripped food in the fridge, blankets crumpled into a pile on closet floors, shower with hairs and dripped soap or shampoo, old wet coffee grounds still in the coffee maker, coffee pot with dried coffee in the bottom, dirty bathroom mats in the bathroom floors, a layer of dust so thick you could write in it.

This was a beautiful house in the mountains just above town in banner elk. We ended up coming to town to ski at beach mountain for the weekend. When we arrived to the cabin in the snow the driveway was already plowed and was plowed a few more times during the stay. Has amazing views off the back porch and in the hot tub. Very spacious and clean house. Would highly recommend to anyone! I hope to be back one day.

The cabin was as listed. Great space. Plenty of room. We had 2 adult couples with 3 teen boys. We had a great time. The place was close to both Beech mountain and Sugar mountain. The cabin had everything we needed for a great stay!

Overall good
Enjoyed a long weekend here while we skiied at Sugar Mountain. Had some initial things that required support from the rental company upon arrival, but got those worked out. The rooms are very spacious and the many bathrooms were in great shape, too. Kitchen was decently stocked for cooking basics for family- not the best I've experienced but we were able to make due. Overall, was a good value- would love to give them a five but feel like just a little extra attention to the place and to the checkin process would have gotten them that.

Hawk's Nest
Great property and location. Everything was very clean. The only downfall is that the property was not really stocked well - very short on towels (1 per guest), garbage bags (1), toilet paper (1 per bathroom), paper towels, etc.

Birthday snow holiday
The cabin is nice. We love the location right between Beech Mt. and Sugar, an easy drive to any of the restaurants and shopping in Banner Elk! The driveway is a little intimidating to come down in the ice and snow. You definitely want to have 4 wheel drive for the driveway, visions of skidding out of control all the way into the front living room of the cabin dancing in your mind. We loved the hot tub but wish it was located under the upper deck so we didn't have to dig it out of snow or walk in the snow to use it. There was a few things that made us think the cleaning could have been done a little better, black finger prints on the light switch plates, the cook top grimy, etc so I am glad I had my bottles of Microban to go over everything. Would have done that anyway no matter how clean it seemed, you need to be responsible for your own family's safety. Other than that the cabin was beautiful, lots of space for everyone to spread out and get their alone time when needed.
The kids loved their room so much we hardly ever saw them. The room for the kids is up stairs so it is great for the adults to be able to sit and have adult time in front of the fireplace, away from the kid drama. The beds are very comfortable,. I have a bad back and usually can't sleep well in others beds. The master was great and my sister said the upper queen was good too. We never ran out of hot water with all six of us there. There was Netflix on the TV so we were able to watch Disney + and we were able to Chromecast the super bowl game onto the living room TV pretty easily, there is plenty of books and games as well. There is a ramp from the driveway to the front door that is a really great feature for rolling you luggage into the house avoiding the stairs. Most of all it is great to know that if you have a disability or break a leg on the slopes you can get a wheelchair into the lower/main level of the house. Over all it was a really nice stay and we were lucky enough to have snow falling the days we were there! For some of our group it was the first time seeing snow! Thanks for having us in your beautiful home!
PS When staying in these Covid times make sure you call ahead for reservations for dinner, play time, slope time, tickets everything! The availability for everything is very limited.

Wonderful location!
We had a wonderful snowy adventure! The house is cozy and well appointed. We were a little disappointed in the housekeeping. I had to wash all the silverware, every piece we pulled had food dried on it. That was a bummer considering the price point, but otherwise it was just awesome! Comfy beds, lots of amenities, and the location was outstanding! We sled right in the backyard and loved every minute! We look forward to returning next year!

Quick ski weekend
Location and amenities were great for a quick ski weekend for our family of four. Even split between Sugar and Beech ski resorts. Only small issue is that the hot tub was set to 84 degrees when we arrived so we couldn’t use it the first night.

Pretty good despite issues
After booking online I was called by the management company telling me I hadn't met the minimum stay. This was days after being charged. After a couple of days and several phone calls, they agreed to keep my money and allow us to stay for the two nights we requested. Upon arrival, there was trash all over the deck outside including food scraps and a used diaper. In addition to this, the hot tub was left open so it had lots of debris in it and was only half full of water. The handyman who came after calling the management company was extremely nice and did a great job cleaning up outside as well as draining and refilling the hot tub but we still had to wait a day before we could use it. All in all, it was a decent place but I will be wary of renting from Carolina Cabin Rentals again.

Wonderful cabin, easy access to town and great view of the mountains. Just one comment for future updates, it needs a new set of silverware. It only had 2 dinner forks, the rest was salad forks. It would also help if it had a decent set of cooking pots.
Overall, a great place. Thank you to the owner for all the beautiful decorations,

Hawkes Nest is ideally
Hawkes Nest is ideally Located just outside of Downtown Banner Elk convienient to restaurants and shopping and a short drive to Beech and Sugar Mtns. The house was very comfortable and in good condition. It accommodated our two families of 4 adults and 3 children nicely. Nice home, could use some improvements
The view and home is great. Handicap accessibility is a plus. Drive in is a bit challenging. The towel situation with the hot tub and a full house was a challenge. We washed lots of towels because no one had room to pack extra towels. Cooking would have been better with either a griddle or a large,12 in., pans.
