The staff was friendly and very helpful...they went out of their way to make us comfortable.
The food was outstanding, as well as the service !
The room could have used better storage facilities for luggage and personal items.....a couple shelves, perhaps drawers under the beds?

We were staying at the Black Horse for a wedding in the local area. The hotel was excellent, stylishly decorated and situated in the really pretty village of Amberley. We had an evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant, the food was fantastic. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for visiting Arundel and the surrounding countryside. We would thoroughly recommend the Black Horse!

Absolutely lovely pub, really nicely done inside and outside. Garden was lovely it was a shame it wasn’t warm enough to sit out longer! Food was really good! Definitely our best meal on the South Downs way. Room really comfortable, really quick train to Arundel castle for a day out and lots to do in the area.
Price didn’t include breakfast - would have been a nice extra

Fantastic place, right on the hiking trail. Great staff and nice food, the pub and restaurant was great. Also a nice outdoor garden

Great location and lovely pub, the staff were all very kind. The room was cosy, with a comfortable bed and good shower. The breakfast was excellent. We'd love to see it in the summer and be able to eat outside.
We couldn't figure out the thermostat in the room and it was extremely hot. Next time we'd ask about it when being shown the room, as it was late at night before we realised the issue.

Great country location and lovely range of food on offer for lunch dinner and breakfast.
Serving staff were great.
Limited heating in our bedroom.

lovely old inn which is tastefully decorated. the room is in BBC an N annex with its own entrance and fridge with milk and water. I ate on the restaurant and all the staff were welcoming and efficient.
The only issue I would mention is that breakfast is not till 9am on a Sunday which is a bit late for people walking the South Downs Way as I was. I asked about doing a packed version instead. they made me a packed lunch but charged an extra £10!

What an amazing pub! Lots of different spaces, including a garden that must be lovely in the summer. A quiet time of year, but lots of locals in and a real feeling of local pub (couple of entitled loud-mouths at one point, but I managed to move away). Food was top drawer, and even if Amberley ale is brewed 15 minutes' drive away it's a good pint if you like golden but not too hoppy. Breakfast also excellent (but only if included on b&b tariff: £20 ouch)
The room was tiny. Sorry but for £128 I expect something more spacious. This is my fourth stop on the South Downs Way, the others being £55, £94, £91. Tonight's accommodation is £61. All of these places have been roomier. Also the room was quite dank and musty when I arrived: sheets and duvet felt damp and cold. Staff tried to help by turning up the underfloor heating, but tbh I didn't really feel dry and warm until it was time to get up for the next leg.

Great country pub with excellent food, comfortable rooms and first class staff. Breakfasts were a particular highlight with a wide choice of individually cooked plates. Rooms were warm with a well appointed bathroom. It's a dog friendly hotel which is a real plus as there is loads of good walking on the South Downs straight from the door of the pub.
Lack of parking

Superb, freshly cooked breakfast with lots of choice of juice, yogurt, pastries etc as well
Restaurant food was excellent. Imaginative and delicious. Foody as well as pub classic options and priced accordingly. all very good. Packed lunch awesome. Room. very comfortable
Some might think a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. We were walking the South Downs Way and this was the highlight of our 7 stays.

Breakfast doesn't start until 0930 so we couldn't have any due to needing to check out early. We did ask if anything else could be offered via email before our stay but they didn't really respond to the question. We did ask again when we arrived but told Breakfast starts at 0930.
Restaurant was very expensive for what we had and food took a long time to arrive.

This was a lovely location for a breakaway for the weekend. The vegetarian breakfast was filling and tasty. Even though it was a pub, the noise level was low. I will definitely return again.

Beautiful country pub, spotlessly clean very friendly staff.
Air con in room would have been nice but then again we don't normally have the temperatures we have had recently

Booked the hotel for a wedding nearby, but would love to come back and visit area properly. The Black Horse exceeded our expectations - the pub itself was really lovely and the rooms very well appointed. It has a beautiful garden filled with fairy lights in the back where we ate a delicious dinner. The breakfasts were also excellent. The village itself is like a picture postcard with a tea room nearby where they served us a gigantic slice of Victoria Sponge, which I would also recommend alongside The Black Horse! Amberley is tricky to get to if you don't drive, but we found it very easy to get around in pre-booked taxis to and from the station and the wedding venue.
