About this cottage rental
If you like the beach, cooking, reading or vinyl, this is the place. Our classic beach house is between a tidal pond and the most beautiful beach on the island. Recreated from a former surf shop, an open kitchen/living area opens out onto covered porch and decks, with water views all around. Comfortably fits four adults and two kids.
A master bedroom and en suite bath look out to sea. Two cozy bedrooms, one with a full-sized bed and the other with two bunks, share a separate bath. NO TV! Laze in hammocks and rediscover peace and love. Sleep to the sound of the waves.

Awesome week at Claudia’s Surf City! The location can’t be beat and the Island never disappoints. The beach is across the street, kayaking is off the backyard, town and hiking all within walking distance.

Quintessential beach house
Second stay at this awesome house, and cannot say enough about what a special spot Claudia has created. The relaxed vibe, the very comfy indoor/outdoor hang-out spaces, the location (easy walk to the beach and downtown), the incredible ocean and salt pond views, the outdoor shower, everything. One week isn't enough, so we booked two this time. :-) Thank you Claudia!!

We had the most relaxing, fun and rejuvenating vacation at Claudia’s Surf City. The house is in a great location to walk to restaurants or across the street to swim at the beach. Laying on a hammock or drinking coffee on the porch with an ocean breeze is the best. We loved the records and eclectic nature of the house. The host is immediately responsive and kind. We can’t wait to return.

Lots to love, unless you expect Clean.
Claudia's Surf City was as described, in terms of location and fun, funky style to the home. Lots of great details, like the indoor hammock, wrap around porch, record player, amazing outdoor shower. Unfortunately, cleanliness was a major issue. Upon arriving, I immediately contacted the owner regarding the layers of dirt, dust, and mold, dirty socks and a blood stained mattress cover in the room where I was making up the beds for my boys to sleep. I was told to send pics (which I did). The next morning, as I tried to unpack (we arrived late, so there was plenty of time for a cleaning to occur) I was not able to unpack anything without first wiping everything down. Everything, everywhere. Black mold in/on the refrigerator, hair in the toaster, silverfish bugs in all the books, layers of dust and dirt on everything in all rooms. It took me many, many hours to clean just to unpack. I asked for the cleaner to come back as this was not at all how I envisioned "vacation", but was told that my expectations of clean were not a good fit for this house, and I should pack up and leave (alone with my 7 and 9 year old boys, an 11 month old puppy, a hurricane hitting the area and mid-pandemic, this was almost laughable). If there were some attention paid to cleaning the house, it would be an awesome place to call home for a week or so. But for over 12 grand, I would think "clean" is not an outrageous expectation.

Amazing location, gorgeous views!
This house has it all - it is our second year coming to Claudia's and we loved it just as much as last year. The location of the house cannot be beat!! It's tucked away enough to feel private, but close to absolutely everything. The beach across the street, town within 5 minutes, and New Harbor within 15 it is a dream! The house is very well kept, the beds are comfy, and the unique craftsmanship of the house really make it feel like a home. I hope we will make it back for another year next summer!!

The perfect beach getaway!
This house was exactly what I was looking for in a Block Island rental - unique and charming with a beautiful porch, outdoor shower, and stunning views of the ocean just across the street. It's set back from the road and quiet, while being perfectly situated close to town and just steps away from the beach! I'm already dreaming of next summer.

We had a wonderful week at Claudia’s surf city! Great location across from the beach. Short bike ride to other beaches, town and marina. Awesome outdoor shower. Stocked kitchen and relaxing indoor hammock. Highly recommend!

A place to relax and enjoy a simpler time
Claudia’s Surf City offers world weary folks a place to disconnect & rediscover the natural rhythm of life. Enjoy the sunrise from the lovely wrap around porch (or from the comfort of your bed in the master bedroom). While away the day at the beach just across the street or with a good book in the hammock on the porch. Take a jaunt over to West Beach to enjoy the sunset - likely you’ll be the only ones there. Chambers stove or walk into the village for dinner from your choice of multiple restaurants. We didn’t eat at the same place twice.... A nightcap on the porch while listening to the sounds of nature (or tunes spun from the record collection) and enjoying the ocean breeze finshes out the day. If you need a break - this is the place to come. Claudia was a lovely host and checked in just enough to let us know she was available for any need that might arise.

Loved this place- even during a tropical storm :)
We just returned from a lovely stay at Claudia's Surf City. The house is right on the beach so you can hear the waves crashing at night. It is an easy walk to town and the location is perfect. We loved the large wrap around porch and the pond out back. We didn't have great weather but we would definitely return to this spot! Claudia was accommodating and answered all our questions. No ferries ran for four days and we were able to extend our stay with our dogs thanks to her kindness!

6th year staying at Claudia's Surf City.
It took us 12 years to find the perfect rental on BI, but wow! was it worth the wait. This was our 18th summer vacation on Block Island and 6th straight year at Claudia's. Love absolutely everything about this Block Island property: location (walk to beach, walk to town and restaurants, walk to salt pond), ocean views and beach cottage charm. Wrap around porch with closing gates are perfect for keeping your tots or pups from heading to the beach without you. Outdoor shower is awesome and doesn't impact the island's fragile septic system. Claudia is a thoughtful property owner who is always ready to help with any issue that may arise. I've never had any problems with HomeAway (VRBO) - easy booking, important reminders, easy payment. Looking forward to next year already.

we love this spot
we have stayed at Claudia's on Block Island several times and was the first place we have rented since we started renting houses instead of taking our boat. We have tried several other locations on the island which were nice but the location and feel of the house is just totally Block Island. we sit in the house and watch bikes, mopeds ,joggers, and toy loaded vehicles cruise by while ferry's come and go on the hour right out front. Our kids can walk easily into town and the grocery store and nightlife are also very very close. Great outdoor shower which is a must on Block. Only thing that needs attention is the grilling equipment. suggest getting a good gas grill and anchoring it to a spot. great time

Amazing!
We were so relaxed and happy at this quintessential beach house located directly across from the beach. There are french doors at the front of the house that we kept open all week long. The breeze from the ocean literally swirls in and around the house, and straight out the back. The house has two hammocks and a porch swing (my fav place to sit in the mornings with coffee and watch the world wake up). There are gates on the porch that when closed, allowed our dogs to be outside with us at all times...huge bonus for us personally! Views from the upstairs bedroom are silly beautiful...keep the curtains open to watch the sunrise from your bed:) The record player and extensive album collection really made our stay special. This house is funky and fun, there are items of interest wherever you look. Super house, location and owner, cant wait to return!

Amazing!
I (we) LOVED our stay at Claudia's Surf City. This is our second time staying and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The house is adorable and the views are breathtaking. It has something to offer everyone. Truly - heaps of books, a great record collection, hammocks, bocce, insane views, best outdoor shower ever - what more could we want? The wrap around porch was perfect for eating, relaxing, and sorting whatever rocks/shells the kids collected that day. I cannot say enough about the outdoor shower. Loved it so much I showered during a rain storm. The location of the house is close to perfect. Our family (twins-4, daughter-5 and a big super mutt) spent most of our time walking to town and to the beach. Claudia was so great with us and was more than accommodating. Thank you for providing a such a wonderful getaway home!

Another wonderful BI vacation!
My family (son-27, daughter-24) and I had a blissful Labor Day week vacation at this funky but totally updated home. We have been going to Block since they were born but never stayed right on the beach and so close to town. It was a wonderful experience and thinking back would have been equally ideal when they were little - walking across the street to the beach rather than loading up the car is so easy. The views from every room and the porches are exquisite; in fact one picture I took from the master bedroom will be the subject of my next 24x36 oil painting!

A real beach house
We went to Block island with ages ranging from 7 months to 78 years and 2 dogs 70 lbs and 15 lbs and everyone enjoyed their stay. We had great weather and walked to the beach and into town everyday. The hiking was great for the dog and toddler too. We grilled and enjoyed our family dinners it was a great relaxing getaway for all.

I've been going to this house for a lot of years because, well, its location is Amazing, on a spit of land between ocean and bay. The feel is Urban Surf Funk with Yard Sale overtones. And yes, it has no TV. Which when you have kids, is a really good thing. So I can work on line on my computer in the early AM and turn it off the rest of the time. Read one of the million or so books. Walk to town if I want. And take a nap in the hammock if I want. Bring my dog. Go to the beach, or my kids can go alone (it's ok, they're old enough). And feel like I'm a hundred million miles away. That's why I keep going back--so keep off my weeks!

Off season means no people, no traffic, beautiful beaches. A calm serene place and the perfect spot to have a REAL vacation. The water is warm and the sunsets intense! I would recommend this spot to anyone! Walk to town, across from the beach. Water water everywhere!

My stay at this cozy cottage was magical. Views of the water came in from every direction. The pictures do show a lot of charm but the ocean views were not featured and should have been. You are a very short walk down the drive, cross the street and you are right on the beach. The views of the ocean are fabulous from the windows and porch that are not reflected in the photos listed. You are also a short lovely walk to the the quaint center of the island town. I highly recommend checking into this cottage if you're looking for a relaxing vacation with views of the ocean to the front, a tidal pond out back, and a fresh water pond with lily pads at your door step. I obviously love the water that surrounds the rustic adorable cottage. A must in my opinion.
