Be prepared to stay out of town by getting all the food prior coming to this home including water
Home is cozy n v private

Check in process was smooth and easy. The property had enough of the basic kitchen utensils to cook meals, the grill worked well. The small heaters provided quickly warmed up the cabin when needed. Bring plenty of fire starter if you plan to use the wood oven/ fireplace. The view from the back porch was as advertised, this felt like a very private getaway. We rarely heard noise from the neighboring properties. It would have been nice to have a few more outside seating options, especially to use the outside fire pit. Overall very happy with our stay and the proximity to the Park.

The listing is deceiving as it never mentions that the bedroom is downstairs, not accessible from the inside and not permitted by the county. This unit should be listed as a studio. The bedroom is a health hazard due to the strong mold smell. We had to sleep on the living room, there was no linens provided for the sofa bed, it was a really thin pad that you could feel all the metal base, so we had to ask for an air mattress. Not a chance of 4 adults staying. Also the listing doesn’t say the internet is via satellite which is really slow and can barely download e-mails and that you have to haul your trash. Vacasa should update the listing to reflect the reality of the property.

Did not enjoy our stay here. The fridge was broken, bathtub didn't drain, all dishes were dirty. Very dated house, smells stale, all the sheets had that old laundry scent. Layout was weird, completely separate bedroom entrance, at night it gets very creepy so we all just slept on a very bumpy n lumpy pullout couch
On a plus side, listening to tree frogs was amazing

The house is clean and well stocked with everything from toiletries to cooking pans and utensils and even a washer and dryer. The layout is a bit quirky as the living room, kitchen and main bath/shower upstairs with the bedroom down stairs. It's easy enough to move around and the eaves keep you dry from the rain (remember it's a rainforest) as you move around the property.
The privacy is second to none as the house is tucked nicely into the jungle with only views of the roofs of neighboring homes.
If you're booking this place it is because you want to spend time at Hawaii Volcano National Park. It's a very short drive to the park, great hiking and great views. It is also very close to the wonderful restaurants in the town of Volcano. There are also a couple of minimart type stores there. However, the closest grocery store would be FoodLand in Keaau. Not a bad drive as you shouldn't have to run to a major store except once.
As long as you're okay with stairs and don't mind rain, the place is homey and a good place to stay.
The only problem we had was the gate code we were given was incorrect. A phone call got us into the emergency set of keys as they couldn't figure out the gate code either. We also called about getting a later checkout. I gave up after waiting on the phone for over 40 minutes for anyone to talk to. This isn't the owners fault by any means but a reflection on Vacasa itself. If they offer 24 hour contact, someone should answer the phone.

We had fun here- kinda rustic but comfortable. Should mention the house has an awkward layout with the bedroom downstairs next to the garage, so you have to walk outside in the rain to go back and forth. Loved the outdoor shower though.

Advertised cost was not actual cost. By a long shot. We paid over $500 for one night. I understand the properties are more geared to multiple nights, but that was too much. Five times advertised price. Also, would have appreciated some way to know what keys were for what locks.

We loved the location of this beautiful home. It was cozy and updated. The frogs at night were a welcome change to the construction and noise of Other hotel guests in Kona. Communication was great and it felt like we got a great deal . I would definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed this place as it was relatively close to the HI volcanoes park and very quiet. A little strange that the bedroom is separated (downstairs with separate locked door) from the rest of the house and isn’t close to the bathroom, but we got used to that and really enjoyed the quiet jungle and the chickens.

Will return next time on this side of Island to hike!

Feen Forest
Nice location if looking for ag lot away from it all. Weed wacked Ferns and found property corners. Cool at night but never used wood stove. Everything worked. Hit water , internet, shower, toilet. Price was right. Wild chickens were fun to feed. They loke banana and corn chips

We loved our stay at this at this 'cabin in the woods'
This was a great place to stay, quiet (except roosters and frogs, etc) and the fern forest was lovely. Not far from Hilo, Volcano and interesting sights (only about 30 minutes black sand beach Punaluu). The cool nights were great for sleeping. The house was comfortable, clean and spacious. The kitchen could use a sharp knife or two, and the poor outdoor lighting made getting in and out of the house and bath a bit tricky. Our family of four all slept in the main room and we did not use the separate lower bedroom at all - our little kids did not want to be so far away from parents. Overall very good and recommended!
4.2
Wonderful accommodation to spend holidays
We can highly recommend the accommodation. After the start problems were solved, the stay went smoothly. The problems concerned 1. internet connection, 2. hot water, 3. TV.
1. internet did not work for the first 5 days, so we had practically no possibility of communication as foreigners = unacceptable.
2 The problem was solved quickly and easily.
3rd TV: The instructions for use were unusable due to faulty operating devices. The problem was solved within a reasonable time.
All in all we enjoyed our stay in Volcano very much. We would rent the Guardian Hwak again for our next trip.
Best regards, Thomas

Nice house in secluded area surrounded by rain forest
Pretty and big house with all amenities on a huge wild property away from the tourist accumulation, but close to Volcano National Park.

Kahu lo Guardian Hawk
This home is comfortable and compact. Be aware that the bedroom is not inside the main part of the house. The room has it's own entrance from the outside behind the garage area downstairs and is not accessible from inside the house. It is five miles from the few shops of Volcano so if you need any supplies make sure and bring them with you. There were some shortages of knives and coffee mugs but otherwise it was warm, secure and is in a beautiful setting among the large ferns. You will be secluded in a wonderland of nature.
4.2
Secluded treehouse in rainforest
This lovely home is private and tranquil on the outskirts of Volcano. Clean, professionally decorated, newer construction, laundry facilities, tons of porch space, comfortable sleeping, wood-burning fireplace, and an outdoor tub to unwind while listening to the abundance of animal sounds at night. It's truly spectacular...if you can embrace the feeling of being out in the "country" with a locking driveway gate, some low water pressure issues, a running toilet, lots of stairs, and solitude. Purchase all your grocery needs outside of Volcano and arrive during daylight hours to successfully find this property, unlock gate, and retrieve house key. If you arrive after sunset, you will need a flashlight to help. My family of 4 loved it!

A must stay on the big island
Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 8 days and i wouldn't of wanted it to go any other way. The instructions to check in and out we're clear and easy. The house was way beyond expectations. Everything was clean and organized. We tried really hard to find one bad thingabout the experience with the place but we couldn't. I would book it again and highly recommend to anyone considering visiting the big island. Well done!

Basic with benefits
I liked the location, a mile from the belt highway, 1/2 hour from the Hilo airport, & ten minutes away from the funky little town of Volcano & Hawaii Volcanos National Park. I loved that the house is so private & quiet. The living room is bright & sunny, the lanai is great, & the cell reception, TV, & wi-fi are excellent. I was glad that the yard is wild & not fussy. The downstairs bedroom set-up would be OK for a guy, but as a woman I chose to sleep upstairs on the queen size futon, which is very comfortable. I had to be a little creative with the lighting there, though. The wood burning fireplace & washer & dryer were real pluses.
