About this cottage rental
Stay in your own private little cottage with windows on all 4 walls. This unique property is the studio of Vermont/California artist, Meryl Lebowitz, and was created to have prime views of the painter's property. The Artist's cottage has it's own heating system, bathroom and kitchenette with electric fry pan, toaster, mini fridge, rice maker, crock pot, hot pot, coffee maker, microwave and a gas grille. Enjoy hanging out inside (bring your inner artist), or explore the trails that traverse the 40 acres. In the winter you can snow shoe or back country ski from the front door, In the summer enjoy the flowers, visit the cabin in the woods, hit targets with the bb gun, and make sure to have a camp fire.
We have 40 acres of off leash trails for your pets. Pets are not allowed to stay in the cottage alone. Please let us know before booking if you'll be bringing your dog.
Kirby is a scenic gem in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, bordered by Burke, Victory, Concord, St Johnsbury and Lyndon. The Cottage is 5 miles from East Burke, a village well known for it's ski area and biking trails, and 4 miles from Lyndon, home of Lyndon State College.
If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, (connector to Kingdom trails about 2 miles our dirt road) surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.
My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill. If the cottage is full for your dates, send us a request. We may have something else available for your stay.

Unique, gorgeous, clean. Had a wonderful weekend stay. I highly recommend.

Quiet, picturesque with gardens, art, and long views. The grounds are meticulously kept. Loads of room to roam with my dog. The cottage was comfortable, clean and well equipped. A perfect place to relax and “regroup”. I can not think of one thing that could make my stay any better. Highly recommend and hope I get back.

We couldn’t of been happier at this cozy cottage. When we arrived, the heat was on and everything was clean and well appointed. We spent four days exploring the region on skis, snow shoes, and yak tracks. We love this place and look forward to returning.

We loved the solitude during the quiet season in Vermont. The bed was very comfortable and it was a treat to have a king size bed. Love that dogs are welcome and that it is located near Dog Mountain.

We had a wonderful few days, staying at the Studio Cottage on this magical piece of property. Meryl was great, very responsive and helpful, the cottage was beautiful--very clean and cozy and comfortable. The views are spectacular--we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our visit to the Northeast Kingdom!

We had such a lovely time staying here. It was the perfect retreat after long days of biking in the area and was super cozy for our rainy, rest day. The property is absolutely stunning, from the gardens to the sculptures to the views. We really enjoyed starting our day with tea on the porch watching the fog roll through the mountains and ending our day in the same spot admiring the stunning sunsets over the mountain.
The cottage studio was well stocked allowing us to cook a few meals both inside with the wok and skillet and outside on the grill. The studio, linens and towels were very clean and the bed was super comfy. Meryl was an awesome host and we're grateful she is willing to share her beautiful property with visitors!

We spent 4 days at the cottage on Meryl and David’s property. It was really quite lovely overall. The gardens and sculptures are really gorgeous and made the stay more memorable. The location is convenient to E. Burke and Lyndonville but about 14 minutes to Darling Hill area if you are coming up to ride Kingdom Trails. My comments on the rental are 1) there are only 2 coffee mugs so if there are more than 2 guests you may need to bring some, 2) the bathroom is very rustic and the shower is small even for a cottage in case that matters to you. Finally: the buildings are very close to one another and we could hear people talking in the other buildings. I was fine with that but people may want to know that they are very close together. But the bedding and linens were great and the cottage was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed it!

Lovely relaxing spot
What a beautiful spot! My daughter and I came to x-country ski but there was no snow. We still had a great time - nice hike through Lyndon state forest, enjoyed the sculptures on the property and fun in St. Johnsbury. The cottage is very comfortable and has a spectacular view. My daughter wants to make this trip an annual tradition!

Serene Escape
We enjoyed the property's artistic elements, beautiful location, comfort level, and proximity to unique Vermont experiences. Would gladly return. Host was available and very friendly. Large compound had many lovely wooded trails to explore, and sculptures to admire. Lovely green mountain view from all windows, especially at sunset on the porch. Cozy space for a memorable romantic getaway. We recommend day trips to Stowe, Burke, Montpelier, and Lake Willoughby. All less than an hour away.

Perfect scenic getaway
Beautiful building on a beautiful property! I came up to relax and get in one last weekend of snow sports at Jay Peak. Even though I was about an hour from Jay, this property was worth the drive. Great sunsets and my dog enjoyed the walking trails. Would definitely stay here again!

clean, cute, great views
Very clean, stunning views, simple and tasteful decor. No cook top - a variety of electrical appliances and microwave, so we were fine (we brought home cooked prepared food), but don't expect to cook a complicated gourmet meal here.

Cute art sudio/cottage beware small appliances
We sincerely enjoyed the property location and the amazing views. The studio cottage has a wonderful lay out. There is no real kitchen. Several of the small appliances are not worth attempting to use, including the microwave, coffee maker, and the toaster. Cleanliness could use some help in this cottage. There are clearly some small scrambling inhabitants in the attic of this cottage. Though we did not see them in our living space, we and one of our dogs could hear them at night.

Highly Recommended
The perfect spot for a quiet, relaxing and romantic summer getaway for two. Spectacular views as we sat outside to enjoy our morning coffee. Nicely furnished and bright interior. The grounds are beautiful and reflect the artistic sensibilities of the owner. Meryl makes the rental process easy while also ensuring guests comply with CoVID-19 travel rules, (which I wholeheartedly support). It was a pleasure to do business with her.

Crazy about this cottage!
Our first experience at the cottage was in July and we booked the October visit then. We had a couple of issues that we shared with Meryl in July and, to our delight, they were addressed very much to our liking. The cottage is so incredibly cozy, and we look forward to coming again next summer! It does not disappoint!

VT Studio Getaway
My husband and I loved staying in the Studio Cottage! The property is amazing and the cottage is perfect. Being artists ourselves, we felt right at home (and envious) in the space. We loved watching the sunset from the front porch and then the next morning, watching the sunrise over the valley as our heads were still on our pillows.
Having a little kitchenette was also great so we could make a simple breakfast and linger over coffee before starting out daily adventures.
We would love to come back and also see the property in the winter.
Amazing spot!

Amazing property
Absolutely beautiful property outside. Amazing 360 views. The interior needs a better cleaning that what we experienced. Dirty dishes and flatware were placed for use. The cottage is very cute. Great size. Bed was comfortable but better sheets would be nice. Ours had bleach spots.
