About this cottage rental
Lake of Bays Township Short-Term Rental (STR) License #: 089-2022
Note: Our cottage is one we actively use on the weekends, so expect it to have a lived-in feel (versus 'property-managed'). That said, we keep it clean and tidy and expect you to do the same :)
You sip a morning java in the cozy grip of an oversized Muskoka Chair, and stare out across the glassy tranquil of Camp Lake. The mist dissipates as the sun labours its slow ascent to blue skies above, and slowly warms the morning air. The silence of the moment is interrupted, just briefly, as an eager trout leaps from the water and ushers in the dawn of a new day. Or was it a Bass? It quickly darts towards the deep, rocky shore, past the dock, and dives deep into the clearness of the loch.
It's likely that you waded through this same watery path just the night before, indulging in a midnight swim, accompanied solely by a full moon, and the awesome beauty of the Northern Lights that twinkled high in the night sky like a rippling blanket of silver and blue satin. Had it not been for these luminescent companions, you may have struggled to climb through the darkness, up the winding steps, back to the cottage and the warm glow of the campfire; the songs, rising with the sparks and fireflies, into the glistening night sky.
This morning, those same steps lead you back. Back from the dock, which overlooks the diving raft and the reflection of the azure sky in the lake? Up past the lower deck, where a rouged canoe sits restfully against a towering Hemlock. It winds up the steps to the two-tiered, upper deck as the loons bark a song in the background, to the story-and-a-half Muskokan refuge at the top of the slope, nestled under a canopy of evergreens. You enjoy a leisurely breakfast and ponder the contents of the day ahead. Some fishing? Golf? Horseback riding? Perhaps a simple hike and a swim? Whatever you choose, you know it will be just what you needed, far from the bustle of the city and from the daily worries of life. In the grip of this Muskoka Chair, the day looks perfect. And what else would you expect from a place as magical, as wonderful, as Camp Lake?

Quite beautiful scenery. Well equipped. Surprisingly spacious in and out. Enjoyed wood fire inside and outside.

It was just what we were looking for. Quiet, cozy, off the beaten path, somewhat rustic, and comfortable. The wood stove added a lot to the ambiance.

We loved the place but had to really clean up in the cottage, before it was clean for our family. The dick was wonderful however, the walk down was very unsafe. We often tripped over exposed spikes, to keep the log type steps, secure. The way we had to carefully climb over fallen trees, secured to act as a retaining type wall. Other than that, we really liked spending so much time on the water. There were several water toys such as paddle board and canoes.

Second year we've stayed here. Think of it like borrowing your friend's house. Everything is there that you need, including things you wouldn’t have thought of. It rained a few days but we still had a blast. Canoe, kayak, fishing, swimming, hanging out on the deck and long walks down the private road. The only thing I could possibly think of to improve our time there would be a dishwasher to make more time available for fun. Be sure to visit Limberlost Forest during your stay and see the inuk shuks. The updates from last year are great, the kid loved the loft and the dog loved the open views.

Cottage is in a nice, easily accessible location not far from Huntsville. While not luxury, it has all the essentials and is a good value for the money. There was a fresh jug of water, firewood, and things like coffee, sugar, etc. when we arrived. We took full advantage of the barbeque grill and canoe, which was awesome to have. Check in & out was super easy with the lockbox. Having an infant with us, it was nice to have a sink in the loft bedroom and plenty of room for a pack and play. Also, very happy to be able to bring our dog with us.
Only minor complaints would be that the upstairs steps, as well as the hill to the lake, are steep and that the washroom is a bit dated. Water access is super easy, with a nice dock, and we were able to catch a bass fish from it! Unfortunately the mosquitos and black flies were quite intense, but that's to be expected in early June.
Overall, a very nice place and attentive host :)

We had a great stay. The cabin worked well with having two one year old. We were comfortable and there was a travel crib and baby gates.
We went on day trips to hit a beach for the little one and enjoyed the dock when the babes slept.
The host was always quick to answer questions and the listing was accurately described.

My wife, girls, and I loved our stay here. The plot of land was just far enough from Huntsville to provide the peace and quiet we needed, but close enough to stay stocked up and in touch. Close to Algonquin as well. Loved canoeing on Camp Lake and watching the stars from the dock.

Great place to reset!!
We had a wonderful relaxing few days at this beautiful lake retreat! Definitely the perfect cabin setting with basic amenities to get you by. Exactly what we were looking for, to be able to unwind, relax, and enjoy some downtime with just the two of us!

Not what we expected
We booked this property through Scott in early 2021 for our Honeymoon in mid-July for the week. The owner knew this. When we arrived not only were the neighbours just meters away, they are building a full cottage and the project was under construction with noise from 9-4 everyday, this was not mentioned. In addition, there were no sheets, pillows, towels, shampoo or soap, this we had to treck back into town for after a 4 hour drive. Although we expected the house would have a lived in feel, we didn’t expect it to be so dirty. I’ve since emailed the owner and to date have received no response. My friend has booked this property on my recommendation for September, I will be warning her of the above. I am shocked that people would do this to a couple on their honeymoon.

Beautiful lake and dock
We had a great stay at the cottage. The lake, newly installed dock, and lily pad made the trip. The owners were super communicative. The lake water was clean, clear, and full of minerals, great for the skin. The cottage is certainly rustic. The kitchen had everything we needed. We had fires in the fire pit and wood burning fireplace; and appreciated all the wood provided.

Perfect Retreat... 5 stars
My boyfriend and I stayed at this cottage 5 years ago, however I failed to review our stay. We had such a great experience the first time we had to come back.
The cottage is well maintained and I love the ‘lived in feel’ it brought along with the coziness of all the spaces. The loft bed is so comfortable, I found it hard to get up in the mornings.
Location is exactly what we are always looking for. Secluded surrounded by mature trees with a short walk to the water. The climb to and from the lake to cottage is pretty steep and could be a problem with someone that has knee issues. It was not an issue for us and didn’t mind the exercise.
We used the canoe daily for fishing, a nice amount of small mouth bass were caught and released.
We only went into town one day to buy more fishing lures as we had lost some fishing off the dock. There are giant trees in the lake off shore that is now home to an array of expensive lures.
The drive into Huntsville is about 30mins from the cottage but the 20 minute drive on Limberlost road is beautiful I can’t complain.
We have made new memories at this cottage this time around as my then boyfriend proposed on the deck with the picturesque view of the lake. It is definitely our favourite place both then and now.
Scott is a great host, always accommodating and prompt with his responses. Informative and ensures his guests are taken care of.
The only negative feedback I can give is the size of the dock spiders there. Besides some tears and a small panic attack when they decided to greet us it was the best vacation we have had just the two of us without our children.
I cannot speak more highly on both vacations we have had at Camp Lake. We will definitely return.
Thank you Scott!

Wonderful week away
My husband and I had a wonderful week away. This is a secluded cottage a bit off the beaten path with a private dock. You can see one other cottage from the property but there is a lot of privacy which is exactly what we were going for. The cottage can likely sleep 6 comfortably but we think it is perfect for one couple (with kids if you have them). It is kept tidy and as the owners use the cottage regularily, it feels very lived in and has most of the things you need. We spent our mornings drinking coffee in muskoka chairs on the deck, afternoons floating around on the water and nights by the campfire. I suggest bringing up a set of sheets, toilet paper, paper towels, towels, all your oils and spices and of course anything else you need. If you forget anything, town is not too far away. Bring lots of bug spray and a pair of water shoes if you have them. My husband asked me to book again for next year already!

Amazing getaway
Scott is a true host. Property was beautiful, cottage well maintained. The chance to swim, fish, canoe, watch VHS movies cannot be beat here. Town is nearby, about 35 minutes, Henrietta's bakery near Dorset is also worth the drive. Look forward to returning.

Algonquin wilderness experience but in a cottage!
Reviews posted are to date are accurate except drive to town is 45 minutes, not 20. But that's one of the things that what makes this place feel like you're away from it all. None of the reviews mention the amazing hiking at Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve, only a 20 minute drive. Hoping to book this place again next year.

Lovely setting and a well organized process.
When we first arrived we were impressed with the cottage and pleased with the setting. Since we love to canoe, the lake was perfect for long and leisurely excursions. The road to the cottage was easy so access was no problem.
However, since I have asthma we were unable to stay for the entire week since there was mildew on the baseboards inside the cottage. It was also starting to rain that would have made the issue worse.
We would recommend a serious cleaning to try to eliminate the mildew as the dampness of a cottage can make it worse over time.

Einfach super!

Authentic Muskoka
This cottage is a gem on a quiet lake deep in the Muskoka woods. A remote setting only 20 minutes to Huntsville for all the amenities you need. It was great fun exploring this cottage property and surrounds. It was just as expected when we booked this property from Australia.

Comfy, quiet and just the ticket.
We really enjoyed our stay at Camp Lake. What a beautiful quiet place to relax. I enjoyed many hours reading on the upper deck, looking out over the lake. We went canoeing a few times and explored the lake. Swimming off the dock was something I've looked forward to all summer :) We saw the loons and heard them calling out at night. How beautiful is that.
Must say the electricity was pretty dodgy - a lot of flickering, and then a 16-hour power outage at one point - which of course isn't Scott's fault, but does mean no water, no toilet and no light. I'd recommend throwing a camp stove into your trunk. Still, it got us playing boardgames by candlelight and that's a pretty great cottage experience in itself. Luckily your kind neighbor phoned Hydro and offered use of his camp stove. Also had some trouble getting out of the super steep driveway and finally had to make a low-gear run at it, which was exciting for the kids.
All in all, totally enjoyable. A real, proper Canadian cottage. Would happily return some day. Melissa & kids

A little slice of peace and quite
We stayed at this little cabin right on the water of Lake of Bays. Well treed property so there was extra privacy during our visit. The lake's water was crystal clear and possibly a good place to fish. Although canoes and life jackets were available, we brought our own SUP boards and it was very enjoyable paddling on the calm lake. We visited Huntsville which is a 20 minutes drive to watch the Euro Cup.
Barbecued almost every night and enjoyed breakfast with a family of little chipmunks, who enjoyed raspberries and were not shy about hopping on your lap.
Nice place to enjoy the outdoors for a couple or as a group.

Algonquin cottage gem!
This is our second time at this cottage. It is an excellent base to visit all of Algonquin. Camp Lake itself is very picturesque. The cottage is well supplied and the wood burning stove heats up the place in no time.
We'll be coming back here again the next time we visit the area.

EXCLUSIVE CAMP LAKE GETAWAY
We have been staying at this Camp lake rental for years now and the owners are very friendly and attentive. We used to try different places each year but when we came upon this one we stopped looking at alternatives. It's the best of both worlds; secluded yet accessible; reasonable yet sumptuous. If you run out of anything town is only a 30 minute drive. The main buildings are fairly new and very clean and comfortable. We love lounging out on the deck in the morning with a cup-o-Joe and having a bit of a camp fire 'weenie roast' in the evening. Canoeing, fishing and swimming are popular activities as well as taking strolls along the local roadways. All in all a FIVE STAR experience every time!

Wonderful week at Camp Lake
If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet and private get away this place it is. We had a wonderful week at camp lake with my husband and dog. The property is as described right on the lake and has a charming rustic interior and loft bedroom. Perfect for a couple (s) looking for a relaxing week away for the hustle & bustle of the city.
Note: as mentioned in the description the property is on a slope and may not be ideal for small children or older people with mobility issues.
