About this house rental
So idyllic it defies description – the best of both worlds in the prestigious Meadow View Heights in the West End. Nine acres of privacy and luxury in a pristine nature preserve overlooking Shank Painter Pond and Herring Cove, bordering the National Seashore. A renter's son said "The house is in the middle of nowhere and the edge of everything." Three minute bike ride or ten to 15 minute walk to Provincetown’s best restaurants with a path to Herring Cove Beach. Spectacular sunset views over the pond and ocean. Glorious views of water from every window – and two bedroom windows with views of Pilgrim’s Monument. Morning coffee on the side porch watching the birds and wildlife, cocktails on the front deck enjoying the sunset, luxuriating on the overstuffed furniture in the great room with soaring cathedral ceilings. Relax in this peaceful setting. Our home is beautifully appointed, gourmet kitchen, open floor plan, granite counters, large bedrooms, central a/c, wireless Internet, parking galore and dog friendly (must be approved by owner)! It doesn't get better than this.
A word about Shank Shank Painter Pond . . . It has been described as Provincetown's ecological crown jewel, containing the world's largest known quaking bog found on a barrier beach. Hawks, ospreys, and an array of rare fauna and flora are found in the Shank Painter Wildlife Sanctuary. Adjoining Clapps Pond is one of the largest freshwater wetlands in Provincetown, home to many seabirds, migratory birds, turtles, and river otters.

If you're looking for a secluded spot, yet close to PTown and walkable to the beach....this is it!!! Beautiful tranquil location. Can't wait to go again!!!

This is one of the most beautiful spots we have ever stayed. We held our intimate wedding reception here, and we could not have picked a better place. The pictures do not so this house justice. The rooms are spacious and the fire place is magnificent. The outdoor space is tranquil and the pond is so lovely and full of wildlife. We loved falling asleep to the frogs and crickets! The walk through the dunes to the beach is absolute magic, an easy ten minutes if you like exercise, longer but completely doable for those who prefer to stroll.
Janet and Steve are both lovely, and were so helpful and answered all of our ten million questions! ( Thank you both, I am sure we were annoying.)
This house will live in our memories forever as a very special place, and we hope to be able to return in the future.

This property surpassed our expectations: the feeling of isolation even though you were a mere mile from downtown; the well-appointed kitchen and lovely decor; the views out most windows of nature and ponds, and more. We spent the days exploring different beaches and hikes with our 18 - and 20-year old kids, and the evenings playing pool in the fantastic basement. Kids also appreciated that there were lots of running routes right out the door. Will definitely return!

Our family had a great time in this spacious home. The great room provided a wonderful spot for a marathon of board games, and the kitchen was well equipped for meal preparation for our large party. The location is spectacular, and lent itself to hikes through the dunes and daily jogs to town. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of shops and restaurants that were open in the off season and the welcome of our dog in many establishments.

1 Bayberry is such a precious place that one almost wants to fake a poor review just to keep the secret. But the reality is the opposite, 1 Bayberry is a "unicorn". It almost defies definition.
The walk to the beach through the dunes is otherworldly, as if your vacation was to Tatooine instead of Cape Cod and Herring Beach feels like your private getaway. Who are these people who drove there? The approach to the home takes your breath away and the alternate sunrise/sunset views of the private bogs with ducks, herons and other wildlife leaves the life you left behind as far off from your mind as you dreamed. All this and yet an easy peddle by bike to the restaurants, pier and shops lets you leave your keys in your bag.
The rooms afford distinct privacy and vantage points with a warm majestic center room where your friends and family comfortably join by the fireplace in the stone hearth. Night arrives, to the game room! Morning arrives, to the covered porch to sip hot coffee and tea on rocking chairs while the mist dissipates.
The hosts were amazing and super responsive when we accidentally set off the alarm (oops, sorry Steve and Janet, did not mean it!) The ONLY downside is that there will be an end to your time at 1 Bayberry. Could not give higher praise. Our stay was recent yet feels like a dream we had, one afternoon, long ago...

This property is a dream come true for anyone who loves the natural beauty of Provincetown and wants to pretend for a time to live there, surrounded by that beauty, with all the comforts of a graciously and tastefully appointed home. Part chalet, part log cabin, the atmosphere is warm and woody, beds comfy, lighting that adapts to any mood, stained glass accents that delight, a vaulted ceiling that is just plain awesome with a stone fireplace equally so. Big enough for extended families and/or friends, but a spacious retreat for me as a solo traveler. You can see the amazing sunset from the deck that squarely faces West.
Privacy ... Peace ... Pleasure ... Poetry. A place you want to return to ...

If you like feeling like you've got to the end of the earth....and yet you're just a short walk (< 1 mi) to the center of Provincetown - then this place may be for you.

House is really nice and the property is amazing! We loved the long driveway! We were really set back from the road! We contacted owners a couple times and they were very quick to reply!

My friends and I absolutely loved staying at the home. The owners responded to any questions we had within minutes. If you want a beautiful home with a beautiful view, this is the place!

This property was truly tucked away in the corner of town. It’s feels like no one knows you’re there, but you’re right next to them.
Overall, the property was amazing. Clean and so serene. The house was the most well stocked I’ve been to. I gave the accuracy of the listing 4/5 because the pictures don’t do it justice - it’s better in person. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We loved the privacy and location of this house. Great views of nature in every direction.

The cabin was big and beautiful as in the pictures! The location was definitely beautiful and quiet, great for a serene getaway. The location was not far from the closest part of town, but to the end of town was a bit far to walk. Would definitely recommend using the rentable scooters or bikes if you’re not bringing a car. Regardless, the hosts were very responsive and the house was everything you could hope for!

This property is gorgeous, yet located close to town. It's spacious and comfortable (the beds are super comfortable), and ideal for a group stay.
You must take a walk on the path near the house to Herring Cove Beach. You will meander through the sand dunes and marshes and find your way to this beautiful, interesting beach. This was one of the highlights of our stay!

Absolutely loved our winter stay here. I can’t imagine a more perfect location. Sits up on a bluff overlooking the marshes. Gorgeous sunsets, beautiful sunrises. Huge working fireplace that we made good use of. Nice supply of well dried wood just outside. Close to town, close to the beaches and dunes. Very comfortable and well-equipped home. Enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend.

This is a property that I wouldn't mind owning myself! Very private, very well laid out, very attractive/upscale (you get what you pay for, of course!) We saw a coy-wolf on the deck one day (beware those of you bringing pets/children!) Loved the fireplace and pool table/ping pong table for November evenings which begin early. Very functional kitchen, as I was able to cook all meals, including Thanksgiving dinner.

Had a great 4-night stay with a group of friends. House is great and in-line with expectations set by pictures. Location is ideal for those looking to be just slightly outside the center of Ptown (short drive or a pleasant walk). Strongly recommend!

Most incredible location in Provincetown!
Large log cabin well stocked and beautifully maintained. No other houses in sight, just beautiful salt marshes and fabulous sunsets!

Having stayed in many places in Ptown over the years this is our favourite home. A little bit off the beaten track offers lots of space both indoors and out for a large group to enjoy yet still less than 5 mins on your bike to Commercial.

We had a wonderful time at Janet and Steve’s home. The house itself is wonderful, well equipped and comfortable for our group of six. The quiet and secluded location was equally wonderful. Dinner on the back deck watching the sunset was a truly magical experience. We hope to stay again!
The only minor downside is the fourth sleeping area in the basement, which has no windows. The bed is comfortable and the lack of light was OK for us but just something to be aware of.

Although only a five minute drive from central Provincetown, this home feels a million miles away. It’s on a small hill with NO other structures visible, just vistas of a pond in the National Seashore with lily pads, herons, and one morning two coyotes. The house was designed with decks on two sides — one with rocking chairs, the other wider with chaise longues and a dining table — so you can choose your preferred view for morning coffee or sunset cocktails.
Inside, it’s artfully furnished with three spacious and light bedrooms, and a fourth windowless bedroom next to the downstairs game room that would be suitable for a teen or flexible adult. The master bedroom and living room/dining room have fantastic pond views.
The “great room” provides welcoming space to dine, play games, or chat as a group. Yet the house also has a variety of semi-private spaces — a small sitting loft overlooking the great room, a sun room, the two decks, a game room — so people can easily enjoy alone time with a book or their computer. The kitchen was VERY well equipped with dishes, nonstick cookware, spices and gadgets. (The only thing missing was a lobster pot and nutcrackers: bring your own if you want to cook lobster.)
It is a 15-minute walk along a “secret” trail of woods and dunes to Herring Cove Beach! Or bike out the door and in a couple of minutes join the bike trail through the National Seashore.
All told, this was one of the most beautiful and memorable rental homes we’ve ever stayed at. For us, it was a “splurge” — but well worth it and a visit we will always remember.

Great house with beautiful views, especially at sunset. Very spacious, no tripping all over each other here. Would definitely stay again if we come back to Provincetown with a large group.
Specifics:
Main floor has the main living space (open plan living room/dining room/kitchen), the large primary bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and a half bath. There's also a screened in sun room (we didn't use that since it was 90 degrees outside) and a great deck looking out over the pond. Kitchen is definitely well-equipped, if you can't find what you're looking for just keep looking. It's probably there somewhere.
The upper floor has two large bedrooms and the second full bath, plus a small sitting area looking out the huge windows and over the main floor living area.
The basement has a game room (pool table), the fourth bedroom, and the garages. As some reviews have mentioned, the bedroom is comfortable but a little awkward location with the pool table right outside the french doors and the bathrooms upstairs.
The host is very responsive and communicative, she warned us the day before the mosquito treatment contractor was coming and replied to any questions we had right away.
About the mosquitos, we also spoke to the town (or county) mosquito control guy since he also visited the property during our stay and mentioned how much treatment he had done in the area. Despite all that, mosquitos will still be present. We brought area repellents for the deck and used the sprays provided for our walks into town and that kept everything under control.
The deck has plenty of chairs and was a great gathering spot in the morning for coffee and in the afternoon before heading into town for dinner.
It's a 20-30 minute walk into town, depending upon where you're headed. If you want to walk to Herring Cove once you know the way that's about 15 minute walk. It took us a little longer, but we got a little turned around and didn't go directly to the beach.
We had a great time in Provincetown, and where we stayed was a big part of that.

Once again we had a wonderful stay!
We had an amazing time at this clean and wonderful log home - this was our second stay here. It is the perfect location. You are so close to the beach and town yet also have so much privacy and in a relaxing and beautiful location. It is just perfect!

An excellent, private vacation
The host, Janet, was incredibly communicative throughout the year we awaited to begin our vacation (yes, we booked a year in advance!), as well as during our trip. The location is a bit far from downtown than other properties, but is really only a short bike ride away. I definitely got my exercise in, and the neighborhood was gorgeous to ride through. The property itself was large and comfortably fit all 8 of us (we did double up in our beds). The property was also incredible, private, and every inch was beautiful, including the sprawling landscapes of which we had views from each window and deck/porch. The amenities (A/C, grill, kitchen supplies) were as-advertised and working. I would happily book with this property again.

My family and I had a great weekend here. Janet was super responsive to our messages. It made us feel very welcomed and tended to. We had the cabin all to ourselves in the proximity of the nice landscape that we explored. We really enjoyed our time here with the view, the fresh air and all cape cod has to offer.

Beautiful house and property as described. Hard to believe a property has that much privacy with a location that close to Provincetown. The owner was very responsive with any issue we had. A great rental.

The place was beautiful inside and out. Cozy and spacious at the same time. A spectacular location with a beautiful walk to the beach. Great cooking supplies and cooking space. It was a great reunion spot for our family of young adult kids. It may be helpful to know that soundproofing between rooms - up and down and on the same level - is pretty minimal if that matters to you. It wasn’t a problem for us (made for some good “watch what you say” jokes) but may be useful to others. We loved it and highly recommend!

Beautiful fall stay
The cabin was absolutely gorgeous, bigger than the pictures showed. We enjoyed the privacy of the grounds, but also being so close to town. Never knew we could find the rustic elegance of the autumn foliage surrounding a log cabin but the beach and Ptown life steps away! Highly recommend!

My family needed a place to stay for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding in Provincetown. This house was perfect!! It was very comfortable and spacious. The views were amazing. Close to all the engagements we were attending over the weekend. My son hosted his groomsmen at the house the morning of the wedding. It was all we hoped for and great for pictures. I only wish we had planned to spend more time there to relax and fully enjoy the views. Would definitely rent again.

Right from the get go I knew this was going to be a great stay. Janet & Steve (who I had the pleasure to meet as we were packing up) were responsive to all my questions. I was the 1st to arrive and to say I was bowled over is an understatement. The minute I started the drive up the road I knew I was in for something special - but whenever I came around the last bend and saw the garden & house I just had to stop and stare. I thought I must have taken a wrong turn and ended up in the mountains of Vermont. The house is spectacular and the setting is so private and quiet. Exactly what I was looking for when I was there by myself for a few days. The friends and family who stayed were all posting pictures on Facebook and boy were there a lot of envious people. I was there for my niece's wedding at the Provincetown Inn and many of the guests staying there had to come by and see it for themselves. My sister (mother of the bride) came out early and spent Wednesday with me. She said we should have had the wedding there - deck and rear yard would have been perfect and with the sunset - who could ask for more. The kitchen was so well equipped that I ended up cooking more meals than expected instead of dining out. And there are an awful lot of restaurants I had planned on trying. Oh well - next time.
If you're a sun person - there was plenty of that and for those that prefer to lounge in the shade with a good book - the front porch was ideal. And for the one day it rained for a bit - the enclosed porch was a cool and breezy place to sit and hang out. Fortunately there was an evening or two when it was cool enough to use the fireplace and we're glad we did. The stonework itself is an amazing work of art - the fire only emphasized its' beauty.
The bedrooms are huge - the beds very comfortable and plenty of blankets and quilts if needed. I'm very particular about my pillows and I didn't even have to take mine out of the bag. Ceiling and floor fans in every room for those that prefer fresh air. House has central AC for those days where it might be really hot - but there was always a breeze the 10 days I was there.
If you're looking a for a place to get away with friends for a reunion, overflow for wedding guests or just to be somewhere that just feels 'right' - stay here.
PS: I happen to see a picture of a picture of Janet & Steve's property in Costa Rica. I see a trip to Central America in my future with a few lucky friends.
