Very friendly owner and his wife - made us very welcome. We were the only 2 guests that evening, so it was beautifully quiet. A1 for hospitality. Dinner was excellent.
The prices of the room, dinner and breakfast were very high for accommodation such as this. It cost the 2 of us £364 for one night. This was excessive IMHO. Breakfast was of poor quality considering the price charged.

I was in the self catering unit so I didn’t have breakfast
There is nothing that could have been better.

What a beautiful spot. We enjoyed the whole experience from the owners welcome, beautiful well appointed room, fantastic dinner and breakfast. Steve & Sarah couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. I wish we could spend more time in this wonderful place.
The wifi was a bit spotty and didn't seem to work in our room, but that's just a first world problem!

Very friendly welcome. Best nights sleep ever followed by an amazing breakfast using the finest ingredients.

perfect weekend stay. The self catering apartment was spotless and generous in size. The views are incredible and the pool was just the icing on top. we had an afternoon with it to ourselves! The landscaping is also beautiful, with well cared for flowers. I saw more birds than I have seen in years. Just a lovely stay.
Only minor inconvenience was the WiFi, it isn’t brilliant and there is no signal. But it didn’t worry us for the weekend.

Breakfast and location unbeatable. Stunning plot and surroundings; a pool too. Benson always ready for some ball retrieval. Nice walks from the property; with a swim to finish the day.
Water quality poor; a filter jug would improve things. Bed a little soft for me, but that is just a personal preference.

The location was breath-taking and easily found following the helpful instruction offered by the host.
the surrounding area was a delight with plenty of opportunity to walk and visit deserted beaches despite the holiday crowds of Devon.
The hosts offered a very warm welcome, with comfort to sit and enjoy the views from the garden, the pool water being warm enough to enjoy a swim and the tennis court offering a chance of a casual game.
The breakfast and dinner offered a good menu choice, served with attention to current covid precautions.
We will certainly keep this Country House Hotel on our "to visit again" list!!!
We were a last minute booking during the high summer season so had to take the last available room which was small with no view of the beautiful country surrounding. The bed was comfortable but too small - however, we were assured that plans are in hand to extend the room and bring it up to the same standard as the others - so hopefully even if we make a late booking in the future we will enjoy a bigger bed!!

Staff very friendly, room clean and tidy, cleaned daily. Ample water and coffee. Stunning location, with outside swimming pool and sun loungers. Parking on site, 4 miles from Sidmouth. Excellent location and experience, would definitely recommend

Despite initial concerns i.e. high extra cost of breakfast these were soon vanquished on arriving and during our stay. Photos of the hotel itself dont really do it justice. Its a gem of a place. The hotel looks freshly painted, clean, and the setting/ location is stunning. The hotel is set amongst verdant, rolling Devon hills with lovely, open views across the Sid river valley. The owners (Steve and Sarah) were professional, welcoming, friendly, relaxed and amenable; helping you feel right at home. Nothing seemed too much trouble. The pool is kept at just kept at the right temperature so its possible to swim in most weathers. We used it a couple of times during a 3 day stay, which wasnt always hot or sunny. The pool is set in a lovely garden with lots of pool/garden seating to relax in, when the weather allows. Our standard room was upgraded when we asked, with no fuss, to a garden view room room (No3). The room and bathroom were large, great shower and very comfortable, with huge bed and outside balcony (shared) with lovely views. The hotel was kept extremely well kept and very clean. The breakfast was superb; A virtual banquet, every sitting, including a buffet of the best quality food with really huge choice of top quality fruits cereals, honey, cheese, cereals, yogurts, juices and fruit. You could then have great choice of freshly cooked hot breakfast. I dont usually have kippers but decided to try and like a gentleman guest said before me they were the best he and then Id ever eaten! The hotel is also in easy reach of the the coast with great walks and places to visit.
Its not something we didnt like we just wondered why such a huge choice for the breakfast buffet - possibly to justify the extra high cost of £20 each. It was justified re: high quality and immense choice but we (assumed only) that so much choice might be wasted. So just a comment to perhaps lower the price of breakfast a little (so potentially not putting potential guests off) so providing bit less buffet choice therefore providing slightly more reasonable extra cost for the breakfast. Again its not something we didnt like but think photo's of the hotel, and surrounds, need to be updated/of better quality on websites where its advertised and i.e especially of the wonderful breakfast, grounds etc
