Great overnight stop from Portsmouth ferry travelling north, would also be a good weekend base.

Nice motel-style cabins in the courtyard of the pub - pub was open for food when we arrived at 9pm, for which many thanks! And food, including breakfast, was good. The staff in the pub were friendly and helpful.

It was raining hard, and there's a quick dash in the open air from cabin to pub. Take an umbrella! Otherwise, all was more than satisfactory. Breakfast service was a bit on the slow side, but the quality was fine.

Lovely, warm, comfortable and welcoming place to stay with good food options, loads of outside space

Always a lovely welcome and relaxed staff. Cosy and friendly. Great location for me. Dinner always good.

Plumbing is sometimes an issue - ie plugs in basins not always working, shower going off at random angles. Not enough to spoil the stay though.

quirky comfort

The rooms are set around a themed paddock-style seating area for the pub, which each room just a few steps from the pub iteself, and set-back with their own terrace - if you wanted to sit out in the sun and enjoy a drink. Each had a stable-door, fitting in with the theme. It gave the area a quirky feel that we liked. The room itself had everything needed, comfy bed, good lighting, quiet, comfortable, hair dryer, good bathroom stocked with soaps and shampoos.

The TV was very slow, and couldn't load freeview channels, but it did have access to iplayer and other streaming services.

Modern cosy rooms at a vibrant pub / restaurant

Bar staff, only one member on at our arrival and seemed to be occupied by dealing with many things, therefore experienced waiting around not only on arrival but at service throughout late afternoon early evening.

Very good

We were very pleased with the room. The bed was very comfortable, the room was warm and the shower worked well. I appreciated the lighting, subtle lighting at the bedside was excellent. Nice decor with tea/coffee facilities.

Our only complaint during our stay, we felt let down by poor service from 2 members of staff in the restaurant. We were left by a waitress in the restaurant whilst she went to check if we could change tables, she reappeared 15 mins later ( we just decided to move ourselves ) to ask us if we wanted a drink by which time we had ordered from the bar. She continued by bringing the wrong subsequent drinks, not bringing water to the table and generally no personal service to us. Breakfast was a disappointing experience apart from the cooked breakfast which was excellent. The service was very poor and I can only think it wasn’t the member of staffs fault as she clearly lacked training. We wouldn’t return to The Running Horse but only because of the service and not the accommodation.
