Location excellent, you can see the history (in a good way) in the building. The rooms are well appointed comfortable and clean and our standard double room was at the quite end of the hotel, so a definite bonus!
Breakfast and evening meals were very good in the restaurant and a special mention to the ever cheerful Jules in the mornings.
Staff were all friendly, efficient, helpful and willing to go that extra bit further, as in our case the car broke down and was not ready to leave when we were supposed to. We managed to get an extension of two days, no mean feat just before the beginning of the school holidays, so a big thank you to the reception staff for arranging that and fielding the phone calls from the garage.
Oh, did I mention the bar? A splendid country bar and when the fire is lit, it is the perfect antidote to a wet and windy day (or evening).
Not having the car, but there is plenty to do within walking distance - although not everything (museum) was open in the village prior to Easter, there is certainly a lot of walking in and around the castle.

Check in at 2pm is earlier than most! We were upgraded to a Superior Room and were delighted with it! Fantastic huge and comfy bed, fridge and a lovely bathroom with a view! Made our stay really special and we will certainly return!
Parking could have been an issue but we were lucky and got a space almost opposite. Dinner bookings only available 7.45 or later as they were busy - we would have preferred earlier but it wouldn’t stop us staying again as all else so great!

Friendly reception staff. Lovely ambiance in a variety of communal rooms. Good food menu. Great promity to village & castle. Great base from where to explore local area
Other staff within hotel weren't over friendly. Bedroom was too hot. Pillows were too soft and duvet tog too much for mild weather

The ambiance and style of the hotel was excellent, it was ideally located and the staff were friendly and helpful
The food in the restaurant could have been better, it was delivered to the table with under cooked vegetables and was not hot enough
