The hosts were very nice and helpful, the breakfasts and dinners were delicious, honestly the amount was a bit too much for me to eat! The location is very good, although we did travel with car. Bonus archery lesson with the owner was definitely a great experience, it might become my new hobby now! Highly recommend!
Sure the building is quite old and might now be perfectly clean, the onsen facilities are also worn down, but it’s just something that you should have in mind when booking your trip, not really a bad things, at least for us.

Miyasaka (the innkeeper) was very kind and helpful. As mentioned in previous comments, he drove us to the base of the walk to the monkey park. This is quite kind, in my opinion. He also made suggestions for places to eat and visit, and provided the forecast suggesting we go to see the monkeys the day of arrival rather than the following day (which ended up raining all day).
He was also generous enough to do a demonstration of the Japanese Archery, despite feeling off due to his recent COVID-19 vaccination.
It was a great walking town. Very beautiful. The Inn is older which made it feel like a genuine experience (rather than something prepped for show). My mother (70’s) and I truly enjoyed it.
Many businesses in the area were closed, making it hard to find a place to eat before 11am.

Great ryokan very close to the train station and pretty close to the snow monkey park. The best thing about it though is its owner, a very kind and welcoming person who invested a lot of time and effort to make our stay exceptional. I'd also like to mention the beautiful authentic hot springs tub and the delicious breakfast, the best we had in Japan in fact.
I liked everything as all was as expected, or even better. Be prepared that it's an old and quite large ryokan, so there's some dust here and there, it's not sparkly clean in the hall for example. The room and restrooms were very clean though.

The breakfast was delicious and very traditional. Plenty of it too! The onsen was exactly what I needed and the traditional rooms made my stay very memorable. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The bonus ride to the monkey park was fantastic!!!

Delicious breakfast, and the recommended local bars and restaurants were very welcoming and good value for money. The host drove us to the snow monkeys in the morning, and made sure we knew how to get back.

the location, a short stroll to train st and combi store , the proprietor Kazu-san & his sister Mayumi are the most welcoming hosts , the rooms r quaint and authentic, the views out the hallway windows of the five peaks epic , oh yeah I didn’t even mention how great the onsen is , and I’ve been in plenty of onsen
can’t fault it

A wonderful place to stay and highly recommended. The inn is very traditional, clean and has its own onsen. The Japanese breakfasts were delicious and different each day. One of the main reasons I stayed for 5 days was to practice Kyudo as Uotoshi Ryokan has its own dojo and Miyasaka San is both the Ryokan owner as well as the dojo master. Each day Miyasaka San offered 2-4 hours of Kyudo lessons and he also allowed me to join his local Kyudo club on Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening. The dojo is simply magnificent surrounded by sugi trees with a carp pond in the middle from which a stream runs underneath the dojo. Miyasaka San is a wonderful host, very knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. I can’t wait until my next visit.

Wonderful experience. The room was very nice. We enjoyed the onsen, which is available 24/24. The breakfast was excellent. The most amazing was the Kyūdō demonstration. We were even able to try it too. We could stay with our dog without any problem.
It would be nice to have a drawer for the clothes.

Master very friendly and helpful, old-fashioned nice bath. Very much old-Japan.
I like it, My second time there. I will come again.

Very nice.
An old Japanese house, full of charm and old things,..even archery.,
and a traditional (oldfashioned) bath.
I liked it and I am sure, people who want to experience Japan will like it.
The measter spaeaks very good English.
The room partitions are a little thin, noisy neighbours will be a nuisance,
Please take care!

This Ryokan is fantastic. The room was so large and comfortable. The location was wonderful, very close to the station. The staff was so friendly and helpful (and everyone spoke english).

Upon arrival, we noticed our names written on the outside welcome board - such a nice touch and a warm welcome from the friendly owners of this ryokan. The room was spacious and we loved having the kotatsu (a low, wooden table frame covered by a blanket, with a heat source underneath). Very comfortable futons to sleep on as well. The owners were kind and helpful and speak perfect English. This is a pet-friendly property - hard to find in the area.

The owner was very nice and was very accommodating for our cat. The onsen is old, but comfortable and I had a great nights sleep. Also, a lot of interesting antiques to have a look at. When we stay here again my wife and I want to try the archery.

Very friendly owner, good location.
Though the ryokan has its spirit, it's well worn and in need for renovation.
