The place was amazing. The pools, the view, the whole set up, the room, gym, general amenities as all the Mandarin Hotels where insane
The service however was not up to the standards of a 5 star mandarin oriental hotel.
No one in the hotel was able to communicate in English, that I understand it’s difficult in china but you would not expect that in a hotel like the Mandarin
There were a few events during the weekend on the hotel and the next day all the aftermath of the events was scattered around the main areas for hours.
The cleaning of the room was deficient with some stains under the bed and there was a bag of leaves just left at our front door for a few hours.
We ordered room service and it took them 3 visitors to get some water and ice over to our room bc of the English.
And on top of that when we had to leave the hotel they were unable to arrange any sort of taxi or pick up to the airport so we had to walk all the way to the main city center in order to get a cab there..
4.5
The pool though there are two and the other was under maintenance. The breakfast buffet is awesome! The Cantonese hainanese restaurant was also very good.
The snorkelling was quite nice too as the hotel has a protected coral beach - though a bit costly.
In the general area very nice resort setup and not too inconvenient to get into town via taxi.
No shelves in the shower for personal toiletries. No clothes line in the toilet. The drawers in the room kept sliding out for no reason I.e. old mechanism not well maintained.
Most importantly we had a child and the balcony sliding doors had no child safety lock (unlike the other hotel in Sanya we stayed at).
Lastly, according to the resort map beach had a designated swimming area but in reality it wasn’t marked out and the actual person at the beach said swimming wasn’t allowed… which for a beach resort is pretty ridiculous.

Breakfast , pool and facilaties were great

Love the location. It’s close enough to the tourist area to easily get to, yet quiet when you want. The sunset bar has gorgeous views, a beautiful breeze, and delicious drinks.

Everything
poor knowledge of English for majority of the hotel staff

The location is the best I have been in Sanya. The hotel is beautifully arranged. All staff very friendly, addressed me by name without having met me before. Very attentive.

location, amazing pool, great food, hidden gem, private and quietness. staff was very helpful, providing us with the room we wanted, and helped us to book another room with a garden which we appreciated a lot
a lot of bug bites, very itchy and red, we got like 20 bites each, we had a few horrible night of sleep… it’s common for sure with such high humidity and the tropical set up but it really made a dent in the perfect holiday. not sure what could have been done though.

The hotel is very clean, stuff is friendly, great spa, delicious breakfast, professional managers. in general I like the hotel very much
it is forbidden to swim in the sea, it is very disappointed as I’m a huge fan of the sea

The environment is good, water very clear, and the restaurants are really nice
The room service is really slow. For everything we need, we had to call them twice to get it delivered. The first call always got ignored. Also, I wrote to them about our anniversary and they agreed to provide some arrangement, but nothing was delivered in the end. Very disappointed with the service quality for a renowned brand.

nobody speak English!!! ridiculous for a 5 stars luxury hotel

The landscape of the resort with all the plants and the laberynth of pools set into it is absolutely stunning. you could easily swim to a spot in the shade under one of the palm trees at any time, -an important design feature. The temperature controlled infinity pool was amazing, with a nice breeze and a zen view of the South China Sea. Other than in Thailand it is probably one of the most beautiful resorts I've ever been to, you really feel like you are somewhere exotic & can really wind down. Breakfast was great and you could roll up at 10.30 and casually take stuff and the staff would leave everything out for you -no panic rush to clean up. With their variety of fruits yogurts & greek salads and cold cuts & the nice expresso the nice girl made for me everyday, it very often turned into a lazy brunch.. The evening bbq was good with surprisingly fantastic sushi, but a little excessive, most nights I would opt for the starters at Fresh, -awesome tuna & scallops etc. (and bread and butter) & listen to the cool Philippine band above at the bar. Thanks Alex on reception that help with anything super fast, but also I think some credit needs to go to the army of people taking care of this place that go quietly unseen, the gardeners, housekeeping I never saw or heard so nice, buggy drivers on demand etc. Cheers! They had a nice quiet fitness centre too to hide from the 2pm heat, oh, and the massage with the precious metal bowl, -unbelievable..
Not much. Sometimes 4pm -6pm turns into a bit of a paparazzi gang jumping around & dress parade along the font edge.. * I wish they had a rewards or points system so much, I would go more..

The closeness to the Ocean was amazing and you usually do not have in Sanya! The three different pools offer an amazing experience!
For the price the food and the service was not so good. If the food in the restaurants would be a little bit cheaper I would be ok but the quality did not live up to the price.

location on Sanya. fabulous facilities. some wonderful staff
there wasn’t a range of vegetarian meals in the restaurants

MA Sanya has an incredible location, own beach, distinctive and nice pools as well as by far the best gardens in Sanya
Relax Pool (at Noodle Bar) not cleaned and also closed as well as the general prices in Sanya (not only MA) getting astronomic

The expectations of the Mandarin Oriental were by far exceeded. The hotel staff was very friendly, helpful and quick when asked for support or to provide some information, The English speaking proficiency was very good, most of the associates could speak English in a way that we could communicated easily. The SPA experience was great. The ambience lovely, the staff friendly and everything very clean. The big choice of wonderful pools with different charming aspects has over exceeded our expectations. The quality of food, e.g. our Christmas dinner, was worth every RMB and was a great value for money. The ambience of the Sunset Bar including the great and very delicious cocktails gave us a very nice sun downer every day. Our summary: we will come again this year, please stay as you are!
The service at the pool was very friendly and helpful but unfortunately had to suffer from a partly very slow kitchen service. After giving a short feedback to the food & beverage management they immediately tried to fix the issues, so really very helpful again.
The only topic which is really a pity is that we may not take a swim in the ocean due to the regulations. Snorkeling is very nice, but not the same as swimming in the ocean and enjoying the waves in the water.

Swimming pool
So noisy. Old buildings. Can hear everything neighbours did. After midnight still noisy. Not relaxing holiday

The attention to customer service is impeccable! Pool, beach, breakfast and beyond! We had an instance where a couple was creating a commotion in a neighboring room for a few days - no fault of the hotel - the management navigated the situation and ensured we had an even better room at the end of it! This quiet oasis is a must when traveling to Sanya! If raining, the spa is also a shout! I had my first mom-to-be massage and I could have gone everyday it was so phenomenal! Can't wait to go back (again!)
Swimming in the beach (freely) has been shut down due to coral preservation - that being said - you can swim down the end snorkeling (at a fee) if you wish + there are ample pools in the hotel which are beautiful and cater to everyone (single, couples, families, etc).

The location is amazing. It is near the city center, but is so hidden from the crowd and noise. Great vacation feel, sometimes we felt we were traveling in Southeast Asia.
The facilities are not as new and modern as other luxurious hotels

Few places are able to find the perfect harmony between location, service, facilities and overall experience. The MO Sanya has done this in outstanding fashion. Led by a truly experienced gentleman of the industry, Mihai and his team go above and beyond every single day to make the MO Sanya a true paradise on earth. From the ambience to the selection of restaurants and activities, there really is no need to look elsewhere if you are planning a trip to Sanya. This is simply the best.

We were upgraded and could enjoy the villas, very nice gesture from the staff.
Few English speakers in the staff which is a surprise for such hotel.
Beautiful gardens and view.
Restaurant Fresh is very delicious
4.0
The F&B staff is excellent - they do try hard to give you a personalized experience. tried all the restaurants and was satisfied with the level of service and the food quality. The breakfast staff remembered us and our preferences which was very much appreciated. We liked the sunset dining BBQ and the staff was very attentive there as well. we went several times to Sunset bar and also enjoyed a lot this experience. a bottle was a bit old and they agreed to open a new one, which was nice. they also serve you all kind of snacks while drinking. and there is live music. the Chinese restaurant set is of good value.
the beach is rocky but still swimmable. the pools are great, both adults and active pools. there is a fun slide at the pool too. its huge and not many people actually use it. same for the beach, you'll probably be alone swimming most of the time
Gym is nice + sauna which was enjoyable during rainy days. also have badminton and pingpong court.
spotted some wildlife - not so common in Sanya !
proximity to downtown is a plus to check other food outlets in town.
Stop treating your guests at the beach like kids - I don't like being stopped while at the swim at the snorkeling part of the beach because 'its dangerous' or 'rocky'. Beach guys not friendly at the snorkeling side. Maybe Chinese people don't like personal responsibility but pls don't treat westerners like kids at the beach - its very very very annoying.
Food prices are high / prices do not necessarily always reflect the quality of the food.
Operations at the phone too slow - needs hours for simple things at times. just getting a bottle of water in the room was a hassle.
soundproof is not good, you can sometimes hear quite well your neighbors
Equipments in the room need some improvement - its a rather old hotel if you compare it to others in Sanya in term of modern amenities. For instance, they do not even have a coffee machine - which is probably not even worth half the room price for a day. its not 1995, everyone drinks coffee in china now.
finance is chaotic to get the bill amount right - a bit awkward during checkout.
also too bad the cigar lounge /jazz bar is closed.

The resort is overall very quiet with lush greeneries. The room is under the shade of palm trees and is almost on the beach.
The beach is long and beautiful. Everyday we went snorkeling in the morning and relaxing in the pool in the afternoon. For dinner, the beachfront restaurant Fresh has a great sunset view and the best menu in Sanya. The staffs were very professional and very responsive to our requests. Great thanks to Mihai, Ben, Chloe and everyone. We had a very pleasant vacation here.
While snorkeling, we saw some people feeding fish with sausages

I liked the pools and the breakfast. The village is very clean, pools are very well designed (the water is very warm though), the landscape is beautiful, rooms and aircon are very quiet.
While the breakfast was delicious, the other restaurants did not meet my expectations. I just cannot wrap my head around why food has to be that expensive. Another aspect which could be improved is the English proficiency of the staff.
4.0
Nice and quiet environment. Generally very friendly service, special thanks to Mihai. Food from room service was good. Good breakfast. Not too many people in the swimming pools.
Small gekkos and cockroaches in room (I understand that it’s a tropical place). Water leak in room so we had to call the maintenance in the evening. Some swimming pools were closed. Slow check-in and check-out. Got food poisoning after eating in the seafood buffet (of course I can’t know was it for the buffet or something else).
4.5
Nice location. Nice view from my room.
Room Pick up service was a little slow.
4.0
The location is very good.
Overall, the hotel is good. However, the car pick-up service was a little bit slow, and then the attitude of the attendant was a bit slow. The location is very good. Room hygiene needs to be improved, especially bedding. I always feel a little unclean. There's a lot of hair on it.
4.0
Great private beach front location. Quiet, relaxing and peaceful. The roofed open-air bar is a great location to chill and enjoy a drink with snacks.
Breakfast could be a bit more varied, but was good otherwise. On-location evening dining options were either overbooked or overpriced or both. The pool and beach front service could be better. Don’t expect anyone to ask you if you wish to order a drink or snacks, let alone deliver these conveniences to you. But otherwise the staff were super friendly and professional. In spite of these shortcomings, I would come again.
4.5
Very nice resort, very nice staff. Feels like you're travelling outside of China.
