A two night stay in the town of Almaden to visit the mine. Very comfortable room. I was met by the host, Jose Antonio, at appointed time and shown the room, Indeed the host upgraded my room. A lovely building with a great charm very much supported by the host's continuing attention to detail. A light but good breakfast each morning. The host was also able to garage my car for the two days

This Hotel is located relatively close to the center of Almaden, with a quick walk you can easily get around town, but it's also pretty easy to go by car, not a lot of fuss to park so it's dealer's choice; when you arrive at the hotel you are surprised by an almost immersive experience: the classic renaissance decoration brings you back to the 19th century, and you truly feel like you're experiencing how kings and queens lived back in the day. All the details from the reception, to the interior patio to the rooms are exquisite so if you're a history geek you will love it here! The only thing more impressive than the decoration is the flawless way Jose Antonio takes care of his guests, very attentive and always available for anything you need while still respecting your space and time; breakfast is very typical Spanish, with toasts with butter and jam, or minced tomato with olive oil, there's also spongy cake, fruit and yogurts.
Lastly, but not less important, we visited with 38 C degrees in heat, but even without air conditioning this hotel remains fresh (there's ceiling fans, but we didn't need them) inside which was a very nice surprise too!
The only thing that we missed during our stay were a few commodities in the room, we didn't have a table or garbage bin - the only garbage is in the bathroom - also no mini bar (though you can probably ask the owner if you need to keep something fresh in the kitchen) - and only one couch, so if you go with friends it's not super comfy to hang out in the room.
Also during summer the wasp population is quite abundant - though I must say Jose Antonio tried to hunt down all the wasps so I could enjoy my breakfast :)

Gorgeous building, manager couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Upgraded as waited 10 mins to get in which wasn't an issue. Lovely breakfast room. Secure covered parking, perfect for the motorbike.

This a fantastic 16th century house, beautifully restored and cared for. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Our host was brilliant. The dining room is wonderful.
Theres no tv, but that's in keeping with the ambiance of the house.

The hotel was decorated very tastefully, and the owner was very attentive. We visited the old mercury mine (heritage site) and the hotel was just a couple of minutes walk away.
When we arrived the owner said he was going to upgrade us to a bigger room, which was really lovely and had its own private patio. So we were very pleased.
The breakfast was really nice and laid out in a large room with a massive table, and Linen napkins, and fresh organge juice and coffee served by the owner.
Maybe a small fridge i the room would have allowed visitors to have their own cold drinks available throughout the day, as there was no bar available.

So much history in this building and the town!

One of the most special and interesting places we have ever stayed in. The bedroom (and bathroom) was large, comfortable and surprisingly warm (for such an old building). Amazing! The host / hotelier is understandably very proud of this unique place to stay and is very helpful. Breakfast was served in an very impressive room and was very good.
It is situated on a narrow road so luggage has to be quickly dropped outside but parking is only about 150m away.

We loved the building itself and the ambience of the rooms. The host is the most courteous gentleman. He is very knowledgeable and kept us enthralled with his tour of the place and its importance in the history of the town and the colonies Spain obtained gold and silver from. And, breakfast was delicious and in a charming dining area.

We endorse all the glowing and well deserved reviews that this hotel has received and it was a privilege to stay in such a historic property. We chose it for it´s location, a 5 minutes walk to the entrance of the decommissioned mercury mine that we had come to see, but we did not expect to have such a luxurious and interesting stay and meet such a delightful host. Thank you Jose Antonio, we shall be recommending the Conde Fucares to all our friends and family.

This is an amazing place! A beautifully and lovingly restored historical building with the most welcoming and informative host you could imagine. Almaden is well worth a visit, especially for the fascinating mercury mines, and I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

We completely loved our stay here, Antonio was a charming host, he is a wealth of information about Almaden which he generously and enthusiastically shares. We’ve travelled extensively throughout Spain and this house really is the best we’ve ever stayed at, it has been beautifully restored and Antonio is so welcoming. We stayed in ‘Cervantes’ room which was incredible, it was so characterful, spotlessly clean, with a sloping beamed ceiling and huge beds, sumptuously comfortable, it was cosy and warm on a cold March night with central heating, the sweetest en suite bathroom, I could rave on and on about this magical place and award well in excess of 10 stars! Breakfast was adapted at short notice to accommodate our vegetarian diet, with freshly squeezed orange juice and fabulous coffee, sweet home made cake, jams and toast, all really thoughtfully prepared. The gardens are stunning, stocked with beautiful camellias, lavender, rosemary.....we could have easily stayed for much longer than our overnight north to south stop over. We found Almaden to be welcoming, friendly, typically Spanish with a fascinating history, we made a promise to Antonio to return and visit the mercury mine museum next year, we travelled by motorbike, and Antonio generously locked this away in his private garage overnight. Nothing was too much trouble and we loved the experience this fabulous place offered. No wonder the reviews are so very positive, all well earned, thank you sincerely from your grateful guests Jonathan and Melanie
Nothing it was completely fabulous!
