Superb

very kind owner and staff, always checking how everything is. offers to clean the room daily and change towels if need be. I love that instead of giving plastic bottles they offer to fill up downstairs and provide glass bottles if you don’t have your own. the room is large and comfortable and the breakfast was a winner! I didn’t need lunch because the lovely staff filled us up all the way. close to the beach & turtle beach, everything around walking distance. Gardens and pool were very clean and the pool was not heavily chlorinated which I appreciate! I could go on and on..

unfortunately it’s right on the train line, not their fault but it did wake my baby up most nights. if you’re sensitive this may not be ideal..

Exceptional

Everything was super nice. The bedroom was giant, the AC was working well and the breakfast was just the best we had in Sri Lanka! The owner was incredibly nice and made sure we were always super comfortable. We definitely recommend this place.

Amazing hotel in a great location!

This hotel is a hidden gem! The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond for us. We were given a drink and some cake on arrival and they took our bags to our room. The room was huge and very clean. The bed was very comfy and the room came with a sink/kitchenette area. We had a balcony which had a nice view and we could see the sea in the distance. The owner kindly gave us a lift to the station when we were leaving and helped us with our onward travel to Colombo. I’d definitely recommend staying at Hotel Finlanka!

Oasis of tranquility

We loved our stay at the Finlanka. Although close to the main road, beach and railway line it was so quiet and peaceful! The garden was very green and lush with plants and flowers and the pool was very inviting. The quiet lane leading to the main road had a number of eating places serving delicious food - the battered prawns being our favourite. All the staff at the Finlanka were friendly and attentive, the breakfast plentiful and delicious and the coffee was the best we had in Sri Lanka!! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Excellent value for money. I recommend this hotel.

Very good hotel. We wanted to stay there again, but everything was already booked. Excellent breakfast. Clean pool. I would like to especially mention the staff. He is very friendly and always ready to help. This is a great place to stay with kids.

There is a railway nearby, but in Hikkaduwa you can’t hide from it - it passes through the whole city. Noise isolation in the room is a bit weak. I was comfortable in the room, but I decided to warn travelers who are light sleepers

Excellent manager Sanjeewa always ready to help at any time of the day, delicious and inexpensive breakfasts, really big rooms - my apartment is smaller :)

It's not a problem for us, because daughter likes trains, but the railway is near the hotel territory and sometimes trains beep too loudly.

Best resort in srilanka

I stayed here 3 nights in Finlanka. This was the best resort that we stayed during our 10 days visit in srilanka. Sanjeeva who is the resort owner never said no to anything. During our stay my phone had software issue. His cousin, chami helped me to fix the phone issue. This is what separates this resort from other resorts Breakfast was really good more than enough. Sanjeeva gave personal attention to ask what we liked. Also, he didnot charged us for our extended stay in resort since our flight was in night. He also walked with us and showed snorkelling points, There are snorkel equipments that is free for customers Thanks to all staff. Sorry i donot remember names . Lady who prepared breakfast gave bag full of mangoes as she likes mango. The staff who landed charger for 2 days, since my phone was corrupted and my wife's phone had charger problem. Night staff who always greeted with smile. Thanks for making our stay pleasant Regards Ravi & Vibha

Too near railway line, could do with its own generator when there is a power cut because the rooms get really hot without the air conditioning

Perfect!

The saff. The room. The location. The breakfast. Everything was exceptional! The best stay in all my Sri Lanka trip! I felt so taken care of and spoiled, from the moment I arrived up until I left. All the staff is super nice and friendly and they do anything they can to make your stay perfect. I highly recommend this place! The rooms are clean, the bufet is generous, the pool was clean, the staff is amazing!

I have read other reviews that mention the railway being close, this is true. For me it was not a problem, there were not that many trains during the night, I slept perfectly.

Charming place and staff

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is very cool with both local and western options. Nice to have the pool option.

I had a lot of problems with the AC, but they really did all they could to try to fix it. the only thing lacking is the option to pay your stay with card.

Very nice hotel with exeptional staff

It was amazing stay and experience. Hotel Finlanka was one of the best place on our trip all over Sri Lanka. Staff is exeptional in this place. Manager Mr. Sanjeewa was very kind of the first minute. He arranged a cheap taxi for us from the airport and met us even at 6 AM for check in, also he is the person in which vocabulary there isn't word "NO" for his customers. When you need something you will get it right away. Hotel facilities are also nice - big swimming pool, nice garden area around. Big rooms with all the needed things - kettle, fridge and etc. They served very delicious and big breakfast with a lot of Sri Lankan and european options. Overall - very nice stay in the perfect hotel which should be rated much higher!

Good place to stay in Hikkaduwa

Owner was very helpful and the breakfasts were the best I had in Sri Lanka . The location was fine for the beach and the closeness to the railway line did not disturb me . I recommend it.

Beautiful place, lovely people!

Sanjeewa and his family who run the hotel are the most lovely and kind people I have met in Sri Lanka, they really give everything to make sure you have a comfortable and safe stay with them. Really really recommend!

Superb

Nice and big room with a nice balcony. A very big couch in the room which was very chill. Very friendly staf and breakfast was amazing. Nice garden with swimming pool. The beach is walking distance. Small 5/10 minutes walks.

Watch out. The trainrail is just next to it and can be loud if the trains passed by.

Fantastic stay, felt really welcomed!

We had an amazing time at Finlanka. Upon arrival we were meet by the hotel manager and his family who all made us feel welcomed and at home. We were given choice of room within the hotel and the rooms were all very spacious. The room we picked had a large king bed, plenty of room, facilities such as safe, hairdryer, kettle, fridge freezer and a balcony to sit out on. The manager also gave us some extra equipment such as extension plugs that we didn't have and some welcome goodies such as tea, coffee, water and biscuits. The manager and his family also helped us get out bearings of the surroundings including recommendations of where we could go for dinner. The hotel pool and surrounding areas where extremely tidy and well looked after. The kitchen area was available for use if needed with lots room to eat in this area too. Our stay included breakfast and it was so yummy! Eat morning we were well looked after with either a Sri Lankan breakfast or a European breakfast. We were also provided really nice coffee and fresh fruit juices. They made sure we were well feed for the day ahead. The hotel manager was also very flexible in supporting us by extending our stay with them by three nights. We were able to borrow snorkeling gear from them which was great and spent some days snorkeling at the nearby coral reef. The location is great as you are so close to the beach (turtle and cor reef beaches) and there are lots of restaurants, shops and supermarkets near by. Having your own fridge certainly made it easier to by your own drinks and food. Overall it was a really amazing stay at Finlanka, we couldn't feel more welcomed by the family, and loved the location as it was ideal. We would certainly return in the future and would highly recommend staying at Finlanka! Thank you!!

The train track is close and can be loud sometimes but it isn't very busy so only often. This is not a fault of the hotel owner though.

Great host with nice hotel

The host was one of the friendliest I've encountered in Sri Lanka. He is very helpful with everything, gave us a free lunch when we were chilling at the pool including coffee. Ask the owner anything and he will do his very best to help you. The room was big and the bed was comfortable. The pool is nice to hang in.

The beach with all the surfing schools and (in my opinion) better restaurants are quite far south at Narigama Beach. Advised to take a tuktuk there because you can't always walk all the way down with high tide due to erosion of the coastline. The other widely mentioned downside is the train which you will definitely hear at night (2-3 trains per night). Woke me every time but I fell asleep within the minute so it did not really bother me in the end.
