Convenient location. Friendly staff.
Shower pressure v low. It dripped at night n made it difficult 2 sleep. Emergency light flickered a few times in the early hours of the morning n then remained on n I could not switch it off. Could not sleep thereafter s it was 2 bright.
Hair dryer broke down on the 2nd day.
Aircon in 1 of the rooms (twin share) didn't work at 1st n we needed the staff 2 repair it.

The location is excellent, the hotel is near to many coffee shops and restaurants. It is also walking distance from the train station. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel was a goldsmith shop repurposed into a hotel, it still retained the past vibe mixed with modern decor and amenities. It's spacious and comfortable. We had a wooden tub in the room, so interesting, gave a cowboy mining town feel to the room. Location is also within walking distance of the old coffee shops, mural lane, concubine lane and other famous landmarks in the old town.
You have to pay everything by cash so make sure you have change. There is no designated drop off area, the car will stop on the road just in front of hotel. The hotel will also only give one keycard. Water pressure is just okay, not that strong.

The location is excellent for those that want to explore Old Town Ipoh. Clean rooms! Ideal for a short stay.
We expected more of a heritage feel. There is no breakfast, but a Chinese restaurant nearbye gives you a discount . However their menu is rather limited. Many of the fancy restaurants and coffeebars in nearby Old Ipoh only open at 11. 00 or later, too late for breakfast.

Es gibt kein Frühstück aber genug Cafés rundherum!! Allerdings sollte man es nicht eilig haben!!

Wonderful people at Sarang Paloh. They was very responsive and helpful during the booking process. When we arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming and chatty. Check in was straightforward and we felt like we were friends of the hotel. The location is great! The local staff gave us good info about where to eat and where to go. Comfortable beds.
I guess if i had to pick something that I didn't like, i'd suggest a deep clean for the sofa/couch in the room. Unlike beds, these don't have linens that get changed.

Noisy air con motor right outside window.

Room was lovely. Just the front rooms are really noisy.
The room was extremely noisy, cars and motorbikes just outside windows all night long.

Location and cleanliness. Friendly staff
Only stairs. No lift. In convenient if you hv a heavy/big luggage

Authentic, genuine, clean, easy, friendly and in the perfect location.
With the heat we wish there was a pool but that was our bad for not booking somewhere with that. However the AC was very much a good substitute.

Wonderful room, so comfy!

Very well refurbished heritage hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was fantastic for food and exploring the old part of town. Appreciated the attention to detail, eg old fashioned mugs to make coffee in.
The staff were thoughtful and accommodating - they alerted us to roof works going on and ensured the work was done at reasonable times. They also asked for us to call ahead of leaving the room, so that they could make sure there weren't trip hazards etc around.
Nothing.

you couldn't ask for a better location - right in the heart of the old town. The service was also excellent with very helpful and friendly front desk staff. The hotel itself was full of old charm.
It would have been nice to have a breakfast option, but it didn't really matter that there wasn't as there are plenty of good cafes nearby.

Location is excellent. Service is good. My wife likes the vintage furniture at the lobby.
Small noisy air-cond that could not cope with the high ceiling loft room. Only 1 pillow per person. The room when I booked described as suite with garden view but has only a small window at the corner of the room. Shower is only rain shower so you must wash your hair every time you bath. Too many steps inside and outside the room and no lift.

It is a wonderful traditional renovated property

Very nice staff at front desk.
Pretty but not practical. No elevator but staff helped.
No credit card machine. This cost me additional 45RM to withdraw cash. Very annoying. Was only told of this after booking online.
Room I was in had light from outside streaming in. Could not sleep.
Bathroom sink had no shelf, everything has to go on the floor.
Not good value for money compared to other boutique hotels.

The staff were super helpful and friendly. Would definitely go back if going back to Ipoh.

The location was great, with key attractions in Ipoh (like the Concubine lane) only 3-4 min walk away. The staff was lovely and friendly. It's a heritage house, so the house was big and airy with high ceilings and lots of light.
The room design left a bit to be desired. The rooms have ensuites, but the way ensuites have been incorporated into the room made it clunky. We were first in a twin room at the top of the house which got no natural light, and got way too hot during the day (the A/C and the fan didn't help). As we were staying there for a week, the management offered us a different room after we talked to them. The second room was much better with windows that opened to the courtyard. It would be better if the property owners planted some more trees in the courtyard so the heat of the day isn't so unbearable when in the room.

The restaurant downstairs was great
The place is very old and hot and the owner is too cheap to let the a/c stay on unless you are in the room. This means that upon arrival, you will need to hump your luggage up several flights of stairs into a sweltering hot room. Wanna go out and eat while the place cools down? No chance because the aircon turns back off when you leave, and the old trick of just leaving a random card in there to keep it running doesn't work. Also the toilet leaks all over the place when you flush it. Cheap owners

Definitely heritage and quirky. Great location within easy walking access of railway station and old Ipoh. The staff were friendly.
The hotel only accepts cash or local bank transfer which we did not realise until after we had booked. The reception would only give very limited information about the local area. The access to the room felt hazardous as the stairs were very steep. The room was on the top floor with limited insulation from the roof tiles, so it was very hot, the air conditioning struggled to cool the room, and the traffic was noisy overnight. No external windows. Only one key was available for the two of us, so we had to coordinate coming and going to the hotel.

great place to stay if you want to explore the history of Ipoh. Walking distance to main attraction in old town
high stairs.

The location is great, walkable from the train station and close to everything in the old town. The guest house is historic and has a lovely feel to it with high ceilings and lots of indoor/outdoor spaces and greenery. The woman on reception was really lovely and did her very best to look after us.
Just be warned that you will potentially have to carry your luggage up a few flights of steep stairs. Our room was at the top and didn't have any exterior windows which was fine for us as it meant it was quiet but just check before you book if that's important to you. Our wifi didn't work initially and it wasn't until we threatened to move to another hotel that they got someone in from the office to sort it out for us.

Location
Only window in bedroom giving inside building with 24hour light.
We hardly see any staff during our stay, only to ask for us to send mail to confirm we had done the transfer payment
4.1
Heritage building and some lovely antique furniture, very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Extremely spacious and modern bathroom.
Only one chair in room to sit on to watch tv and enjoy tea. most of the time, we had to sit on the bed.

Beautifully preserved heritage property with clean and comfortable rooms
Nothing! Great central location & a lovely place to stay

The building and roon was lovely and well restored. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great once we realised we had to turn the heating on for the hot water.
The location was great, right beside the old town and some very good breakfast venues.also was a quick walk if arriving by train.
The staff were friendly helpful and thanks to the night staff that help us locate some dining places after a late check in.
Minor things; the internet was not very good it was slow and unreliable (we did have to request more vouchers), the offering was expensive compared to other heritage accommodation around Malaysia, the air condition in the room was noisy on the plus side this did block out some road noise which was not bad at all.
A trend we noticed this trip around Malaysia was having a water refill station at accommodation so people can refill water. We think this is a great idea.
