4.5
- The beach is clean, nice water, glowing plankton and some snorkeling opportunities right at the beach (equioment can be borrowed)
- I loved the experience of having no running water, hearing the animals at night etc.
- One might get bored quickly

probably the best place on the island to see plankton at night and great snorkel spot.
Food was amazing and the host Dany is a legend.
It felt like being on a private island in a wild setting

Prachtige locatie, rustig en lekker eten
Zorg dat je wel houdt van een beetje back to basic.

Lonely Beach is a remote, untouched piece of paradise. Extremely peaceful and quiet with a beautiful beach that you basically get to yourselves. Huts are simple & basic but charming and rustic with main restaurant/communal area with delicious menu (huge portions) that are fresh and filling. Owned by Dani, a friendly, hospitable, slightly eccentric character and his pack of 7 dogs, he is committed to the eco conscious lifestyle and is incredibly thoughtful and helpful and knows the area, the land, and the people. 4 am plankton swims, sunrise on the beach, hammock lounges, great conversations with fellow travelers and playing games with a rambunctious 8-year old who was staying for the weekend all helped make our stay special.
While it was low season and covid has no doubt been hard on them, Lonely Beach could do with some more up-keeping, as there are parts that are a bit worn down or neglected and washed-up trash is scattered on areas of the beach. It’s part of the charm and the eco-conscious lifestyle Lonely Beach is going for, but it’s probably not for those who aren’t accustomed to sacrificing a few comforts. No running water, water is pretty still, everything is kind of damp, and I wouldn’t stay here if you aren’t comfortable fishing dead rodents out of your water supply…

The animals made me feel safe after the break in, as we weren’t able to leave the following day. We had to stay another night which we didn’t want to do after what had happened. We payed for a room that we didn’t even use?
We were staying on Koh Rong in a place called Lonely beach. During the night someone broke into our window whilst we were sleeping ( even though I locked the window and the door from the inside). They proceeded to steal all our money and my phone whilst our possessions were in a small bag attached to us in the bed. I’m a light sleeper and I only awoke to someone touching my back. I turned around and It wasn’t my sister. We are still struggling from the whole ordeal and the police have been reluctant to help us. Even Dany the owner of Lonely Beach didn’t want to get involved despite being the cause of the lack of security for his guests on his property.
Luckily we tracked my phone on my iPad via find my phone. Acquiring a police report has been an ongoing difficult process, almost like we are being sent around in circles. Having this report is crucial in order to claim back what we lost on our travel insurance. Lonely beach didn’t have any security measures and the reviews I found after leaving the property detailed previous sexual assaults through similar circumstances like ours. I don’t want this to ever happen to travellers especially solo female travelers. I’m sure Lonely beach was a great place to stay prior to covid hitting the island. However, the pictures advertising the property is far from the truth and definitely not what we expected.

Had an amazing stay at Lonely Beach! The location is incredible, very chilled and relaxing and owners were just brilliant. Food menu was great and amazing food. Would definitely recommend a visit while on Koh Rong.
Nothing.

David the manager is the highlight of the place! No, seriously, we totally enjoyed everything: the clean beaches, the best vibe at the restaurant and the greatest view from the outdoor bathrooms. 😎
100% worth it! And we forgot to mention the dogs and the cats…

Everything was way beyond expectations!
I fell in love with this place! The beach is gorgeous, well maintained, and you feel like you are the only one here. Bungalows are far enough away from each other, you don't feel cluttered together like most places. Sunsets are fantastic, biolumenescense was incredible. I stayed for 5 nights, and then went to another island that I had already booked. I wished that I was back here the whole time. Most of the people that I met who were also staying here were extending their stay each day longer and longer and I wish I had as well! Truly a magical experience! A remote piece of tropical paradise! It is rustic and eco friendly! The restaurant is incredible, drinks are delicious and well priced. Vegetarian options are very yummy! The staff is just so sweet, helpful and friendly! David and Danny are fantastic and I wish I got the names of the other staff because they were all so great. There's also a very good looking server also wish I got his name!! ;) There are dogs and cats that are VERY well taken care of, and super sweet! Definitely another one of my favorite parts. But truly, next time I visit cambodia, I will stay here the entire time! I can't wait to come back. Thank you so much for having me! I am so thankful to have experienced this place.
Nothing.

The beach is incredible! It is not very big, but really secluded so it feels like it is just you and nature. The restaurant has a great menu with vegetarian and vegan options, and their payment system is great - you pay for everything (dinner, bungalow, extra’s) when you check out, so during your stay you don’t need to think about money at all. There were some reviews that mention that there is not a lot to do, but I disagree. It’s quiet - but not boring. We went snorkelling two times (you can rent gear for 2 dollars at the restaurant) and it is amazing what you can find by the rocks near the beach. There is also a small fishing village nearby where you can rent a kayak at firefly guesthouse, and it was fun to kayak up the river. Although none of this can top the bioluminescent plankton that’s visible at night. If you go there, you must must must go swimming when it’s dark and be amazed!
It is a little bit of a journey to get there, after taking the boat to Koh Touch we got a tuktuk ride of about 45 minutes. The way back was a bit faster on the back of a moto taxi.
There is also not much internet coverage on this part of the island. I did not mind this at all, but I feel like it should be mentioned. In the bungalow and restaurant was no 4g coverage, but on the beach there was.
Last thing to mention was the bathroom. No running water means no shower and flushing your toilet with a bucket. It adds to the whole “back to basic” vibes so I enjoyed it, but it’s worth mentioning!

Dreamy place. Spectacularly quiet and rustic. We loved it with two kids who have never experienced anything like it. ****

The sea water was clean. Nice to see the plankton at night.
Writing this here because I reached the maximum number of characters below: I would strongly discourage solo travelers (especially women) to stay here. It is not safe.
If you decide to stay at Lonely beach after reading my review below, please be careful and make sure you always have other guests staying in the bungalows next to yours, ask to be moved to a different bungalow if there are no other guests around yours. Lock all your belongings both during the day and at night, there is a very skilled (dangerous) thief around the property. Please read below.
*Trigger warning: the review below contains description of sexual assault*
I had a very scary experience here. I was staying in one of the Bird Nest bungalows and on my last night the two other bungalow next to mine were empty. I did not notice this when I went to sleep. In the middle of the night a guy entered in my bungalow through the window while I was asleep (there is no way of locking the window, there is just a system with a rope and it is easy to open them from outside). He tried to open the locker where I kept my backpack but he did not manage to do so. I believe this is when he came on the bed, probably to look for the key to open the locker. He moved my phone and my flashlight outside of the bed and he did not find the keys. I heard a sound (him running away?) and when I woke up the door of the bungalow was open. I started looking for my phone and for the flashlight, I could not find them (there is no light in the bungalows). I went outside and I saw him standing just outside the bungalow. I screamed at him to give me my phone back, as I thought he had stolen it. He came close to me and attacked me. We ended up on the floor and he started touching my breast and between my legs. I started screaming and he covered my mouth with his hand. I gave him a bite, fought a bit longer, kept screaming for help and he finally let go.
My bungalow was far from the main restaurant area, I run through the jungle to reach the restaurant and woke up the owners. One of them said something like "That ba*tard, I swear this time I am going to *** him" and run away, supposedly to look for the guy. The other owner came with me to the bungalow with a flashlight. That is when we saw that the guy clearly tried to open the locker without success, and we found my phone and my flashlight that he had moved on the platform next to bed. This is not the first time that they have theft on the property (there are two other reviews mentioning this on booking).

Lonely beach is a nice and quiet place. You meet travellers from all over the world in a very chilled atmosphere. The food is amazing!! (but a bit pricey and you don't have other choice around). The beach is really really beautiful and the plancton at night time is incredible & magical.
The owners are very good people and it's nice to talk to them :)

Beautiful remote setting, lovely staff and great food. Basic eco bungalows and no WiFi. Great for relaxing.
Nothing it was great but if you want air-conditioning WiFi and hot running water don’t stay hear. If you are happy with nature and want to get away from it all for a few days or longer this place is perfect.

Our visit started out very good and we had a few really nice days at the lonely beach. The personnel was very nice and helpful and there were a lot of pets running around the place which was very nice. Only thing food not so good and overpriced.
The turn came when we were going to check out.
We were going with the 7am boat the next day and spoke to another guy than the owner (dani) who we suppose were some kind of realative who also was in charge there (??)
We asked if we we’re supposed to check out this day or in the morning after and he made it seem as if we could fix everything before we were going to the boat and he said yeah sure I’m here from 5am. At the time we spoke to him he also hit the puppies that they have there which was very unpleasant.
Cut to the next morning and we’re at the restaurant to fix everything before leaving. He’s laying on a mattress sleeping and we wake him up, he checks the time on his phone and then goes back to sleep??? Then when he finally got up after some time we were like ok so can you check us out now? And he got super upset and started yelling about how we should’ve done it yesterday and yelled in French as if we wouldn’t understand the nasty things he said right to our faces. Then we went through the tab we had for the time staying there and he asked something about our checkout deposit but we didn’t understand what he meant and instead of explaining he just kept the deposit without even checking our bungalow which he would have had the time to do if he was up at the time he said he would be. So that was an extra 25 dollars that he kept out of spite or whatever. Either if this was all just a misunderstanding or not he should’ve just handled this way better and explained that he was keeping it instead of just muttering and being rude in French. Horribly rude and nasty man, a typical narcissist and he shouldn’t be allowed to ever handle either humans or animals.

This is a truly special place. From its location, the staff, to the owners puppies running round, this stay is faultless. it’s extremely good value for money, including their restaurant where the food is amazing. The staff are incredibly welcoming and created a very relaxed and wholesome vibe - would recommend this place to anyone.

The staff is very friendly, the beach is beautiful, the food is great.
Full of trash and rubbish everywhere. The photos on booking.com have nothing to do with the reality the place feels like an abandoned paradise.

Owner is the best, most caring and helpful person in the world! Place is very remote, its the only resort on the beach, so wild life is so close to you, its so fun to observe and interact with - monkeys, crabs, dogs and cats and ofcourse light up planctons that you get to swim with in the ocean. One of the top experiences, for sure! Even though it os remote place, mobile signal with Smart works perfectly on the beach.
Food is great, stuff is lovely and place - great destination if you are more adventurous and trully want to live in wild jungle bungalo.
2.5
The place is secluted, can be very charming if you are looking for little to no human contact and you want to take a bath with bioluminescent plancton, it's magic and since there is no light pollution, it's real every night.
Lobby area is cool, coffe was delicious and we loved mango sticky rice. Homemade bread is great, you should try.
It's a wild eco lodge, very spartan with no electricity - you get to charge your devices in the lobby and go around with a camping light - can be very good if this is what you are looking for.
The khmer lady and kids are lovely and the newborn puppies... so cute!!
Not enough panels to reach the place, you may get lost. On the way you will encouter one river to cross (quite easy) and a stream of water in the jungle. the latter can be 40 cm deep or more and no bridge is provided so you just get in hoping your bike will survive. It can be actually a lot of fun but on a rental also a stressful experience. If you want to avoid you can get there by mototaxi (a scooter guy) for approximately 15 $ each way, than you are grounded. Rental there is not an option and you don't even get a kayak. Lonely beach does not exist during high tides and no effort is put to make the garden area accessible to sunbathe properly. Waste can be found everywhere on the coast so if you think to take a walk and check the beach or go for a fresh morning run you will bump into the disapointment of the real. The "children of the world" keeping the place can be very french at times. The park and infrastructures need urgent renovation, barefoot walking could come at a cost. There is no shower so willingly or unwillingly you get to experience the khmer way of toilet... with a plastic cup and cold water. Even if you pay more, that's all you are going to get. The lobby area is very nice and relaxing especially when they put music but NO reliable WIFI there, only a hotspot that gets opened and closed randomly. Prices for meals are generally inflated, about 5-9 dollars each little portion and cocktails are not the best. What they call yogurth is actually very acid fermented milk, better not try. Just 25 min walking distance there are local streetfood markets or other places like Palm Beach or Firefly... but remember to bring a torch for your way back!

A paradise!!! Gorgeous place, in the middle of nowhere with an amazing beach and chilling atmosphere! The owner is very good guy, super kind, he cooks just amazing food, delicious!!!! There are cats and dogs there, super friendly!
A glowing plankton at night is amazing!!!
It was pretty complicated to teach this place: first by speed boat to Koh Touch, and then by Moto taxi through the island, but the road was amazing!
Highly recommend you to put this place to the very top of your bucket list in Cambodia!
Overall nothing. Just remember that this is a jungle and be prepared to protect yourself from mosquitos (at bungalow it was not a lot of mosquitos, but in the jungle there are)

This is the perfect place for a wildlife eco-friendly experience. the bungalow are perfect, with sea view, with big bathroom and your own water reservoir, teaching you how to manage your own water. Beach was paradise with almost no one and nothing around. Dogs cats, horn bills, fishes, crabs, wild animals are all around creating the perfect atmosphere. In the night you can swim with planktons so so much. I would fully recommend to stay there. But be aware is a eco and green wild place, don't expect luxury, it is not for everyone.

We really enjoyed our stay at this remote place on Koh Rong. Perfect to relax and enjoy the jungle and beach life without WiFi. And the hosts were both so nice and the food excellent.
Just know that getting there is quite an adventure, but definitley worth the experience.

The name of the location does not over-promise. The beach is really lonely :) I mean it in a very positive way. Dani's place is really exceptional. To reach it, you have to take a feary to Koh Rong first and then take a one hour motorbike taxi. But then you have his place as the only one at the complete north of the island.
Dani is a very nice guy and he does the whole project from heart. It is very uncommercial, and very ecological resonsible. The bungalows are completely in the nature and the beach is like 30m from the bungalows. The facilities are basic, but this is how it is meant to be. Do not expect the equipment of a 5-star hotel. But expect to meet people that care about the environment, that love the beautiful scenery more then some kind of generic luxus of hotel chains.
Dani, the owner, is a lovely guy who lives in Cambodia for about 30 years and can share a lot of information about the place and that you can have a nice talk with. He and his team provide a great experience, great food and just a good and relaxed time.
I can highly recommand this spot! Thank you Dani!
