WELCOME HOME!
First things first, Enjoy your vacation! At Casa Tocayo we are prepared and committed to assure you a pleasant, relaxed, and fulfilling experience. We wish you to feel right at home during your Sayulita vacation. Please let us know anyway we can make your stay with us more enjoyable. Please read along to acquaint yourself with the operations of Casa Tocayo and also some important information about Sayulita and some suggestions as well.
About Casa Tocayo in a Nutshell Summary
Casa Tocayo is part of a condominium complex, so we do have some rules and regulations, however they are not always strictly enforced, so please be flexible, and also please don’t abuse them either. Please read further to find the condo rules.
Our housekeeper Brenda strives to keep you content on your stay. She normally works everyday except for Wednesdays and Saturdays. She will normally show up around 10am and stay until 2 or 3. She will try to stay out of your way, especially if you are still sleeping. During the time she is there she will wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, and make beds, etc. The housekeeper does not do personal laundry, there is a laundry service nearby where you can have that service done affordably and it takes about a 24 hours or less(location will be listed further). She does speak some english and is eager to learn more, so please chat with her and be patient. Her goal is to make your vacation pleasant, if you have anything that needs to brought to our attention, please do not hesitate, we appreciate all feedback.
Brenda is flexible and if needed we can switch her days if needed. She does have a family of her own and commutes to and from Sayulita daily, so please keep that in mind for her sake. Tipping the housekeeper is customary in Mexico, please ask around for suggestions on how much, but don’t be afraid to be generous, there is no right or wrong. These tips(propinas) are greatly appreciated and can improve lives more than you can imagine.
We strive to do the best for the environment, and hate to wash more towels than are necessary. The sun does a good job at drying them, please reuse them as much as possible. If you need towels washed, please ask Brenda so she can do that for you. Guests do not have access to the laundry area.
Another very important tidbit, that will will mention a few times. Please do not flush toilet paper, or anything other than you-know-what. The sewer systems here are not designed to handle them. We know it may be a bit awkward, and easy to forget also, but please do your best. Use the wastebaskets for all paper and other products, contrary to popular belief, it will not cause a smell.
If you have any simple questions please ask around before contacting us. Francisco is the maintenance man for all of Villas Palmar, he can help in many ways and knows most answers. He also really appreciates tips! He works hard to keep the pool and grounds up to par.
For all other inquiries please contact us by email if not urgent, or text or whatsapp. Please reserve calls for emergencies only.

We also recognise these as an process, we try to make it better everyday. Please help us to reduce our environmental footprint. Feedback is welcome!
Local fauna and insects
We are located at a tropical, rural area with teeming wildlife blended into town and surrounding it. Don’t be surprised to spot crabs wandering around, lizards on ceilings and some iguanas catching the sun on a rooftop or munching at some leaves. The geckos will cruise around on walls and ceilings eating smaller insects, including mosquitoes, so they are our friends. Insects love the jungle, and we love them, they keep our environment healthy. Although mosquitoes are a bit of a bother during rainy season (June to September), the rest of the year you may eventually encounter spiders, non-lethal scorpions, and exotic bugs. Casa Tocayo uses organic/low-toxicity pest control procedures only when necessary. We have never found a scorpion here, as we are too close to the ocean. Still we recommend walking around with flip-flops and keeping a good repellent in hand.
Pool and common area rules
The pool and common areas abide by simple rules. Quiet hours are 9am to 12am (midnight). No diving, swim at your own risk, children must be supervised, no glass in or around the pool, no eating in the pool.
Kitchen
Tocayo has a modern kitchen. We should have all supplies needed for your needs, please notify us if something is missing.
Noise/music
Although we are located at a very peaceful part of town, far enough from the noisy clubs downtown, a few nights of the year are exceptionally noisy due to local traditional festivities. If you need any extra earplugs, let us know. Please avoid music or excessive noise near the rooms after 10:00 P.M. and before 9:00 A.M.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in any room or on the patios/kitchens. You can smoke near the beach or under the common palapa. Please refrain from smoking in other areas. A deep cleaning fee ($100 USD) per day applies in case you smoke in your room.
Parking
Gated parking is available with limited capacity. You can Open the gate anytime or you can ask for assistance if needed. Should you arrive by car during the night please let us know in advance. There is only one parking space available for Casa Tocayo, there is usually space in front of the house, but it is not guaranteed. Disclaimer: We are not responsible for damage or theft to vehicles or vehicle contents.
Trash, Recycling and compost
We are making a big effort to reduce our waste. Our trashcans are all labelled. Please help us reduce our ecological footprint by placing trash into the correct container. Cleaning staff will take the trash from bathrooms and kitchen daily. There is a bodega on the left hand side near the front gate where trash is collected if you need to take it yourself. We do recycle, so please keep all recycling in the recycling container under the kitchen counter. They will separate it at the recycle center, all glass, cans, plastic, paper, and cardboard. There is also a composter in the front of the complex, you can add compostables to that at any time.
Amenities
Shampoo, conditioner and soap are provided as amenities. Each unit at Casa Tocayo is equipped with two beach chairs and an umbrella. Make sure you bring them back, please! A fee will applied for failure to returns this items.

Please rinse sandy feet before entering the house, rooms and pool area. A water faucet is provided at the entrance of the house on the beach side. There is a shower by the pool.
We suggest bare feet walking around the house... it feels good!
Towels and pool towels
Towels provided in your room are for the house only. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE TOWELS TO THE BEACH. Towels racks are also provided inside and outside your room to help you dry out all damp items.
Beach towels are provided as well, please do your best to keep them usable as much as possible through your vacation. We can wash them if needed, but if you hang them properly they will dry in the sun and stay fresh.
