Sehr schöne Lage, man kommt zur Ruhe, freundliches Personal, guter Wein, offener Kamin ist unnötig w

Lage super, sehr ruhig, viel Platz

Man hat uns ein „Upgrade“ gegeben- Haus mit offenem Kamin, Holz alles da. Wir haben es nicht benutzt, allerdings roch alles nach kaltem Rauch! Besser kein „Upgrade“

we liked the Nature around it, Most of the staff was really friendly, Good for birding

the Rooms where smaller than expected, there was no direct see view, food was okay but especially the breakfast below Hygiene standards (birds where picking the toast and marmelades)

Superb

The location on De Hoop Vlei and the vastness of the reserve were impressing. The room was clean and tastefully furnished with a comfortable mozzie-netted bed.The food was much better than expected, actually quite lekker and it came with an extensive, interesting and reasonably priced wine list. The staff was really, really nice and accommodating with the shining star being Dennis in the bar/restaurant. What a guy! We would be very happy to return.

For the price you pay for the suites, back-up power during load shedding shouldbe considered. If not feasible, at least some decent LED-lights should be put in place to make it possible to sit and read during load shedding. The old school torch offered was no help in this regard.

the access to room suite was a little cumbersome; the poop on the grass at night was a bit of a problem as it was difficult to avoid

The kitchen was very good, the food was better than expected. The little cottage was cosy and private. It would have been nice to have a door between the bed and the bathroom because of the toilet.

The walks you could do by yourself are a bit limited.

Away from.it all

Loved the setting and the vlei suite was very comfortable. Guides were very good and staff friendly and hrlpful

Whilst the bed was made each day the bathroom wasn't wiped down and bins in the room were not emptied each time. May be an oversight but not acceptable for what we were paying A can of peaceful sleep would be helpful touch.

Still one of the most beautiful spots on the planet, in terms of location, flora, fauna, beach…

Our last visit was 3 years ago pre-COVID and we felt that standards had dropped somewhat. The staff did their best to address our concerns and requests.

Fabulous place to stay for wildlife, scenery, accommodation and restaurant.

Our 2night stay was a highlight of our 4 weeks in S. Africa - wildlife was brilliant - zebra, antelopes, ostriches and birds everywhere around the accommodation + S. Right Whales close in shore off the sandy beach - the room (Stable suite) was well equipped and spacious, the restaurant was excellent and the staff were so friendly and helpful, especially the host. A number of guided tours were available - we took a birding tour. Could have stayed there much longer. Unlike our previous visit in 2006, we saw no whales offshore around Hermanus and wondered whether the marine reserve at De Hoop provides a more reliable safer haven for them nowadays?

Not a criticism because it is the remoteness that perhaps makes De Hoop special but you must drive about 40Km from the N2/Swellendam the last bit on reasonable but unsealed roads to get there and you should arrive at the Reserve before 6p.m. Having said that the drive is through very pleasant countryside and farmland and there were Blue Cranes, Yellow Bishops, Cape Weavers, Spur-winged Geese, Buzzards and Harriers.

A wonderful place to stay, beautiful rooms and lovely food.

Beautiful location, for those wanting to be out with nature. Meals were excellent. Waiters very good. Our room was lovely, loved the fireplace in the bedroom.

Not quite the experience we had hoped for...

Wonderful location, good food and friendly staff at restaurant

Stable House: Bathroom/toilet was not clean! There was a terrible smell of wood oil/paint in the room that would not go away even after opening all the windows and keeping them opened all night. Gave us a headache.

nature reserve is well worth a day visit

nature reserve is beautiful and well worth a visit. loved the walk from koppie alleen. we had a all inclusive cottage. the room was nice and proper though it lacked a bit of atmosphere. pool is wonderful with great views over the lagoon.

had a bit of a family park feeling. food was not great. staff seemed a bit task oriented. prices way too steep in comparison to other SA places (although I did not rate this in the final mark)
