Clean, cozy, comfortable! Close to so many great places. Hosts were lovely, always available if needed and with many great suggestions for places to go and things to do. We will be back!

We spent a week at Butternut Camp in Hector near Seneca Lake. Henry, one of the owners, was very nice and friendly during our stay. The place was very clean and well supplied including some ground coffee and cream in the refrigerator. Hector is a great home base for Watkins Glen, hiking trails and tons of wineries and breweries. There is a small view of Seneca Lake from the porch but there is no direct access in the neighborhood. It is nice to walk around the neighborhood. You will need to go to Smith Point Park to get public access which is just a few minutes away. The covered porch had a lovely table, chairs, and rocking chairs for us enjoy.
The description of the VRBO listing indicates that it is a “Cozy - Cedar cabin with covered deck”. Cozy means very small and it is not a cabin, but actually a mobile home which was not mentioned in the description. The bedroom is very small with only enough room for the width of the night tables on either side of the queen sized bed with very little room at the end of the bed. The outside of the home, on the back and the sides had equipment, and debris including wood and piles of small rocks near the fire pit.

The Butternut cabin was a great home base for us to explore the hiking and fishing that the Finger Lakes has to offer. It had everything we needed: A/C, comfy bed, coffee :).
Recommend Watkins Glen if you like waterfalls. Have breakfast at Toni's Diner and dinner at Stonecat Cafe, you won't be disappointed!

I was in town for a quiet weekend away and I got just that. This cabin is easy to get to, very close to Smith Memorial Park to actually get in Lake Seneca on a hot day, and convenient to wineries (if that's your main reason for being in the Finger Lakes).
Check in was quick and easy. AC was nice and cool and speedy - cooled the place down so quickly. The bed was very soft and comfy. The only issue I had was the internet kept going down, especially if I had multiple devices connected. I wasn't there to watch much TV but that was when I really noticed it being slow, or kicking me off.
The provided sugar, coffee and fresh half/half was a nice touch.

After we were able to locate it, by asking a neighbor, we moved in for the weekend. We were attending the Pickin`in the Pasture Bluegrass Festival up in Lodi, so we were only there at night. Bed was comfortable, although room was barely big enough for the bed, but kitchen and living area very livable. Bathroom, however, was small and cramped. We lovingly called it a Hobbit House. We overall liked it and will probably return for next year's Festival

Sue and Henry have the cutest cabin. This is our second year staying here and highly recommend it. They are wonderful hosts.

Sue and Henry were wonderful hosts! The property offered a great location with everything you could want. A family could stay comfortably with full size sleep sofa, loft and the bedroom. the kitchen was well assorted if you wanted to cook or grill. Great porch with outdoor dining, and fire pit is also available, although we didn't use it. Wonderful Finger Lakes location near many wineries, close to Ithaca. I would definitely recommend!

The cabin itself and the property was an oasis in itself. Amenities made us comfortable while enjoying the nature. Visited close by breweries and vineyards; hiked in Watkins Glen. Everything was a short drive and easily accessible. Would come again!

We enjoyed our time at the lake. As others have noted, the surroundings are a bit cluttered with the barn. However, all of one’s needs are evident in the tiny cabin—it enabled us to spend 5 wonderful days in the Finger Lakes region with little worry about anything related to accommodations. Thank you

Was a wonderfull little place perfect for the wife mostly quiet and cozy. Perfect if your gunna do a wine tasting tour or explore the many brewery in the area. Some things to note the door way is camper sized (I'm a pretty big guy) the location isn't bad but there is allot of traffic. And the storage shed that blocks allot of the view is frequented daily while we were there. It's a non issue for most but as a Corrections officer I was doing my best to avoid people on my vacation. All said and done I would absolutely go back and will be much more happy knowing the area and what to expect better my review may be critical but I truly loved and enjoyed my time.

Butternut camp is by far one of the best places we’ve stayed on our twice a year trips to the finger lakes! The location is perfect, and the cozy cabin is absolutely adorable! Very comfortable for two and immaculate! It was a pleasure meeting and talking with Henry, our host! I can honestly say we have found our “ go to” place to stay for our future trips! Thank you Sue and Henry for sharing your beautiful home with us. We will most definitely be back. Jim and Julie S.

This was our first trip to the Finger Lakes and we lucked out on finding this gem! Perfect location for Watkins Glen State Park Hiking and hitting the wine trail. The place was cozy and comfortable. Very clean. The extra touches of the wood trim and fireplace made it feel like a warm log cabin. This was absolutely beautiful time of the year to come-the hiking, the beauty of the trees, and the lake just amazing. Sue and Henry are great hosts. Henry met us after we arrived and was friendly and helpful in recommending places in the area. Would definitely come back!

This was the perfect property for our weekend touring the wineries. Hospitality was wonderful, cabin was clean, comfortable and cozy, even nicer in person than the photos. Private area for fire at night and nice electric fireplace inside to snuggle up and take the chill off, loved the porch for dinners and morning coffee. Nice homes/camps in the surrounding area, serene sounds at the creek nearby, enjoyed watching a beautiful bald eagle fly overhead! Will definitely return in the future.

This property is just charming and so cozy! It is in excellent condition, clean and everything was working. It is stocked with everything I needed. They provided coffee, creamer, butter which was a nice touch. The porch is wonderful to sit on and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the wonderful sounds of nature. Communication was excellent. I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I are repeat guests of Butternut Camp. It was perfect for our three night long weekend in the FLX region. the large covered porch was perfect at night to sit, sip wine and listen to nature. It is in a perfect location to be near great wineries, restaurants, the lake, Smith Memorial Park, and only minutes from Watkins Glen. We got to meet Henry when we checked in this time. What a nice friendly man. The house was spic and span clean. Decorated with woodsy decor. We will definitely look into booking again for another trip up the area.

About 15 minutes north of Watkins Glen, near wineries and distilleries. Cottage is not directly on lake but close to nearby park where you can access the lake and swim.

My wife and I had car trouble in town and Henry and Sue made arrangement (with the help of their daughter, Denise) to pick us up and drive a half an hour outside of town so we could pick up a rental car. Besides just being great people, the properly was just so perfectly decorated and clean and comfy. Highly recommend!

Little Slice of Paradise
This little cottage was the second honeymoon my wife and I never got. COVID displaced our wedding plans somewhat, affording us two ceremonies and as nice as that sounds, it came with a lot of expenses and times have not been any easier lately. Lake Seneca had so much to offer for leisurely living and relaxation and this beautifully crafted tiny house felt just like home. We hope to come back to Lake Seneca some day and when we do, we will be staying here again. Thank you for our good times, we sorely needed them!

Great place for a getaway
The two of us stayed at "Butternut Camp" over Thanksgiving weekend, looking for a quiet holiday this year. The cabin was very inviting, comfortable and immaculately clean. The location between Seneca and Cayuga lakes is great - on the Finger Lakes wine trail and close to Watkins Glenn. We did some hiking in the Finger Lakes National Forest, which is beautiful this time of year. Would definitely stay again! Tim & Michele, Yonkers NY
