Located just 23 miles west of West Yellowstone in Island Park, Idaho, Mountain Lake Cabin sits on a half acre property, nestled between fir trees and aspens, and bordered by Targhee National Forest. From the cabin you can see a glimpse of Henry's Lake, surrounded by towering mountains forming the Continental Divide. Mountain Lake Cabin, built in 2003, is the perfect home base for exploration of the Yellowstone and Teton National Parks. Fish Henry's Lake, a world renowned fishing destination, from the public access only a half mile from the house. WiFi is available for the use of our guests. The cabin is supplied well - we provide linens and towels, two hair dryers, all paper goods, hand soaps, dish washing soaps, laundry soap, shower gel, trash can liners, etc. An incredibly well supplied kitchen. The comfort of our guests is important to us!
This 1617 sq. ft. two-story 3 bedroom/2 bath year-round vacation home has a large loft and sleeps 10 comfortably. It is fully equipped and tastefully furnished. The Great Room has floor to ceiling windows, and the log staircase and vertical logs supporting the cathedral ceiling add to the rustic charm of this lovely mountain home. The alluring view draws your eyes outward through quaking aspens and pines, and to the rising mountains that form the Continental Divide to the North.
It was here in 1805 that the Lewis and Clark expedition looked for a passage over the Divide to link the Missouri River to the Columbia River and down to the Pacific Ocean.
Knotty pine tongue and groove walls and ceilings, custom pine plank flooring, slate tiles, and plush wall-to-wall carpet create a cozy and rustic atmosphere in the cabin. Comfortable furnishings welcome you to a very relaxing experience! A fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and stools opens onto the Great Room with two comfortable leather couches, a recliner, a rocking chair and a corner cast iron gas stove backed by a tall wall of smooth river rock.
The master bedroom with its log bed and full bath is right down the hall. The master bathroom has a bath/shower combination. In the rear of the cabin is a large mudroom, that has a washer and a dryer and a door to the rear deck. The rear deck is very private and looks out over the adjoining Targhee National Forest that rises to the heights of Sawtelle Mountain. To the side of the cabin in the rear is a fire pit, where you can gather to roast marshmallows, share the day's activities and reminisce...
Up the log stairs is a large loft, with a queen size pullout couch and an over-stuffed chair with ottoman. It is a cozy place to talk, read, or watch movies on DVD or satellite TV. There are two upstairs bedrooms; one with a queen bed, and the other with a full size bunk bed and a twin trundle. The upstairs bathroom has a shower. Up a log ladder tucked under apex of the cathedral ceiling is an eagle’s nest loft. Your children will love to play there!
Out front the extensive redwood deck with its log railing looks offers views of aspens and pine trees, which creates a great sense of seclusion. Look forward to casual meals and BBQ's here, as you enjoy the view and the sound of the quaking aspens.
Depending on the season, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, white water rafting, water skiing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are all available in Island Park and neighboring West Yellowstone. You can literally snowmobile from the cabin onto trails that connect with groomed trails down the road in Henry’s Lake State Park, or into West Yellowstone and further into Idaho. You could also try the groomed trails at Big Springs (drive south on Highway 20 and take a left at Mack's Inn). There are also great opportunities for cross-country skiing - drive south on Highway 20 to Harriman State Park and enjoy the peace and quiet there. Or go to the world-famous RendezVous Ski trails in West Yellowstone and visit during the yearly Ski Festival around Thanksgiving, or take part in the yearly RendezVous Ski Races in March.
Back country skiing can be had right from the house. Ski up the foothills of Sawtelle Peak from the back door!
The fishing in Henry’s Lake and surrounding streams is a trout angler's dream and this area is a world-renowned fishery. The lake is home to the 'Henry's Lake 'Lunker,' a cutthroat-rainbow hybrid that can easily weigh up to 10 pounds. The lake also offers an abundance of brook, rainbow, and native cutthroat trout. The Henry's Fork of the Snake River flows out of the lake and winds its way through Harriman State Park to Ashton. This stretch of clear mountain water is acclaimed by fly-fishing enthusiasts as the 'best trout fishing stream in the U.S.'
Henry's Lake State Park on the southeast corner of the lake encompasses three unique ecosystems including the lake, wetlands and sagebrush steppe. Moose and antelope are a common sight and wildflowers bloom throughout the season. The 3-mile Aspen Loop Nature Trail is open to hikers and bikers.
High Mountain Adventures across from the Island Park Resort off of Highway 20 rents kayaks, canoes, rafts, tubes, 4-wheelers and mountain bikes. Or rent your snowmobile there during the winter. Spend a day on Henry's Lake in kayak or canoe as you enjoy the peace and quiet amidst the mountains of the Continental Divide.
Mountain Lake Cabin is within easy driving distance of Yellowstone Park, Red Rock National Wildlife Refuge, Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, Harriman State Park, Quake Lake, and the old mining town of Virginia City, Montana. If you're looking for a rich and authentic western experience in quiet and beautiful surroundings, with easy access to Yellowstone Park, you're sure to enjoy your stay at Mountain Lake Cabin!
A note about your choices of vehicle and clothing: While this home is very easily accessible from 2 major two-lane highways (87 and 287), remember that you are visiting the Rocky Mountains. The driveway and short gravel access road to the house will be plowed of snow and are graded regularly, but we do recommend choosing a rental car appropriate for the season, weather and terrain in Montana. A 2WD vehicle will be fine most of the time, but 4WD and AWD vehicles are recommended during the snowy season which can begin as early as September all the way through June. Please be sure to check weather forecasts regularly. Weather in the mountains can be very dynamic and change quickly. People joke about experiencing all 4 seasons in one day once in a while. Keep various clothing layers and rain jackets handy while you are enjoying your outdoor activities, so you can always be safe and comfortable.
Please visit the Yellowstone National Park website to stay abreast of any temporary or seasonal road closures in the Park, and to take advantage of all the detailed info there about the many amazing park attractions, plus videos and helpful trip planning guides.

The outside and inside of this property is Beautiful. We spent very little time in the house.
We would have coffee in the morning. Would be out by six or seven a m. And back around 7 Or 8. We picked a good time to be there. And a bad time. The good time was Very little people. The bad time, most of the stores were just old. Most of the stores were just opening up. I'm the one that will set up Family union get together. And my baby brother is Talking to his family about going there to stay.

As first timers to the true West - this location was central for all things winter… skiing, snowmobiling and sight seeing were a simple car ride away. Although there are 8-10 homes on the street - we were the only occupied cabin all week. Great scenery!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was the perfect size for our family of 5. We had a 9 year old with us and she enjoyed sledding down the hill. Even the adults managed to take a turn or 2.
The cabin was very well stocked and thanks to a grocery delivery made on Christmas Eve when never had to eat out.
We just can’t say enough about the location, view, amenities, etc. we highly recommend this cabin.

We loved our family reunion and stay near Henry's Lake. The place was perfect for our group of 9, the setting was gorgeous. We made it to Yellowstone three times, and spent one day hiking in the Tetons. The drive to the Tetons was more than two hours, making for a long day but it was well worth it! Walking and exploring around the property was nice in the early evening.

As soon as you enter this lovely cabin you see that the owners have thought of everything to make your stay wonderful. The beds are very comfortable, the showers are great, the kitchen is well equipped. They are generous in supplying you with towels, shampoos, lotions, laundry pods, spices and baking supplies, and even a little candy jar with treats. The living room and upstairs balcony have comfortable chairs and sofas for relaxing. The cabin is in an incredible wooded setting with lovely views from the oversized windows. There is a deck off the front of the house to enjoy the peace and quiet of this incredible setting. It is about 20-30 minutes from the Yellowstone National Park entrance. We visited the Park every day of our stay. I would highly recommend this cabin if you are planning a trip to Yellowstone. It is everything you would want in a cabin in the woods. Adorable!!

All in all the property was a great place for our family vacation. If I was to make any suggestions it would be to check the light fixtures and make sure that they all work and/or good bulb in them and secondly, I would’ve appreciated if there had been some more mowed space between the cabin and the woods

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It had everything we needed and then some. We did a lot of hiking on our vacation and it was great to have a washer and dryer. We will definitely be recommending this property to friends and family.

We enjoyed our stay in the woods near Henry’s Lake. The cabin was relaxing, interesting, and comfortable. We visited Yellowstone with the cabin as a home base. I enjoyed having my morning coffee on the deck with the strong smell of pine in the air and the sounds of distant cattle lowing. Our children enjoyed the loft. Hope to stay again sometime soon.

I cannot recommend this cabin enough! Tucked amidst the woods, this delightful abode was a perfect fit for my family of six. It’s within 30 minutes of Yellowstone's West Entrance and has many conveniences within a short drive. The cabin itself felt like a home away from home, providing all the amenities we needed while surrounded by rustic charm. We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious layout and the comfortable beds, ensuring a restful night after a day of adventure. There is even a working ranch that hosts a Rodeo Dinner Show within walking distance! One of the most memorable experiences was a morning spent on the back porch, sipping our coffee and watching deer casually saunter through the property while listening to the many chirping birds and smelling that cool, fresh pine-scented mountain air. It was like living in our own National Geographic special. In summary, if you're seeking a tranquil escape with a dash of the unique, look no further than this cabin. Five stars doesn't do it justice - it's a Yellowstone gem!

My family (my husband, me, 3 year old, and 1 year old) stayed at the cabin with my inlaws for a week, and we were so impressed with our stay. The layout was perfect, especially the loft with the TV and kids toys. Everything we needed was provided at the cabin, including booster seats, coolers, bear spray, all kitchen supplies, etc. We would definitely stay here again and can't give it a high enough rating. It was wonderful!

This is a beautiful cabin located off a dirt road near the Targhee National Forest. You can see one house but it the other three sides are heavily wooded (at least in June). It was very quiet and peaceful.
It is 35 minutes from the West Yellowstone entrance and then at least another hour to the main attractions. The cabin has a well-stocked kitchen and we used the grill. The camp fire ring was also nice and we had a couple of fire during our stay.
There is a new grocery store in Island Park- Sam Patch Co. that has all the essentials including fresh produce. There are also two kid friendly restaurants in Island Park at Mack’s Inn- Cafe Sabor is Mexican cuisine and the Parlor has brick oven pizzas and ice cream.
Would stay here again if I came back to the area!

There were 5 adults and we all loved the cabin! It was (as others have stated) extremely well stocked! This is by NO means a deal breaker, it is just something to be aware of so that you can plan accordingly on the day you depart; be aware of the fact that if you have to check out early (to catch a flight, etc.), and do not have morning hours until 10 am to complete the check-out list, you need to plan your time wisely. The expectation is that you do 2 loads of laundry through the washing machine, and that is not a small amount of time - especially when it is sheets you can't do the night before because you have to sleep on them, and towels you also may need in the morning. If you run a load of towels late the night before, they definitely need extra time in the dryer so they are dry before you cycle the next load in. Plan ahead. The cleaning fee is not small, so having to do this, in addition to other tasks, can certainly be frustrating. I understand the desire to maximize profit and get the next visitors in the same day, and also understand that if we had had the luxury of hanging around until 10 it would have been easier. Otherwise, we had zero issues, zero complaints, loved the space, the decor, enjoyed looking through the books about Yellowstone and the area, loved exploring the trails out through the back (cannot remember the name of the park land back there), and the drive to the West Yellowstone entrance is easy and short. We would absolutely rent here again!

The cabin was a fantastic spot for our Yellowstone area adventures in and outside of the park. We stayed with two kids, ages 10 and 13, and they loved the upper level bedrooms and eagles nest! And we enjoyed the separation and privacy of the lower level main bedroom. The location is great for park access through West Yellowstone, as well as the horseback riding and ziplining we did nearby. As many have mentioned, the kitchen is very well-stocked, with numerous spices and other items. We enjoyed cooking several meals here and dining outside on the deck. I think we also set a family record for consecutive nights of s'mores at the fire ring! Overall a great spot for our family Yellowstone vacation!

This beautiful home was even better than described. It’s cozy, super clean and has every amenity you could want. The location is perfect. 25 minutes to the gates of Yellowstone. We bought groceries at Food Roundup in West Yellowstone and cooked every meal in the fabulous kitchen. They supply all the spices, plenty of condiments and every cooking tool you’ll need. We even made some chili in the crockpot while visiting the park. We enjoyed the firepit and the deck. It was so peaceful and quiet you could hear the wolves howling at night. We saw a doe and her two babies right by the firepit. The teens loved the big screen tv. It was nice to have a washer and dryer too. Communication was outstanding! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We didn’t want to leave! We will definitely be back next time we visit. This place is seriously a little slice of heaven.

Great Yellowstone Base
Our family of five had a great time staying at the cabin. Beds were comfortable, home was clean, and kitchen was well stocked with anything needed for cooking, including spices, foil, and baking supplies. The kids loved the nook for reading and relaxing after a day in the park. Communication was great, and we would definitely stay again. Cabin was just as described. The area was absolutely beautiful.

Beautiful Cabin in the Woods
This cabin was a perfect size for our family. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook, season, and serve your meals. Loved having the bbq and fire pit too!
The upstairs living area was perfect for our daughter to play and relax while we cooked dinner and unpacked/repacked from our adventures. It had a bunch of toys for her, as well as a TV with lots of movies to choose from.
We saw lots of wild life while visiting, including deer a few days right on the property. We were glad that the cabin came with beer spray to use if needed as that is necessary to bring with on hikes anywhere in the area. We did “meet” a momma grizzly and her two cubs on a hike in Yellowstone and we were very glad to have that with us, just in case.
Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful cabin. We had a great trip:)

Great place to stay outside of Yellowstone
The cabin was private, peaceful and beautiful. It was well-stocked with all the staples and there was even bear spray for us to use on our hikes in Teton and Yellowstone. We saw a female moose with her calf on the road back to the cabin and even some elk one day along the road. Overall, it was a relaxing and fun place to get away. I highly recommend staying here!

Great Experience in a winter wonderland!
We had an amazing time at this property. The location was nearly perfectly centered between Bozeman and Jackson, WY - which allowed for lots of excursions within driving distance for a day trip.
Island Park is a winter playground with amazing views, wildlife and plenty of snow to work with.
The house itself was perfect. Some might complain that the TV was upstairs, but we actually found it led to a lot more relaxation to just sit and talk, leaving the weight of the world upstairs in the loft. Our only complaint would be there were several light bulbs out throughout the house and we couldn’t find proper replacements. Also, the WiFi became congested with 7 devices churning at different points during the day. I would recommend upgrading the Wi-Fi experience for those who might want to stay at the cabin to work during the day. All in all, we loved our stay and would like to come back when the snow is gone to experience what the region has to offer!

Our family enjoyed our stay
The cabin is comfortable and clean with everything you need. Be aware that there is only the tv in the loft. (I didn’t mind but we had teens that were grumbling.) The location is 20 minutes from West Yellowstone and we heard this was the best entrance for Tshirt shopping and restaurants. There is also a small grocery store in West Yellowstone or get your groceries as you drive into Ennius if you are coming from Bozeman. We did see a red fox and a young moose on Red Rock Rd near the cabin so keep your eyes open. We had a great time!
