About this house rental
This 5 bedroom home was built in 2000, and has caretaker in a portion of the barn. The inside is clean, spacious, and comfortable. The kitchen is very big with a bar area that seats 4 comfortably and a large custom kitchen table that seats 10.
There are acres of property to roam on. 6 acres of land is across the street from the home alongside the pond . There is vegetation (trees and blueberry bushes) right up to the waters edge, with a nice dock area. You must cross the street to get to the dock area. Behind the house, there are some rugged trails and logging roads to roam around on. The logging roads were last used during the 2015 winter, so there should be some fairly open snowshoeing right on the property. The White Mountain National Forest is just to the south accessible near Pattee Brook Marsh and the Albany Notch Trail.

We had a bachelor party and the location and house could not have been more perfect. Plenty of beds (slept 13 guys very comfortably), the pond was right across the street and there was plenty of room to grill and hang out outside. Couldn’t recommend this place anymore!

Had a bachelor party for my friend and 10 others and this property was perfect. Clean, well stocked, and a 15 second walk from a great spot on the pond. The hot tub was always in top shape and was great for relaxing after a day in the pond. Would stay again if I’m ever in the area.

The outdoor space is amazing with the fire pit and hot tub! The kitchen gave us plenty of space for sharing meals and playing games. We splashed and floated in the pond.
This place provided plenty of hand soap, dish soap, trash bags, towels(bath&beach), toilet paper and paper towels. The in house laundry was a major plus with the pond right there!
Overall we were very happy with our stay!

This was a great location for our out of state family and friends to gather and celebrate. Spacious, clean and quiet. Both the care taker and property owner were ready and willing to help if needed.

The house was clean, well appointed and in a great location for an easy drive to Sunday River. Great family vacation.

Stayed here for a long weekend at Sunday River. House was great, close to everything, bedrooms are larger than photos make it seem, tons of room for all of us and our ski gear. Great communication as well. Would def come back!

We stayed here for my buddy’s bachelor party weekend. We had a big group of guys, so having 10 beds was great. The location is great, just a 5 minute ride into downtown Bethel. Nice pond directly across the street from the house too! The communication with the owner, Jim, was excellent and his caretaker lives in another house on the property, but you didn’t even know he was there. Overall great experience, will definitely book this house again in the future.

Our favorite part of this VRBO is it easily accommodates large groups and the pond access. I grew up vacationing on this pond and it never disappoints. Jim is quick to respond to any questions and he has done some nice updates with appliances and internet. We'll be back I'm sure.

It was for a bachelorette party so the property fit nicely into our budget. House is super clean and a lot more spacious than the pictures show. Everyone loved the hot tub and the pond.

One of my favorite stays. The house is perfect for a lot of people and there is so much to do at the house! The pond and hot tub were two of the best perks. Definitely recommend.

I would like to say first that the owner was incredibly responsive and helpful, even giving us a local garage to take care of an repair need for one of our vehicles. Plenty of space for everyone in the house. Hot tub was pristine. The dock on the pond sunk a bit, but didn't impede usage. just a gorgeous view on the pond. Close to markets, stores, and restaurants. A good experience for our family staying here.

This home is close to Sunday river. It took 15 mins. It was has a large kitchen area which is great for my group of 10 people. Hot tub was nice and someone cleaned it every morning. Plenty of dishes, pots/pans, cutlery. Only thing it needs more are bigger spoons for soup. Thank you Jim !

This was a great find at Sunday River to enjoy a ski weekend with friends. All the basics and then some are provided and the short drive to Sunday River was a big plus. Excellent host, friendly and responsive.

I don't write many reviews but this time I can't skip writing it. We rent a cottage from Jim Darden recently and I'm impressed with his hospitality, professionalism, and well-maintained beautiful property on the lake. We really enjoyed the time spent there, but back in Canada, my little daughter found she is missing her teddy bear. But thanks to Jim " Mimi" the little bear is on its way back home.
Thanks Jim definitely will be back

Had my bachelorette party this weekend. The pond is across route 5 from the house. The hot tub and fire pit are in the front yard. The care taker lives in part of the house. There is another house on the property that has a family in it. The owner was fabulous answering all my questions before we got there and getting more toilet paper to us. Overall it was a great experience. Just not exactly what I expected based off the pictures.

We had a group of 11 friends that stayed. We enjoyed our time a lot. We spent most of it on the dock enjoying the pond. Communication was easy and everything was clean. The pond has a nice sandy walk in, not deep enough to jump off but fun to float and swim around.

As a group of 10, we needed a place to bring our family with water to swim in nearby and an ability for older and a disabled older relative to feel comfortable. We had to be present in the house and at the pond at the same time and this large roomy living room and dining rm accommodated us easily. The owner was very available for any concern and we had peace and tranquility on the property. Beautiful weather and a great pond! Our few teenagers got to safely practice paddle boarding while older relatives took naps and the kitchen/dining room accommodated us easily.
We plan to visit again next year.

Our extended family of nine ranged in age from 10 to 75, and we all had a wonderful time. Jim the owner was very easy to communicate with all throughout our stay, very attentive to our needs and making sure everything was going well.
John, the caretaker on site, was also extremely helpful the whole time. We could walk over and speak to him directly if we had a problem or question, and he was always very helpful and happy to assist with anything.
The oven did not work out first night, but the burners worked fine, and the grill was awesome. John came over immediately to fix the oven. Our Wi-Fi was glitchy at first, but John again solved the problem as soon as possible, and it was totally fine for the rest of our stay.
The lake was lovely across the street with the private dock. The water was warm and clear, and very quiet and peaceful. The kids had the best time on the paddleboards, and the adults loved the canoe.
There were plenty of beds and bedrooms for everyone, and we packed a lot of fun into 4 days! We all had a great stay here in Maine :)

Great stay in Maine!
The property was extremely clean and the owner attentive. He raked the lake for us and brought out a stand up paddle board when I told him I was interested in trying it out. He also brought out a runner for my dog when he noticed that she was getting tangled on the lead that I brought. The pond is clean and shallow: great for little ones. There is very little sand; we sat and enjoyed the view from the dock. The street you cross to get to the pond is quite busy; just something to know if you're traveling with children. The house has plenty of space, bedding, towels...it is otherwise no frills. There is a hot tub and fire pit; the hot tub was extremely clean and easy to use. The owner and property manager were attentive to any need or question. The Bethel downtown area is sparse, but quaint. We happened to go on the weekend of summer fest; there was a festival on the common. I highly recommend the gem museum for young children and the Sunday River Brewing Co. which is near by. We were about 45 mins away from Santa's Village and various lakes / ponds. Hiking trails seemed abundant as well...Overall, we had a blast! I would recommend!

Songo Pond summer stay
We definitely enjoyed our stay at this home on Songo Pond. The owner checked in regularly to see if we needed anything or to make recommendations for local restaurants and hiking. Songo Pond is a beautiful body of water with homes evenly spaced around its perimeter, it is across the road which is a very short walk. Unfortunately, that road is very busy and used by large trucks which created noise. The house is surrounded by tall pines on 3 sides and we saw hummingbirds in the flower bed out front. The house is a great size and there was plenty of room to be together or have privacy and is geared towards hosting large groups of adults. Everything is very utilitarian, the furniture was clean, comfortable, and simple - there are no ornate finishings. There was plenty of bedding and towels for everyone. Either the owner or a previous guest left some toiletries and a fair amount of pantry items. The washer and dryer were really nice and helpful. We enjoyed the hot tub (the owner said a new cover is on order) the current cover was ripped and very heavy. The jets were really powerful and helped ease away the pains from our daily hikes. There was a picnic table, two grills, and extra chairs for seating on the patio. My favorite spot was definitely the dock and the owner let us use his canoe and two youth paddle-boards. I brought my own kayak and enjoyed riding it around to see the loons and turtles. The caretaker on site cleaned the hut tub daily and also suggested hiking in the area which we also enjoyed. Our favorite hikes were Step Falls and Round Mountain. I would definitely recommend this vacation rental to others.

Amazing
We came up as a group of 14 for a nice weekend during the foliage and this place did not disappoint. The house is very big and clean. Jim and Jon were great and always willing to help if we had any problems or just questions. There are so many activities to do from hiking, fishing, and kayaking. The view of Songo Pond from the dock is spectacular. I would definitely recommend.

Fabulous Lakeside Getaway
We were looking for a comfy vacation spot where we could bring dogs and extended family. This place fit the bill. The owner was SO easy to work with and there was a caretaker nearby who literally cleaned our hot tub daily and responded within minutes when we had concerns. Despite that we had plenty of privacy and a great time on the Songo Pond which is as big as a lake, serene and clean... we had a private dock where we could leave all of our stuff (paddleboards and floats) and often had sunset drinks there. The house is comfy--huge dining table and spacious living room with 4 couches. Our family enjoyed local mountainbiking, paddling, dining and kayaking. The house has a informal pollinator garden that welcomed Monarch butterflies while we were there. It was an idyllic spot,, beds were comfortable and plenty of space, great laundry 2 refrigerators.
Only 2 downsides travelers may want to know about--on a busy road (i wouldnt stay there with a wandering toddler) and water pressure is variable but didnt pose a problem for us.
we plan to go again--it would be a great ski house too

A great stay
A well-outfitted place, convenient to Bethel and the White Mountains. We were five adults, but the house easily accommodates more than twice that many. The large kitchen, dining table and living room would provide ample space for a larger group to gather. The lake is bit shallow for active swimming, but the water was refreshing and canoeing was pleasant. The owner, Jim, is pleasant and accommodating.

Fantastic and fun relaxing lake property
This house was fantastic for our laid back bachelorette party weekend! We loved floating in the lake, checking out a local brewery, and relaxing in the hot tub. Jim was so responsive and the house was perfect for our group of women.

Excellent Family Vacation
The house was large enough for all 11 of us with our 3 dogs. Plenty of space around the kitchen table as well. The pond is clean and refreshing. We spent a lot of time there swimming, padddle boarding and boating. There is a lot to do in the nearby towns and White Mountains. Screwauger Falls is a favorite with our kids who are adult kids now!

I spent 4 days, 3 nights here with my boyfriend, parents, and one puppy near the end of the summer! If you choose this property for your getaway, here are some things to look forward to!: -Easy to find location -Private dock with lots of floaties to use -Large kitchen/dining area -Knowledgable and responsive property owner -Hot tub! -Pet friendly -Covid-19 cleaning/sanitation procedures -Conveniently located to downtown & hiking trails -Board games/TV available -MORE than enough towels stocked, and a washer/dryer in case you run out -2 fridges and an ice machine to store drinks/food :) -Very new grill available to use Before you book, here are some things to note about the property: -Really uncomfortable (and squeaky beds) - was okay for the 3 nights we were there, but I wouldn't stay any longer than that -Property manager lives in a unit that is ATTACHED to the main house -Fire pit is REALLY large and difficult to sit around -Location on pond is not great for swimming - it's really shallow pretty far out, and there are a lot of plants that are not pleasant to wade through. Once you do get to the dropoff, you end up right next to a waterski course that is wise to steer clear of as a swimmer -SO. MANY. SPIDERS - all over the outside of the house and around the doors D: -Bring paper/plastic cups/plates/utensils because there isn't a lot these items in the kitchen, unless you're okay with doing a lot of dishes

Pros: great location, amazing hot tub, lovely lake with canoe and paddle boarding, wonderful communication and super friendly host
