We had a wonderful experience at this location. The apartment was clean and very comfortable. The location was very peaceful with superb views of the ocean (conveniently located close to the airport). Most major stores ie Walmart etc. are situated close by. We would highly recommend staying at this very comfortable and affordable apartment for short or long term stays.

This was an exceptional place to stay in Kona. It was far enough out of town and away from the beach so there was no cars driving by all night, no loud music, no sirens, no horns honking --- just listening to the frogs sing. Easy to sleep all night with the windows open and cool breeze coming in. The full kitchen was well equipped and had all we needed. I would definitely stay here again and this will be the first place i check when i book my next trip to the Big Island.

The one bedroom studio is downstairs from the homeowners who were very attentive but also did not hover over me during our stay. It was private with my own stovetop, toaster oven and microwave in the kitchen, and bathroom with shampoo, conditioner and body wash already provided. Lots of beach gear to use like snorkel gear, a surfboard, and towels even if I didn’t need to use them. I was also greeted with apple bananas, papayas and lychee during my first stay, and when I returned for a second check in a week later I had a huge local pineapple waiting for me. I appreciated that very much. Overall it was a very peaceful stay. There is a friendly cat and a family dog that are both adorable. I also caught a wild chicken and a coqui frog roaming the yard which were pretty cool. At night the sound of coqui frogs were at first a little difficult to sleep through but after the 3rd night they were like a musical serenade that put me to bed right away. The views overlooking the rest of the city and the ocean sunset were gorgeous from the top of the hill. And the local vegetation, including mangoes, bananas and papayas, or the avocados and tomatoes made this stay extra special. This stay was just what I needed and I’ll definitely be back!

Nice apartment, nice location, very good equipment
Unfortunately the bbq didn't work and the neighbor is a bit noisy from time to time.
At all we really enjoyed the time. Thank you. Maybe see you next time.

Room is big and clean, close to airport, 10 minutes drive to Costco. Trail and coffee farm nearby, also a food mart with 1 minute driving. Nice yard with fruit trees, bedroom facing sea, you can even watch sunset there. You can find everything you need in kitchen, and never feel hot inside the apartment, because it is in the mountain. Good place to spend 1 week there.

We were quite happy with our stay and would consider staying here again. I don't give out 5's easily, but can understand why many people rate this VRBO as a 5. The suite was clean (number 1 thing for us), and well equipped (number 2 thing for us). The only thing we missed was an oven.....maybe we should have taken note of that before we bought four frozen pizzas from Costco! We did manage to cook them in the toaster oven though.
The suite is located at 1500' above sea level, so it is cooler than the coastline. This is important if you are staying in a place without air conditioning. We never missed the air conditioning.
If you are a light sleeper, this may not be the place for you. We were sleeping with the windows open to enjoy the cool, but the frogs & birds are very loud; much louder than the geese or frogs we are familiar with in Canada. On two nights and early mornings, the upstairs host was loud, but it was largely drowned out by the frogs/birds. We wondered if we would be able to sleep with the frog noise, but none of us had any problem sleeping. If you have never heard wild life at night in Kona, it is quite the experience!
The suite had good road access. A sign to indicate where to park would be a quick/easy improvement to the stay, but we had that figured out after carefully reading the VRBO instructions a few times.
We met the hosts a couple times on the driveway. I thought there might be more questions on where we were from, how is your stay, etc. I found the lack of chit chat a bit awkward, but I am not that talkative, and conversation is a two way street. Whenever I texted Karen she was quick to respond and helpful. Lucky the cat came to visit us almost every day. We miss Lucky. Given the coat of hair on that cat, we think she might prefer Canada. Maybe?
The yard wasn't as neat and orderly as the suite. We didn't spend much time in the yard, but there was a table/chairs/etc outside. We borrowed the boogie boards, cooler, sun shade/umbrella, lawn chairs, and snorkel mask for the beach. We also made use of the laundry. Everything was good, but I suggest replacing one cooler as the handle came off on us a couple times, and adding 2 new boogie boards. There were 2 good boogie boards and several we didn't want to use (rough surface or cracked foam).
Overall, I want to thank the host for our stay. It met our expectations, and hopefully we get the pleasure of visiting the Big Island again.

Location is close to the Kona airport. Place is advertised for 4 people. We were 2 adults and 2 kids. There is 1 bed just enought for 2 adults. The other sofa bed is too small for even 2 kids.

The good: property in a quiet neighborhood about 6 miles from the resort area of Kona; nice garden, birdsongs all around; host very generous with lending beach equipment, had beers and wine and bits of garden fruits available; very well equipped kitchen; bathroom supplies good.
The bad: No restaurants and one market nearby so some people might want to be closer to tourist centers; no place to put toiletries in bathroom; sitting room had uncomfortable sofa and no coffee table and cramped eating area; little or no sound-proofing between basement apartment and upstairs; when the upstairs tenant was there there was a lot of stomping around, even sounded like pounding and furniture moving, one night as late as 3 a.m.

Authentic Hawaii
Karen and Roberts place gives you a real sense of what it’s like to live in Hawaii. This is real family life, with a beautiful cat, Lucky who comes to visit every morning. You have everything you need for cooking, the neighborhood is wonderful for walking, and the view of the Pacific is breathtaking.

Kona Palisades apartment
We enjoyed our stay in this 1 bedroom basement apartment. We were happy to find a place that accepted our 2 small dogs. The property is huge with lots of greenery and very secluded. Therefore it was great for our dogs! It’s at the 1500 foot level so much cooler and more cloudy/rainy than in town which we really enjoyed. Lots of great roads for evening walks. Our dogs LOVED all of the wild chickens and turkeys running free in the area. The owners were always very friendly and helpful. The unit was a comfortable size and had a full sized kitchen for cooking meals.

Beautiful, clean space with welcoming hosts
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay that feels like you’re staying with old friends, this is the place. The property itself is gorgeous-fruit trees, flowers, fire pit, amazing sunsets, all here. It was immaculately prepared for us with loads of extra towels and things to do, including beach gear. We never ever saw a bug inside and we were there for a month! Super convenient to be able to do your laundry on site and for free. They have a sweet little cat and an adorable dog who wears a different shirt everyday. The hosts were very communicative and fast acting when we needed something. Overall, the best home away from home we’ve ever experienced!

Karens place was everything we hoped for. Her apartment was quiet, well-stocked, beautiful, and welcoming. We felt safe and at home here, and it was just far away from downtown Kona to feel away from it all but just close enough that we didnt spend too much time driving around. We greatly appreciated being able to cook our own meals, brew coffee, borrow coolers and snorkel gear, etc. The hospitality we received was the best we had during our trip to the Big Island. We cant recommend this place enough. Thank you!

Fully stacked and big kitchen, garden furniture and really everything you would need on the beach. Its a little up the mountain, which means a nicer climate than on the coast. Kind hosts live upstairs, their wooden floor is a little noisy. Bring OFF if you want to sit outside, the garden is great. Would go back. Thanks Karen and Robert!

Very clean and feels like home
We greatly enjoyed our stay! Everything we could have needed down to toiletries and beach gear was right there. It really felt like a home away from home and the private entrance never made it feel like you were imposing on anyone's privacy. Thank you for your Kindness and generosity!

Clean, homey, stocked with all you'll need
We booked Karen's place when we needed to make a quick move from our previous rental without a chance to see it in person ahead of time. The photos on the site show it "like it is" and we enjoyed our stay there. The only drawback was some heavy footsteps upstairs in the evenings at times, but I can't fault owners with living their lives. Too late to add soundproofing. We appreciated the gas cook top, full size refrigerator and all the counter space compared to the place we had been.

Great Place for a great price
Our family stayed in this ohana suite for a week while searching for a long term rental. We have kids and I can say their property is very kid friendly. Lots of vegetation and fruit trees which we were given full permission to take what we wanted from. We were provided with a full household of utilities including pots, pans, plates, spices, blankets, beach toys, beach towels, you name it.
The property is about a ten minute drive from the airport and about fifteen minutes from downtown Kona. You do receive a guaranteed parking spot for one vehicle and there is plenty of open parking on the quiet street if you need additional spots.
If you're looking for a place to stay that isn't loud and is in a cooler climate, this is a good rental to pick.
