About this villa rental
Nestled in a tranquil neighborhood just 10 minutes from the Manuel Antonio National Park, Villa Michelina offers privacy, jungle views, and all the comforts of a luxurious retreat. Perfect for nature lovers and those seeking peace, the spacious terrace and pool deck provide ample space to soak up the sun, listen to the soothing sounds of a nearby creek and waterfall, and spot wildlife like monkeys, sloths, and birds. Experience the perfect blend of relaxation and nature in our beautiful home! You will not want to leave.
Villa Michelina boasts spacious rooms, with lots of light from high ceilings and windows, decorated with countless Balinese details and modern amenities.
The main floor has a spacious living area and a kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and custom made wooden cabinets.
The master suite, located just off the main living area, features a massive Indonesian antique head board and a bathroom in marble stone surface finishes furthermore easy access to the private terrace and down to the central pool and patio.
The other two bedrooms are located on the other side of the main living area and are accessed down the stairs from the living. The two rooms share an appointed bathroom.
The expansive pool features a 2 ft wading pool above which flows into the main pool. Perfect for those looking just to stay cool! There is year-round creek that runs through the property. There are trails leading from the terrace down to waterfall, creek and lush jungle.
This is not just an average rental villa. Its also our home away from home therefore we keep it in the best condition!
Most of our guests choose to rent a vehicle during their stay. While taxi’s are plentiful and available, having a rental car is often a more economical and practical approach to exploring the local area. We recommend utilizing a 4×4 vehicle to access the house and explore the off the beaten paths and bumpy Costa Rican roads. Our Concierge can assist in setting up any car rental services and can have the car delivered to you.
Housekeeping service is provided every other day with the exception of Sunday's and Costa Rican holidays.
House is sourced with private well water. Guests are suggested to bring bottled water.

My family of 6 (17yoB, 15yoG, 13yoG, 9yoG) had a wonderful stay. The location is really special up and down some steep roads (4x4 required!) but this is a beautiful home up in the rain forest. Morning coffee out on the patio was my favorite. Some days were limited activity in the forest (probably due to rain) but other days (less rain) were super active with birds and monkeys. Both were great! We had some great pool time and the kitchen was well set up as it was easier (and more affordable) to make it at home!
Andrey was very helpful re: access and excursions including remembering my daughter is Celiac when booking an excursion with food!

Amazing, peaceful experience. Loved it. Exactly the remote jungle experience we wanted. Fell asleep at night listening to the sounds of the jungle. My wife and our fours kids will always have fond memories of this property. We stayed a week. A note about the road conditions: we had a Toyota Rush with two wheel drive automatic transmission. It was was fine getting to and from the house. I can see how a 4x4 would be better, but from our experience a 4x4 was not necessary. Great time.

Stayed in Quepos in June 2023. The house was hard to access (VERY hard by American standards), and 4X4 is necessary, but when we arrived… so gorgeous! It was like a Balinese mansion rising from the jungle. The pool was perfect for hot days, and toucans and birds were flitting about the backyard our entire stay. The staff were incredibly helpful as well. Can’t recommend enough!

This is an absolutely wonderful villa, the photos do not do it justice! It was the perfect amount of space to make our holiday relaxing for our family of five. The separation between the primary bedroom and other two is great for families with older kids, while the locks on all the doors with pool access is a thoughtful gesture for those with younger kids. Ours are in the middle and they absolutely LOVED this house and having their own quarters. The high ceilings make it feel very grand and spacious.
The housekeeping team take fantastic care of the property and its guests - the towels or laundry mentioned in previous reviews was a non-issue for us thanks to them.
Check in and out was a breeze and concierge was available for any of our needs; overall a very hospitable team!
The driveway is definitely a challenge but not an issue with the right car. We loved the location in that it was away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip but still only a few minutes away from it when we wanted - same for the beaches. It was amazing being nestled in the forest and visited by the wildlife, including a monkey!
Such a lovely stay and experience, would highly recommend!

Pros:
- Wonderful customer service! The host and Raimund were so helpful and responded right away to questions/concerns.
- Extremely spacious.
- They provided cleaners (included in the cost) every other day which was really nice. They also did laundry for us if we left a tip.
- The pool area was beautiful.
- It is a true “jungle” experience!
- Great AC!
- Alarm system on home which made us feel extra safe (although it felt very safe anyways)
Cons:
- The location indicator on the listing is way off. One of the main reasons we booked this house is because we thought it was walking distance to bars and restaurants in Manuel Antonio however, it was not walking distance whatsoever for an average person. We would have never booked this place if we knew the true location. It was in the “middle of nowhere” about 8 minutes from the top of the hill in MA, but it is either straight down or straight up so walking would be so very difficult especially if you are not use to all the heat.
- The way the house is built (maybe it’s the Indonesian style?) has a gap to the outdoors between the roof and walls (which they did try to patch with boards and it helped but did not solve 100%) which allowed more than average bugs and critters into the home(small lizards, frogs, and we even had a bat fly in our first night).
- the interior is a bit dated, though it’s unique and of high quality furnishings and decor
-- Some of kitchen stuff was very poor quality

Location is a big problem. Guy could not take us to the house. I will never stay there again

As the other reviews all stated, you definitely need a 4x4 to navigate the roads getting to the house. Some of the roads are not paved and have been washed out that have very deep pot holes- take full insurance out on your rental car!!! The house itself is very unique, sitting below the driveway landing on the hill with beautiful views of the rain forest. We loved floating in the pool enjoying the natural setting. There are many unusual art pieces, custom furniture, and special additions to the house, but the house is a bit dated, although nothing that would prevent staying here. The kitchen appearance is nice, but the kitchen cooking equipment is well below standards for this type of property (old pans, pots, and limited extras one comes to expect in a VRBO). We did not see monkeys during our week, but we did see toucans, parrots and many butterflies. Inside the house we experienced a scorpion in the bedroom, an iguana, a huge spider and a bat that left droppings over the furniture and counters all week (I guess this is the norm for Costa Rica). The Conceirge, Andres, was awesome and very helpful- at all hours and even coming through for us with last minute plans. We stayed the end of July/beginning of August and it rained every day. Only 2 of the days were a washout where tour plans had to be cancelled, otherwise, the rain was not a deterrent for us. One request for the owner/property management company- why not let the renters use the washer/dryer that is on premise? There is nowhere to hang wet towels, bathing suits, clothes
(outside not an option because of the frequent rain)…we found ourselves lacking dry towels all week and clothes that took days to dry out. At the minimum, we would have appreciated being able to throw our wet gear into a dryer. I gave the review 4 stars because of the kitchen & washer/dryer limitations, but otherwise, this is a wonderful house giving my family, a very unique experience. Much appreciated and hope you will have us back one day!

Our family had an incredible stay at Villa Michelina. The property is bigger and more beautiful than the pictures show. It offered privacy within minutes of all the beaches, restaurants and attractions. We also enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen.
The kids spent hours playing in the pool and looking for wildlife in the backyard. During our stay, we were visited by a family of capuchin monkeys, iguanas, toucans, hummingbirds and many other birds. On our last day, a huge group of squirrel monkeys were in the area and some came onto the back patio with us. Having wildlife so close to us was a highlight of our trip.
Mariana, Jorge and the cleaning staff were also amazing and helped us arrange everything we needed, including grocery orders and restaurant recommendations.
As others have said, there is a steep driveway but it was part of our adventure!
If we return to Manuel Antonio, we will definitely stay at Villa Michelina! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Mariana was an incredible host and Diego was a phenomenal chef.

Villa Michelina was excellent for our week long stay in Manuel Antonio. The master suite is nicely separated from the other two bedrooms. Pool was was great. Setting was great. Driveway was fun to drive. Definitely rent a 4x4 vehicle. Driveway to and from is steeeeeep, and fun! Villa is a 5 minute drive from Quepos and all the restaurants on the way to Manuel Antonio park and beaches. Location is nicely secluded yet close to it all.
Only negative I have is that I wish the washer/dryer were accessible.
The property is managed by the 2Costa Rica Vacation Rentals team and can't say enough good things about Hazel and Mariana. A wealth of information and extremely helpful with booking excursions and suggesting restaurants.
If you want to be surrounded by lush vegetation, yet close to it all, this well appointed Villa is the place to stay.
Excited to explore other parts of Costa Rica next time.
Thanks again to 2Costa Rica Vacation Rentals team!

Beautiful comfortable completely private property well equipped for relaxing, swimming, cooking and sleeping. Wildlife abounds too! The property manager, Mariana, took very good care of us. Very close to heart of Manuel Antonio that can be accessed by foot if in good shape and in 5-10 minutes by car.
The driveway, and the road leading up to the house are not for the faint hearted. Be prepared to use your 4x4 to its fullest and to go through many potholes on the road in out of the neighborhood. Also, the house is supplied by well water-we were told to use bottled water.
We loved the area, the house and the warmth of the Costa Rican people. Thank you.

Lovely home for a family retreat. The house is huge and the pool area is great if you don’t wanna leave the house and rest for a day. We saw lizards, a monkey and a hummingbird. The jungle setting is spectacular. Mariana welcomed us and we felt very well taken care of.
The driveway is really steep and when we arrived we were a little scared that our SUV BMW X1 4x2 wouldn’t make it. In summer it’s definitely possible to get to the house with a 4x2 SUV and the driveway isn’t as terrible as described in other reviews. For costa rican standards the road is in good condition and nothing to be afraid of it you’re an experienced driver.
All in all we loved our stay at Villa Michelina and would definitely stay here again.

Lovely home, lots of space, quiet neighborhood within a short drive to beach

This house was perfect before a family of four. Easy to get to town, beaches, markets. Loved being able to choose whether we wanted to cook in or dine out. But highly recommend and will definitely stay here again.

There is really no need to look anywhere further. This house was a dream come true. Only four of us and was way too big for our needs but for the price we couldn’t beat it. Our own private pool. All beds comfortable. Two king beds in two separate rooms. Felt like you were truly in the jungle. Monkeys on our porch while we swim. From the moment we walked in the house we were totally taken care of by the staff. If we had one issue come up it was literally resolved within 10 minutes. We arrived here late one night without food and our gal who met us there had food delivered to our house within 30 minutes. I mean seriously could not have dropped up a better place. We cannot wait to come back!!’

Everyone I worked with while planning our stay at Villa Michelina and while we were there was wonderful. Before we arrived, Hazel and Mariana helped us book several excursions and in home spa/chef services, as well as assisting us in booking our Covid tests to return home. Communication was flawless. We could not have asked for more.
The description says you need a 4 x 4 to manage the driveway. This is NO JOKE! The driveway is steep and take your breath away terrifying. It IS something you get used to, eventually, but it is certainly the scariest driveway we have ever encountered.
Once your heart starts beating again, the house, itself, is jaw-droppingly amazing. It is huge and grand and definitely the nicest home we have ever stayed in. The cathedral ceilings, beautiful furniture, and fixtures had us feeling very posh! The pool and deck area is gorgeous. We saw monkeys, toucans, and a couple lizards, who seemed to have their assigned spots on the deck. All in all, it was a wonderful, wonderful stay!

I can’t say enough about our stay at Villa Michellina. The house was amazing. We appreciated the primary bedroom being on the other side of the house from the children’s bedroom. Our children (10, 14) like to sleep late and we didn’t disturb them when we woke up. The kitchen had everything we needed. Before getting to the villa, the driver stopped at the supermarket so we can food and drinks. The pool was perfect even though the tiling is coming up. My daughter enjoyed jumping from the wading pool area. We also enjoyed sitting on the pool deck looking for wildlife. We saw iguanas, toucans, squirrel monkeys, macaws, a scorpion and other cool birds and butterflies. We ate at El Avion which is an old airplane, and Ronny’s Place, they both had great sunsets. We also ate at Gabriella’s in the marina.
The villa was a short taxi ride to the beach. We really liked Buena Vista beach, it was a beach with a beach bar.
Before we arrived, Hazel planned our transfers and excursions. When we arrived, Mariana met us at the villa. She was our lifesaver when we needed reservations and taxis or anything else. We mainly had one taxi driver, Cesar, who was familiar with the area and very hospitable.
The only downfall is you need a 4x4 vehicle to get to the villa. The hills around the villa are very steep. That being said, you are in an oasis all your own in the rain forest.

Awesome rental! Everything was even better than picture! Beautiful home. We had 5 adults staying and it was perfect. Would highly recommend. Any questions we had were answered immediately. We saw monkeys, lizards, birds, and the jungle comes to life at night with amazing sounds.

My husband and I stayed in this gorgeous, emaculate home with our adult children. The master suite was luxurious with a huge master bath with a gorgeous shower looking out into the jungle. The pool was refreshing day and night and the only sounds we heard were from nature. A true relaxing getaway. The only negatives were the many huge doors with locks that could be a bit tricky to open and close and it was possible to lock yourself out of the two bedrooms that were not adjoining the main home. On the plus side, it did afford the other guests with privacy. The air conditioning in the main room could have been cooler(, however all the bedrooms were cool and very comfortable. In terms of wildlife, no monkeys on the property during our stay but saw a resident sloth down the road! Would love to return someday!

This property is truly the most beautiful home we have stayed in when using VRBO. The owners have spared no expense on this home, it is so beautifully decorated and you can see that every piece was thought about in great detail. On another note, Elizabeth and Hazel have been outstanding to work with, both are so great about responding quickly and Hazel has been amazing about setting up all of the amazing activities on this trip! The only thing I will mention, as other reviewers have, is that the layout is not suitable for much younger children because the spare bedrooms are in another part of the house. My kids are 13 and 11, so they were fine.Thank you for a beautiful and restful stay!
