Unique location on a small island, a two-minute water taxi ride from the Christiansted boardwalk. Large beach area with BBQ and bar. Rooms are well-appointed for the value.
The hotel is under renovation and needs additional work.
5.0
Did not have breakfast options during our visit. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The service was exceptional, and the ambiance was very romantic.
Having a restaurant, at least for breakfast would have been good. We had to get off the island to have breakfast.

the location is perfect. location and view from our standard room gets 5/5.
the staff were not very helpful or friendly. anytime I had a question or request I felt like I was bothering my super to fix my garbage disposal.

I love the location, the fact that is a private beach with a beautiful view of the water and boardwalk across. Also, the staff especially Ms. Sarah
I didn’t like the water activities weren’t on. My room was overlooking the beach but the water activities were right in front of my balcony as well
2.0
The beach
The property is very old and my flight was delayed for one of the days and I didn’t get a refund. The front desk closes at 8 and on-site store closes at 3.

The only thing I'd change or add is having salt n pepper and the option of a hot plate for extended stays.

The staff was wonderful
The pool was out of order. It has been out of order for a while. That was suppose to be posted on booking just so we know.
4.5
The location and views from the hotel. The friendly staff. The room size was fine.
Pool wasn't open but the beach is and it sits on the beach!

The good: the beach on the Cay (Hotel On The Cay" is beautiful and if you go in the morning or late afternoon you get a little privacy. The ferry back and forth to the mainland was great. You never had to wait more than a couple of minutes. The ferry captains were always helpful. The great meals from the lady in the food truck from 8PM until 11PM Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sat. and Sunday. Unfortunately, we found the truck at the taxi stand on Sunday night, so we only ate there once. $16 for large meal and $10 for small. Great price. Great food. The iguanas were cool. They were all over the place. The view from the 2nd floor hotel room was great (bay view with boats and city lights at night). Sand was well manicured. Refrigerator in room was nice. Security box worked well. King-sized bed nice. Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Cleaning lady very nice. Room decent size
Some of the staff were not friendly at all. That also went for the sales girls at the Mini-Mart. Our first room was somewhat run down: TV quality not good, sliding glass doors didn't lock, air conditioning broke down (we were given another room after 1 1/2 hours). Second room which was next door seemed less run down. We were told not to touch the air conditioning which meant during the evening we froze. the 2nd room's TV control did not work and the TV controls on the set were super hard to work as well. The pool was empty of water. The waterfalls ponds were devoid of water. Hopefully, some day the hotel will be renivated. We at there a lot to save money because Christiansted's restaurants charge an arm and a leg. We paid $75 for two for just an entree and non-alcoholic drink at the little outside restaurant next to the Coco Loco restaurant. Actually, we were ripped-off by the man who ran the drinks stand connected to this restaurant. Terrible food. The Savant Restaurant cost us $126 for two. One non-alcoholic drink, a lobster-filled appetizer, and yellow-fin tuna entree. The food was great but come on: the daily special was just read to us. We did not ask what the price was thinking it was special "deal" but ended up costing us $45 for the entree. Hahaha. So, we went to the Mini-Mart and walked once a long distance to the SeaSide food mart where we purchased quite a bit of bologna, bread, a little fruit and ate breakfast in the room and lunch and just ate out once a day to save money. Room cost more than $200/night after taxes. Definitely not work it. Beard's snorkeling was great: Buck Island. Sweeney's sightseeing tour was nice but not great. He did a great job, however, with answering questions and telling history of island. He knew everything. Wanted to do the Wednesday night buffet/steel band shindig on island but didn't know about it.

The staff was very helpful, and friendly! The facility was always clean, had great accommodations-just needs updating. I would certainly return for vacation.
Needs updating- at least start with painting the building to brighten it up, and more vibrant landscape. Balconies needs some attention ASAP.

We had such a great time. I surprised my husband by not telling him that we had to get on and off the island where the hotel was located by boat. 24 hours service. He loved it! So yes the hotel is on an island off St.Croix main island lol Ok so the minute we got there check in was easy despite our flight being delayed so we got there about 8 pm. Our room was on the 3rd floor toward the back. Just want to say the minute we walked in the AC was on, the room was cool and fresh the room smelled wonderful everything was clean I didn’t see any bugs at all throughout our stay. Everything Worked microwave they had a toaster oven television AC hot water and a fridge, everything everything worked. We had a balcony looking out to the beautiful water, we cannot complain about anything, everything was just the bed was comfortable everything was really good. The staff were very sweet and pleasant. Location was perfect. Breakfast Lunch and Dinner on the main island. And you have your on private beach on the cay. And most of all very reasonable.. Oh And a tiki bar too
Yes I knew the pool wasn’t in service because of Hurricane Maria. But if they got that fixed that would have be the icing on the cake. But I already knew this but we were so busy that it was ok

The Water Taxi Captains were amazing! Hats off to Noel, Miles and Roger who made our trip excellent! The hospitality from EVERYONE was AMAZING! We all highly recommend Hotel on the Cay!
Our AC went out which is to be expected at times, I too am in the hotel industry, but we were quickly moved and followed up on to be sure the next room met our expectations

This hotel is in the ideal location. You simply walk down from your room and you are on the beach. The beach bar is great too. I read many reviews stating that the hotel is in need of repairs and renovations... all of which is definitely true, but the location makes this your best hotel choice in Christiansted. Other hotels will have you taking a water ferry to the beach instead of simply walking to it from your room.
Make no mistake, if you like fine luxury hotels, this is not it. It is clean and adequate, which is the best I can say about it. However, the staff is friendly, the bar is fun, and the BBQ during the daytime is awesome. You just have to understand that you are trading off having the best location in the city for an old, rundown hotel. But clean. That is not a worry. Also, when we made our plans, our biggest concern was having to rely on a boat ferry to take us from the hotel to the city and back. It was no problem at all. The entire boat ride is maybe 3 minutes and they run all day until midnight. So don't let that concern you.

Everything except no food service
Will stay again
No food service or restaurant to eat dinner.
Bar had a ribs and wings place- but if you are a vegetarian... the pnly option was the same veggie burger every day. It WAS actually a great veggie burger though!
4.5
We did not receive any breakfast but the location was great! The view was amazing and the hotel was close to everything we needed!
I didn't like the fact that I couldn't use the balcony as much because the second I opened the door iguanas would come rushing toward us. It would've been nice if the pool was open but not a big deal since we were right on the beach!

proximity to beach, ease of travel to boardwalk, spacious room, kitchenette

Location is great. Loved rhe beach on rhe cay and rhe boat ride back and forth to christenstead.
Place needs renovation. Pool didn't work. Upstairs neighbor sliding door was so loud when opening.

The views from this hotel are magnificent. Went back for a Fire show with a huge buffet. Excellent! Going back, and will spend more time on their great beach + bar.
Would have been nice to have water in the pools. They had a blue color, so that helped.
