About this house rental
*** Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine's Favourite Place to Stay in Mudgee 2019 ***
Catering on an exclusive use basis for up to two couples, with open fires, a fabulous dining room, modern kitchen, claw-foot bathroom, delightful rear garden and comfortable beds - all complimenting the simple style of the early Victorian era.
Enjoy the peace and quiet, luxury setting and handy location for a very special Mudgee getaway.
Exquisite country accommodation in the heart of Mudgee
In 1858 a saddler by trade, James Dixon Little was operating the Australian Tannery at the rear of this site and it is believed that the present cottage was built by Little in the late 1850's as accommodation for workers at the tannery.
The cottage, though now renovated, has retained much of its natural charm. Catering for one or two couples, there is a comfortable lounge with open fire, two bedrooms with luxurious linen, comfortable beds (one queen and one double), a superbly finished bathroom with deep claw foot bath, fabulous dining room and large well-equipped industrial stainless steel kitchen, with second large fan-forced fireplace, all complimenting the simple style of the early Victorian era.
Enjoy the enclosed garden with covered verandah to sit and read the papers, sip a cup of tea or coffee, before strolling down the quiet Lawson Street to the town centre, the local markets, one of the many cafes, Roths Wine Bar, or the nearby Oriental Hotel. Country living in the heart of town - the best of both worlds.
With off street parking, TV/DVD/CD, wifi.
Tariff includes quality linen, standard kitchen provisions.
The Tannery is set up for adults and not suited for children. Note that the bedding comprises one queen and one double bed that are unable to be split to singles. Due to its heritage nature, The Tannery is not suitable for easy disabled access, in particular to clawfoot bath shower facility.
Rates are actually calculated based on booking for one or two rooms/couples so the pricing for two singles may be calculated incorrectly in this system - we will confirm upon booking request.
Minimum two night stay. Pets are not permitted.

Darren provided so much information prior to the stay. Great little cottage

The Tannery is old world charm and is a home away from home. It boasts a well appointed kitchen with great cooking utensils, condiments and of course coffee. It is walking distance to the main centre of town so you can leave the car behind. I will definitely be back.

What a treat to stay in such a cute and historic home- thanks Darren for all the extras, especially the recommendations for food, wineries etc. We loved having a long lunch in the backyard with produce gathered from the Mudgee food scene. The house was cosy with the snap cold front, and the bed super comfy. A perfect place to end our cycle trip through the region.

The Tannery was a great place to stay for our short break, comfortable and cosy with a great deal of character and well located close to town. It’s beautifully appointed with a super comfy bed and good linen and a great kitchen for cooking.
Too cold to enjoy the garden but for warmer days it would be lovely to sit out there and relax.

The Tannery was absolutely gorgeous! The moment we walked in the door I felt at home. The attention to detail was outstanding - there was nothing Darren had not thought of, the fire place was even set up for us to sit by a real fire as soon as we got there.
The location is perfect - we could walk everywhere in town and were so close to all the beautiful wineries. I will definitely stay here again and will be recommending it to anyone I know going to Mudgee. Thank you so much Darren.

well presented, stylish, clean, modernised 19th century house, for the young its great, but for older folk, i suggest fans in the ceiling. some railings for safety, especially trying to get in and out of a deep bath, where shower is.
The complimentary bottles of wine and port make you forget about these tiny flaws though ! *excellent wine"

Central and peaceful
Absolutely loved our stay at The Tannery. Quaint house with all of the charm you want for a long weekend getaway, and still central enough that you can walk to the Main Street for dinner. The fireplaces kept us toasty warm and the backyard was a lovely spot for an afternoon cup of tea and game of bocce. Hope to visit again soon

Luxurious and unique historical accommodation
An extremely clean and tidy, beautifully appointed and comfortable cottage that was surprisingly warm without heating, given the cold temperatures. A great central location and arriving to lots of fruit, wine and Tim tams was a treat. Highly recommended.
