About this villa rental
Villa Matilde is a superb farmhouse in the medieval hamlet of S. Andrea di Compito, south of Lucca. With its stone facades set amid cypress trees, colourful gardens, and majestic vistas, the villa evokes the quintessential character of antique Tuscany. Beautifully restored and renovated interiors provide a comfortable vacation home infused with rustic charm, lovely living and dining areas both in the main villa and in the adjacent hayloft.
Built gracefully into the hills at just 10 mins from Lucca, the villa's intimate terraces and gardens beckon you into the Tuscan sun. Plunge into the swimming pool and relax on lounge chairs beneath the blue sky at the top of the hill. Withdraw into the shaded gazebo for cool drinks and delectable lunches from the well-appointed indoor kitchen. In the evening, gather in the veranda adjoining the villa's dining room, relishing local wine and alfresco dinners as the sun sets over Lucca just over the antique bell tower in the garden which dates back to 1200s.
French doors imbue the home's interiors with gentle summer breezes and exquisite light. The décor is a lovely mélange of period pieces and modern artwork, forming an ambiance at once elegant and welcoming. Heating and air conditioning keep you comfortable in all seasons.
In the main house, the master bedroom features a double large size bed and a second bedroom with a double French size bed along with two bathrooms. A fully equipped kitchen, a living room and a dining room completes the main house. The adjacent hayloft features a veranda/living room with grand glass doors, another dining room, a laundry room with washing machine and clothes dryer, a bathroom and upstairs panoramic bedroom with glass all around with a large double bed.
Villa Matilde is just a two-minute walk into the ancient hamlet of S. Andrea di Compito known for its architectural beauty and for the antique gardens hosting majestic Japanese Camellia trees brought in the gardens of the local villas in the 18th century directly from Asia. Two restaurants are located close by (walking distance) as well as a baker and a grocery store selling local food. More shops, restaurants, supermarkets, groceries, ice cream shops and pizzerias are located within 5 minutes by car.
All of Tuscany has to offer including traditional cuisine and artistic culture such as Pisa, San Gimignano, Cinque Terre, Volterra, Florence, Siena, Montecatini Terme, Pistoia and the beautiful beaches of Versilia with Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio and Lido di Camaiore are located between 30 mins and 1 and a half hour drive away (and most sites are even more easily reachable by train).
The whole property is rented to only 1 party per time so privacy is never compromised.

As an adult family of 6 we have enjoyed a lovely 10 days holiday in Villa Matilde.
We love visited Lucca, FLorence, Viareggio and a local vineyard but also enjoyed great relaxing days by the pool!
It is also a great idea to just walk around the immediate village and see the beautiful views.
It's a shame that the Church wasn't open when we went.

It was our first visit to Tuscany and exceeded all expectations. Our group consisted of 6 adults and one baby, Villa Matilde ticked all boxes. It was set in a very picturesque area in the Lucca hills, with breathtaking views. It was very much tranquil, perfect for relaxing. Short drive from Pisa airport. Very close to Lucca and city of Pisa. We loved the gardens, the pool and in particular the gazebo dining area, which allowed for plenty of el fresco dining. The accommodation itself is full of rustic character and was very comfortable. The annexe was a great feature. Monica was a fabulous host. Great communications before and during the stay. Would highly recommend Villa Matilde to anyone looking for a luxurious slice of Tuscany.

So not to tear up writing this review, I will simply copy what I wrote in the guest book...

We are equal parts hearts full and cup runneth over, while also heartbroken at the very same time with thoughts of leaving tomorrow.
When we arrived at Villa Matilde after two weeks in country, we knew we had left the best for last...but then our expectations and dreams were even surpassed! I lost count of how many times I uttered "is this even real?"
I will dream of this place until I return, my belle Toscana! You have my heart!
Grazie mille un milione di volte!
(We traveled as two adults and two teen boys)
IF I HAD TO think of anything to make this spot more magical...maybe a swing.
