Great location with the clasic cottage feel.

The owner was great and very communicative. The house location was great. We enjoyed our morning walk to the Main Street for coffee and such. The house was what you’d expect on the island…old but cute. Everything was as described and the owners food recommendations were spot on. Only wish there was a bathroom on the second floor but that’s an old house for you! Wonderful stay and vacation!.

The location of the property is ideal - walkable to many excellent shops, stores, and dining options. There are many great spaces to convene, including the porch, a back patio with table and chairs, kitchen table, dining table, and living room. The property owners are very responsive and thoughtful. Checking in and out was a breeze.

Perfect location walkable to downtown and beaches. Lovely private outdoor area to hang and plenty of space inside for our family of 4 including 2 kids.

This was our first trip to Martha's Vineyard. I recommend this rental. The location is excellent, within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and the Vineyard Haven ferry. Oak Bluffs and Edgartown are short 10 minute drives away.
The rental is cozy and the beds were comfortable. Nothing is fancy -- it's a beach cottage -- so as long as that's what you want, you'll be happy. Note that the staircase is very narrow and the only bathroom is downstairs. That would make me nervous to rent if I had kids younger than 4-5, or anyone with mobility challenges.
The property manager and owner are both very friendly and communicate actively.
Thanks!

Well equipped home, updated kitchen. Bathroom on main floor is a tad inconvenient for upstairs bedrooms. Outdoor shower was amazing and wonderful. There’s a table and chairs in the attached shed/closet that we used to add seating to the deck which worked well. I bet there was a way to use speakers outside but I didn’t see it - that would have been awesome. Some little holes that could be sealed up in kitchen. Overall excellent!

We enjoyed our stay in this property. It was great to be able to walk to downtown Vineyard Haven and not worry about finding a parking spot. The big dining room table was a plus for us because we brought and played lots of board games. The outdoor shower was a morning treat!

Our stay was amazing! This house has plenty of space with 4 bedrooms, great indoor and outdoor space. The location is perfect, we walked into town and had breakfast at the Black Dog. Close to downtown. Would definitely recommend!! The owner and management gave us their contact info in case we needed anything. Very friendly! Thank you Brian and Annette, we had a great week!

Loved the walking distance to town, great back deck and outdoor shower, the kitchen was stocked with everything we could need. The owner and rental agent were very responsive when we thought we left an item behind. We are not used to no central air but the rooms have AC units and cooled quickly. The beds were very comfortable.

We loved our stay in this house! It was perfect for our family of 3 teen boys -- clean, cozy, easy & beyond well-equipped for our every need. We especially enjoyed the comfy beds, bike shed & outdoor patio! And the location can't be beat. Easy access to absolutely everything. We're so glad we stayed in this gem of a house!

This is a very old house with some charm but overall not for everyone. For us, we booked three nights, and left after one. I read about the narrow old staircase, however, the listing doesn’t describe the extreme incline and shallowness of it. For my partner and me, that made it a dangerous proposition, ascending and descending, especially at night, so if you’re someone who needs the bathroom at night, it just doesn’t work. As a result, we had to split up with one of us in the downstairs twin, and the other on a not-so-comfortable couch. My partner sneezed, coughed, and had a stuffy nose all night, and he doesn’t have allergies. These symptoms stopped after we left the house.

This adorable home was perfect for our family of 5 (including our 3 teenage boys) for a long weekend stay. There were plenty of very comfy clean beds for all of us and the house had everything we needed. While we did not have meals at home, if we did cook we definitely would have had everything we needed, including spices! The Keurig coffee machine was perfect so that we could enjoy a cup out on the adorable peaceful porch in the morning before walking down into town for breakfast. The weather was not overly hot while we were there but on one particularly warm night, the fans and AC in the rooms cooled things off nicely. The boys threw a football around in the yard when we weren't out sightseeing which was great to get them off screens, so the yard alone was fantastic! :) On one rainy evening we enjoyed a family movie with the TV and available streaming apps. We were there for a long weekend for a wedding but definitely would recommend this house for a week-long trip and hope to go again. The house is on a quiet street but still close enough to walk to town which we did quite a bit. Unless you have physical limitations that would make the stairs an issue I don't think they should be a factor as other reviews may have stated. It's par for the course in a quaint older home and the amount of time we were upstairs was just to sleep. Whether you are out and about around the island or taking the time to enjoy the beautiful, private yard/deck area I HIGHLY recommend it!!

My husband and I stayed here with our two young daughters. We made excellent use of the deck, grill and backyard space. We also appreciated the nearby playgrounds, short walk to town, and the outdoor shower. We plan to return next summer!

The good, the eh, the ugly.
I hesitate to share bad info on a rental. There was both good and bad here … and everyone has different standards and needs. This place may be perfectly acceptable to some. We were highly encouraged to stay out and explore everything the island has to offer.
Let me start with the good. The location is super convenient. You can walk to downtown. The outdoor shower is really great! We literally only showered outside - it was much nicer than the shower inside and there is something special about showering under the blue skies. The outdoor spaces are nice. There is a deck, a good yard space and a grill. The backyard table is lovely for dinner. There are beach supplies like chairs, blankets, umbrella available to use. There is also off street parking which is a hot commodity. There is a Keurig and all the appliances that we used worked well.
The eh …. I expected an old building. I expected a well loved beach house vibe. I did not expect such limited places to put our belongings. It’s a good thing we didn’t pack much. All the closets, cabinets and dressers were packed to the gills. Think junk drawer times 20. To be fair/ there were a couple of dresser drawers with some space to put some clothes. It just would have been nice to have a few additional free spaces to put our things.
I had planned on washing clothes on our trip. I decided not to because the washing machine available is a portable unit that you have to pull out of the closet and set up in the bathroom using the sink and the tub. I’m sure it isn’t difficult but it seemed annoying and time consuming for one or two loads of swimsuits. Just be aware of that and plan accordingly.
The ugly …. Old houses are lovely and charming but need constant maintenance. Unfortunately this house has not been constantly maintained. There are rotting thresholds, rotting window casements, “mouse holes” in the walls, mold under the sink, mold in the ac unit etc. We had a mouse leave us some presents and ants come up through the kitchen sink. Watching a mouse scurry through the house was not what we expected.
The beds are not comfortable. I am pretty sure one of the box springs has been eaten by mice. The stairs are terrifyingly steep and narrow which was a bit of a stressor since we have kids who sleep walk. There was either blood or red paint all over the wall over one of the beds.
We will go back to the vineyard but we will find another place to stay.

This was a great house to stay in lots of space. It was really nice having a bedroom down stairs as well as a large bathroom downstairs. It was easy to communicate with the owner who was very responsive through email!!the AC in the down stairs bedroom and upstairs bedroom was great as we were there during a heat wave. The other 2 bedrooms were hot and we ended up not using them all bunking together in the other rooms. The walk to town was short. I enjoyed walking to town each morning to get coffee! The town is a smaller version of oaks bluff having mad maddies ice cream and a few other shops you find in oaks bluff. If you love Martha’s vineyard this cottage was a great place to stay.

Quaint cottage within walking distance to Vineyard Haven and shops/restaurants. We enjoyed being so close to town and walking to shop and eat. We also loved using the outdoor shower. Cottage size was enough for a family of four for a weeklong vacation. Greatly enjoyed our stay!

I stayed here with my husband and three sons. My husband and I shared a room while my boys each had a room of their own. The two air conditioning units were more than adequate to cool off the entire house when needed. It was a short walk or bike ride for groceries or to explore downtown Vineyard Haven. My entire family loved the outdoor shower! Lovely place to make Vineyard memories.

This is a quintessential old house on Martha’s Vineyard near Vineyard Haven. Owner is not the person who originally lived here. Is a little cluttered with old things. There is a Keurig but no coffee maker. Mattresses could use an upgrade; seemed very worn. Comforters are provided but they had stains so we luckily brought our own. We also arrived to a dirty house and had to contact the owner ASAP, and apparently the cleaning service missed it on their list. We couldn’t use it until after 7pm that first day. I couldn’t nap my toddler as we had hoped, or freshen up before dinner, and we received no compensation. There is one bathroom on the first floor in the back off the kitchen and the stairs are steep so beware to anyone who tends to get up in the middle of the night! We had an awesome trip but not because of this house. I wouldn’t tell someone not to book, but if you’re a nurse during a pandemic like me, and you want to relax 100%, I say splurge for a newer place.

The house is lovely, in a quiet neighborhood within easy walking distance of the main street of Vineyard Haven. As mentioned in the listing, the stairs are very steep and shallow, so it's a bit of a challenge to go up and down, but this is common among Cape/Island houses. Somehow I missed the fact that there is no dishwasher (it probably says this in the listing) and learned that this is a feature that means a lot to me. As for the lack of a dryer, I found that hanging the laundry on the clothesline was surprisingly peaceful and meditative in that lovely backyard, but we were lucky to have dry weather on those days. I'm not sure what you'd do if it rained. With that said, we spent many happy hours playing games in the living room (there are a ton of them in the wooden chest), each kid had their own room, and there is a supremely comfortable leather chair in the living room, along with the sofas. The owner was extremely responsive and friendly, accommodating our need to plug in our electric car as well as a few kitchen requirements for our celiac child. And did I say croquet? Another way to enjoy that beautiful back yard!

Loved the location and the house. Only difficulty we had was with the very narrow driveway. Also the bathroom is on the main floor (not upstairs with the bedrooms). Overall, great trip!

This house was amazing for 4 people. The outdoor space is wonderful. Had coffee on the front porch every morning. The driveway is a little tight pulling in and out so be careful.

We had a great time staying at Brian’s home! The house is located near the ferry terminal in Vineyard Haven on a quiet side street. It’s an older home with some quirks, but overall is in good shape and well equipped with everything needed to be comfortable for a stay on the island with friends or a small family and a great value. We especially enjoyed the backyard deck for grilling and eating outside at night. Brian was a really great host - always responsive to the handful of inquiries we had and he provided us with some great tips. We’d definitely stay here again and would recommend to others!

Stayed here for a week with the family. Easy walk to downtown Vinyard Haven. Nice deck which was shady by dinner time. We set up some lawn games in the yard to use after getting back from the beach. The house fit all our needs and was comfortable for us. It’s an older home (1880’s) so the stairs are steep and the steps are small which could be an issue for folks who have trouble getting around but it wasn’t an issue for us. Brian the owner reached out to make sure everything was good and to let us know to contact him is we needed anything. All in all a nice place at decent price. Love the outdoor shower!

A cute and convenient cottage home in Vineyard Haven. Room for family on the inside, space to relax on the outside. It was a great base location to explore the island and have a quiet place to return to at the end of the day. Our family had a great time.

Stayed a week leading into Labor Day with our two children and was impressed by the well kept property, clean house with all the amenities (kitchenware, bedding, satellite TV), and easy walk to town (shops and supermarket) and the ferry. Outdoor shower was a big plus for myself and the kids! We used all three bedrooms upstairs when the in-law came for the long weekend! Back deck made for some great privacy while barbequing. This is was our third stay on the island (different rentals and locations) and am hoping to return to this rental given our experience.
