About this house rental
Located on four acres at the end of a private road and at the end of Dutch Neck peninsula, Thyme & Tide offers privacy and quiet without being remote. A deep-water dock and float provide water access for swimming, kayaking, or boating and the underwater light attracts fish and seals after dark. Seals, Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Cranes, Herons, and more are frequent visitors.
Summer 2024 UPDATE. We recently updated the upstairs living area, changing out some of the furniture and revising the layout. Take a look at the new pics to see what's changed. We also removed the TV from the upstairs (there's still one downstairs) and now only do streaming. Last thing is we now offer oysters fresh from the bay along with the lobsters.
Thyme & Tide is ideally suited for one or two couples or a small family with a King sized bed in the master, Queen in the ground floor Spa room, and two twins in the sleeping loft accessed by a ships ladder. This is a four season home with radiant heat on both floors and a Jotul gas fireplace in the second floor living room for added comfort. And on those few days in August when it gets really warm we've added a portable AC unit in the MBR, even though it only gets used 2-3 times a year.
The ground floor has 10' ceilings and cedar paneling complimenting the Douglas Fir Post and Beam frame. The 14'X36' family room runs the length of the house and has windows facing the water, seating area, and glass top dining table. The ground floor bedroom (aka the spa room) has a queen-sized bed and en-suite bath including a walk-in glass tile shower, cathedral ceiling, ceiling fan, screened in porch, and lots of windows. It even includes a wood fired sauna. See the photos for more details. There is also a bath with shower off the back entry hallway.
Upstairs are the living quarters with an open living/dining/kitchen area and 17' cathedral ceilings. The master bedroom and bath with shower are located at one end with the sleeping loft over. The bath has a Bosch washer and dryer in addition to the fully tiled oversized shower and large vanity. The upstairs also has a private (no ground access) wrap-around deck with a retractable sun awning on the east side to provide morning shade and 4 Adirondak chairs. The lower deck also has a few Adirondack chairs, a hanging swing, picnic table, and Weber gas grille.
The kitchen is well equipped with a Thermidor gas stove, under counter Sub-Zero refrigerators, Keurig/drip or K-cup combo coffee maker, microwave, and toaster oven. Fully stocked with linens, towels, silverware, dishes, glasses, PT, and utensils.
There is a TV downstairs in the family room with Apple TV and an Amazon Firestick. Internet and traditional landline phone also in service.
On the water we have a 60' pier with a 14'X24' float and a separate 8'X20' float for boat storage. We keep a pair of Adirondack chairs on the float for relaxing after a swim or just to sit and enjoy the views. We also keep a few camp chairs under the ramp in case more seating is needed. Lots of room for your kayak(s), paddle board, or small boat. There is a public boat ramp less than a mile away. The Solo stove firepit patio is located near the foot of the pier along the shoreline. Private with great views its a must for s'mores making.
Our location is less than 15 minutes from Rte 1, 25 minutes from Damariscotta, 35 minutes from Pemaquid Pt. and 35 minutes from Rockland. We are very centrally located on the MidCoast, virtually in the middle between Wiscasset and Camden.
Property Owners will be resident in the Main house during your stay, available to provide any help needed including ordering up lobsters and/or oysters if you want. We have the lobsters delivered directly to our float by local fishermen (unless Jim has been lucky with his five recreational traps and has some to spare).

We had extremely high expectations for our stay here and the week exceeded every expectation! Everything was absolutely wonderful! Jim and Susie are fantastic hosts. They gave great tips for local things to do and places to eat. The scenery was beautiful, including the herons, osprey and seals. Amazing!!!

This was the most amazing house that we’ve ever stayed in. It was so comfortable and homey with a picture perfect view. Great attention was paid to every detail. The hosts were truly wonderful and had so many perfect suggestions of where to eat and things to do. It’s a perfect place for natural beauty and relaxation and comfort. It has it all. We truly loved every minute here. Thank you again for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

This was one of the best properties we have stayed in. The property is very secluded but close to all of the places we wanted to explore. It is definitely for those who do not want to be in the heavy traffic areas. We were able to see seals, eagles and other wildlife without ever leaving. The owners live on the property next to the rental. They were super friendly and helpful with suggestions for our first trip to Maine. We will definitely be back. Thanks for sharing your property with us!

Jim and Susie’s property and communication could not have been better. The home had everything we needed and much more. The views are spectacular! The accommodations are warm and cozy. They provide so many extra touches that make you feel you are royalty. We decided to spend most of our time just relaxing rather than explore the area. We definitely plan to return next year! Thank you both for being such great hosts!

Absolutely loved our 4 night stay at Butter Point! Can't say enough about how welcoming and helpful Jim and Susie are. Once we completed our booking, Jim sent us wonderful tips and recommendations for the area. Greatly appreciated those detailed notes. The home is cozy with lovely views all around. We enjoyed fall but are certain all seasons are special.

One suggestion: a TV channel guide would be helpful. Thank you so much for providing this gorgeous home.

This is the only VRBO property that is actually way better than it appears in the photos. (and it looks great in the photos) It was a fantastic two weeks at Thyme and Tide. Jim and Susie are amazing property owners and went way above and beyond what would be expected. The house is meticulously clean and is stocked with everything we could possibly want or need on a vacation. The towels and sheets were high quality. There was plenty of cookware to prepare meals when we chose to. The fresh lobsters (yes, we had them 4 times) were delicious. Susie's blueberry delicacies truly hit the spot. The fire pit under the stars made for several wonderful evenings. Sitting on the dock to read in the sunshine and cool breeze was just what the doctor ordered. The house is located just about 30-40 minutes from golf, great restaurants, and sailing excursions in Damariscotta, Rockland and Camden. I could go on and on, but I'll run out of space. Thank you Jim and Susie for another great stay. I highly recommend your home to anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable stay.

If you are looking for peace and quiet with a view of the water, look no further! We were greeted by Jim and Susie upon our arrival, and Susie's fresh baked blueberry muffins were waiting for us in the kitchen. Our week here was incredible! We saw seals, eagles, and herons all within hours of arrival. We spent many hours on the float enjoying the scenery and fishing. The lobster was delicious! The house is stocked with everything you need. Jim and Susie's knowledge of the area and hospitality are top notch!

Before we even arrived at Thyme & Tide, the communication with owners Jim & Susie was outstanding. Jim provided me with a list of things to do, places to go, food options in the area, etc. Even though Jim & Susie weren't home at the time we arrived, check in instructions were spot on.
As soon as we entered the residence we knew we made the right choice, no doubt! It was obvious the pictures on line didn't do it justice. For those of you that put a heavy emphasis on cleanliness, you've found your place! If you like quiet relaxation, you're in for a treat. The water view from both upper and lower decks was fantastic, and if you want to get closer, just walk down to their dock.
There's plenty to see and do in the area, great micro-breweries, quaint villages to explore, places to eat on the water, think lobster.
Jim and Susie were the perfect hosts. Susie brought us fresh homemade scones, and Jim offered to cook our lobster for us one night, he even broke them down for us!
Magical! Just another way to describe our experience while staying at Thyme & Tide.

The house was very nice. Beautiful views from the inside and out on the decks. The owner was very accommodating and a great host. I hope to get back to Maine again and will definitely book here again. Thank you Jim and Suzie for making our stay perfect.

This is one of the few properties we have ever stayed in that the pictures just didn’t do it justice! What an amazing experience! Book this house immediately. Hosts were amazing. It is a bit off the “beaten path” as they say- so if that’s what you are looking for- look no further! I think this might be what Heaven is like. Everyone in my family loved it!

I don't know where to begin! We had an amazing time in Maine and staying at this location made it even better. It's hard to believe that Jim and Susie share this gem. It is absolutely beautiful. The home as well as the surrounding grounds are impeccably designed and manicured. Jim and Susie are the most gracious hosts. Thank you!

Stunning location, all the amenities, wonderful hosts, and peaceful spot. Words cannot accurately describe this special part of the Maine Seacoast. Close enough for visits to near by attractions, but solitude and beauty to just enjoy the property and kick back. Quiet location.

This is such a beautiful property with such lovely hosts. They provided everything we needed and more. We’ve stayed at many VRBOs over the years (and are also VRBO hosts) and this was our very favorite! Wonderfully appointed and comfortable. None of us wanted to leave!

We had a beautiful relaxing stay at Jim and Suzie's place. The house is well equipped, and so was the kitchen. The property is beautiful, located right on the water. The nights are spectacular for star gazing. Jim and Susie are gracious hosts. Susie welcomes you with her delicious blueberry muffins, Jim gave us suggestions of local places to visit which were spot on, and cooked the lobster for us. We found the house location perfect. Nestled in a quiet location, but not far from other areas we wanted to explore.
I highly recommend this place.

Jim and Susie provide a comfortable, clean and spacious cottage on the Muscongas Bay. Their dock is a comfortable distance from the cottage where one can enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing and swimming. At night, its an enjoyable place to have a campfire and eat s'mores while enjoying the incredible night sky. Plenty of games and puzzles to play on a rainy day. Jim and Susie are gracious hosts and stock the home with basic neccessities so we didn't have to worry about the details. Can't wait to come back! Thank you!!

Amazing location and hosts!
The property is beautiful! Lots of space for our family of six and the house was so clean and comfortable. We enjoyed morning coffee on the dock while we watched the harbor seals, birds and lobsterman. Short day trips to Boothbay, Rockland and Damariscotta were no more than 40 minutes away. We also enjoyed just pending time at the house; reading, playing games, fishing and roasting smores. Jim and Suzie were just lovely hosts and we all felt like instant friends. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We hope to come again some day!

Stay here!
The property is just beautiful! The house was comfortable and inviting—Susie left us homemade blueberry muffins and there were peonies on the dining room table. The bed was comfortable. Jim walked us through everything upon arrival and was helpful answering questions we asked about the area. We saw seals swimming in the water while sitting on the dock! We are already talking about returning for our next trip!

Maine Attraction
The owners, Jim and Susie, have built a wonderful guesthouse adjacent to their own lovely home. Our 4-day stay here was enjoyable. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. All amenities are provided ; and, with two levels, this location is good for two couples traveling together. We spent our time in the upstairs area where bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and outdoor deck are. Views are beautiful and we would've stayed longer, but our travels took our further east in Maine. Highly recommend!

If you like the water
This was the most amazing VRBO we have visited. From the foothills of the Pyrenees in Spain to Northampton, MA my wife and I have visited a few properties and without a doubt Jim and Suzie's is the best. We will go back whenever time allows. Thanks for the great visit. It is an amazing place.

Slice of heaven
Jim and Susie were outstanding hosts. Jim cooked us lobster soon after our arrival. Susie made us hot apple crisp. The guest house is superbly equipped with every comfort. The property has beautiful views and walking paths. We asked about using the fire pit and before we could even gather the camp chairs, Susie produced everything we needed for s’more making. Jim was a great resource for local sites to visit and favorite places to eat. We had planned to eat most meals out, but the kitchen was so wonderfully stocked that we cooked a few great meals on site. None of us were sad about a rainy morning because the house itself was so lovely that snuggling in with a book and an extra cup of coffee was a delight. With bedrooms on separate floors, each couple had some privacy, and great shared space for conversations. We 100% recommended this property for anyone traveling to Coastal Maine. A+

Beautiful Maine getaway!
This lovely bayside house is perfect for couples and/or families to enjoy the beauty of the Maine coast in a secluded yet accessible location. Spending the day leisurely savoring the scenery and appreciating the wonderful and well crafted house was relaxing and rejuvenating. Jim and Susie are excellent and attentive hosts who provided suggestions and recommendations regarding local places of interest and highlights. The house is close to several charming Maine towns as well as the cities of Portland and Camden. These can be easily explored. We recommend this gorgeous spot wholeheartedly and plan to return when we are in the area!

Idyllic Vacation
We were introduced to the guest house at Butter Point with scrumptious blueberry muffins and home made blueberry jam. We made arrangements with Jim to get lobsters delivered and then he actually taught us to cook them the first night. We loved the experience so much we ordered more the second night and were able to cook them ourselves! Jim was wonderful about helping us find places to go. The guest house is the most beautiful VRBO we have ever stayed in. The kitchen was well stocked and the beds and bedding were very comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the upstairs patio looking at the water and listening to the lobster boats and loons. We loved every minute of our mini vacation.

Peaceful guesthouse on the bay
Jim & Susie are wonderful hosts. They were beyond gracious and were very welcoming to a weary traveler. The guest house itself is very well done and is of high quality with plenty of amenities. The view of the bay is stunning, and Jim will even have some lobsters cooked up for you if you ask! I hope to be back soon.

Thyme and Tide was outstanding and was like having your own little world on the ocean. Photos do not do it justice! Beautiful Gardens were impeccably maintained and the house was immaculate and very well appointed with everything one would need. Set in a very quiet location, it is still accessible to many of the regions great places. The owners were great hosts and ready to provide privacy or answer any questions we had.

A Wonderful Vacation
Our stay at Butter Point was very enjoyable. Our hosts, Jim & Susie who live in an adjacent house, were always there for us but never intrusive. The accommodations were spacious, tasteful & had everything we could want, including a wood-fired sauna. Lobsters, fresh from the dock, Susie’s homemade blueberry jam & pie, helped make my birthday very memorable. We also enjoyed lounging & swimming from the dock. Our last night was topped with s’mores around a campfire. An excellent time!

Great Vacation Rental
My family & I had a great stay at Jim & Susie’s guest house. We have 2 kids who are 7 & 10. Where to start? Well first off Jim & Susie are very nice & they both are super helpful. Jim is a great resource for everything in the area. Susie’s blueberry muffins that were waiting for us were absolutely delish & my son who is peanut & tree nut allergic was able to have them which was even better. The property is immaculate and the craftsmanship of the guest house is very impressive. There was more than enough places to sleep for 4. The beds were very comfortable & I am very hard to please. I slept like a baby. The water pressure is strong. The kitchen has everything you need. The 2 fridges in the kitchen are back of bar sized but that worked for us & Jim has another regular size fridge in the garage if you need to put a few things in. The deck & the views are why you go. Sitting enjoying morning coffee & breakfast with the views of the water through the trees is so calming & relaxing. It’s a great place to read. There is also a screened in porch off the bedroom below if you want to be outside out of the direct sunlight. The garage for the unit is attached and is useful for loading things in and out…it’s also where the big tubes and big long noodles (2 of each) for the water were located. We didn’t use the Sauna but there is one. The guesthouse has 2 flat screen TVs that have direct tv satellite service. There is also a dedicated landline which came in handy for making any local calls as cell service is almost non existent. It comes & goes & had 1 bar at the most when I had service. The internet is provided by their cable provider & was fast enough for us on vacation. The fire pit is a Solo Stove & has stone seating area around it. We used it one night for s’mores. The dock is also nice and we had fun with the tubes and noodles. Jim was great and brought a life vest without being asked for our 10 year old to use while we were going in the first time. We had fun in the water. There is a lot of areas to explore on their lot. The surrounding area was great with lots to do. And there was great Lobstah all around to enjoy and Jim even has his own traps and can help if you want to cook them yourself. We hope we can go back and stay there again…actually we really didn’t want to leave but had to. 😂😂 It was a perfect vacation. If you stay at the guest house you definitely won’t be disappointed…just don’t book it for the week we want. 😂 Thank you Jim & Susie!

Amazing Property
If Thyme and Tide and/or Jim and Susie don't have what you're looking for, you don't need it! This home is absolutely gorgeous with comfy beds, great pillows, fully equipped kitchen, plenty of room to spread out and relax. And then....there are the views! Morning coffee or afternoon cocktails on the deck or the dock make for perfect beginnings and endings. Jim and Susie greeted us to show us around the house and welcomed us with fresh blueberry muffins. The quiet at night is something we could get used to. The starry skies viewed from the dock are spectacular. We had planned on eating out several times, but with fresh lobster from the bay and beautiful views from the house while dining convinced us to eat in! In addition to having a great vacation, we also feel as though we've made new friends in Jim and Susie (and the other family members we met along the way).

At the risk of turning hordes of vacationers onto this place, i must admit this is a 10 out of 10. Jim and Susie are ideal hosts to share the property with - warmly hospitable and helpful, but busy doing their own thing, giving guests plenty of space. Almost all of the outdoor space feels private, yet enjoys fabulous water and garden views. The living space is gorgeous from top to bottom, with wonderful lighting and high quality amenities. Expect to take a lot of photographs in and around the grounds of this idyllic property!

Tranquil Beauty
Our stay at Thyme & Tide was wonderful. Jim and Susie were kind, fun, and attentive. We stayed for a week (my husband and 2 young teens). The guest house was spacious and comfortable. I especially loved time on the deck and screened in porch. The house was well appointed and we had everything we could need. The dock access was quite special. We spent a lot of time on the dock relaxing, fishing and kayaking. We ate at some great restaurants and also enjoyed cooking. Thank you for sharing your home with us! Lynn & Family

Stellar place and hosts.
This property was gorgous. The water views are expansive and gardens/grass areas were plush. The accomodations were roomy and well-appointed. There was plenty of room for a family of five with two teenagers and an eight year old. The hosts were more than gracious and warm. This place is a gem and we would definitley go again.

Lovely location on muscongus Bay
Property pictures don’t do the house justice. it was really lovely and very well equipped. For our 2 separate group- 2 adults and family of 4, the separation of the spa bedroom from the rest of the house allowed for more privacy and quiet. The owners were very welcoming and we absolutely loved the lobster cooking demonstration by Jim. The dock is a great place to relax and read a book on those days one is not touring. The highlight was the owner recommendation to visit the Oceanic Botanical gardens in boothbay harbor. not to be missed.

Outstanding Experience
The house and property are immaculate. A perfect combination of isolation from the crowds with access to everything you would want for an authentic mid-coast Maine experience.
