Admire breathtaking views of Sawyer's Cove toward Blue Hill Bay from this stunningly situated home on the western shores of Mount Desert Island, where you'll have an expansive wrap-around deck right near the water. Built in 2004, this bayfront home is modern, spacious, comfortable, and tucked neatly into the island's mature woodlands. You and your family will be treated to two complete levels of living space, two full kitchens to make cooking with your loved ones a breeze, and wonderful access to Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, and the incredible landscapes of Acadia National Park. A community tennis court is perfect for outdoor recreation.

Beachcombers and kayakers will appreciate being able to walk just a few steps to the shores of idyllic Sawyer's Cove. Should you choose to leave the property (and you may not), the bustling villages of Southwest Harbor (seven miles) and Bar Harbor (14 miles) are only minutes away by car, and you'll find the Seal Cove portion of Acadia just down the road. When you're not strolling the Ocean Path or cycling on carriage roads in the park, you can enjoy the very quiet cove watching shorebirds and beautiful sunsets. Please respect the families in homes nearby, and remember that sound travels clearly over water.

When they say quiet side of island - they mean it! You will not be running to the store to get milk, it is a 20 min drive away. The place can certainly host a crowd of people. The view is very nice. It has a well stocked kitchen and the place was clean but... it is a mismatch of furniture (the couches upstairs could be cleaned), the four twin beds had mattresses that were so old (you could almost be sitting on the floor), there was only one ceiling fan in the living room and a portable fan in the master - it was so hot (some of the windows did not have screens), there was barely any gas in the canister for the BBQ (they said to call them to replace it but hard to do when you are in the middle of cooking dinner at 7 p.m.), also the yard was overgrown - no easy way to the cove except through weeds (which there are ticks!).

We really enjoyed staying at the Compass Rose. The house was lovely, the kitchen well stocked and the views of the water were gorgeous. We enjoyed being able to walk down to the small private beach to watch the sunset. We had a group of 7 ranging from 9-75 and everyone was very comfortable. As mentioned in the other reviews, the wifi is basically non-existent and the cell service very spotty. But we did not mind as we were enjoying the time being offline in Acadia. There is no AC but with Maine’s mild weather and the fans we were never uncomfortable. There are not curtains on every bedroom window so if you are sensitive to a bright room in the morning choose your room wisely. Overall, we would absolutely recommend and would stay there again!!! Such a peaceful and beautiful space!

The house location is in a quiet area on the west side of Mount Desert Island. It is about a 25-minute drive to Bar Harbor but some of the smaller towns like Tremont and Southwest Harbor are quite close. We liked the quiet and privacy. The kitchen was very well-stocked, which was much appreciated. We had a couple of significant issues: 1) When we arrived, the internet service was completely out. The property manager, Vacasa, made only a token attempt to fix it, which failed. There is almost no cell service in this area either. It was very difficult or impossible to look up places to visit, etc. To navigate with Google maps, we just had to get in the car and start driving and eventually it would pick up. We didn't expect to stream movies, we just needed to be able to do some travel research and we could not. Vacasa offered us a tiny refund for this inconvenience. 1a) When Vacasa came to try to fix this, they somehow changed our door code. We had to call them to get a new door code assigned. 2) While you probably can't expect air conditioning, you should be aware that the upper level of this house gets very hot during the day if it is hot outside. We did travel during an unusual heat wave. They provided a single box fan. The lower level did stay cool all the time. 3) As of our stay, there were no curtains in the master bedroom (the deck is right in front of this window) or in the ground floor bathrooms. This seems like an easy fix for privacy and to keep the sun out.

First and most importantly, we loved the house. It was clean, GORGEOUS view, no neighbors nearby, and is a literal stone's throw from the water. Can't recommend it enough. One issue: the wifi is nonexistent, which feels misleading considering the listing describes it as weak. We didn't get a signal all week. I'll reiterate that we had a blast this week and that none of the issues listed above would, in and of themselves, preclude us from coming back to this property. What WILL stop us from coming back is Vacasa. Vacasa manages vacation rental properties for those unaware, meaning the owner isn't involved and the communication goes through Vacasa instead. Normally this wouldn't be a huge issue, but on our second night we lost power, then the water shut off the following morning. Long story short, there were two numbers provided - one turned out to be a wrong number, the other was the Vacasa guest services line. I talked to two different people, one when we initially lost power and another the next morning. I was informed by morning person that the night person didn't log ANYTHING from the 30 minute call, and the morning person also told us that, after I requested a refund so we could take my child and aging parents elsewhere, there was nothing they could do regardless if the power came back on, because they don't offer refunds after the start of the trip. I'm out of characters, but I steadfastly refuse to stay at another Vacasa-managed property.

This home is spacious and beautiful. The setting is gorgeous and peaceful. It was a great place to relax with family and disconnect. It was an easy and pretty drive to Bar Harbor, Jordan Pond and Otter Cliff. The beds were comfy and we had everything we needed to prepare meals. The view from the porches is breathtaking. The only issue we had was the listing says WiFi is spotty but it was non existent. It was fine on the days we didn’t need to work but on work days we had to drive to Dunkin’ Donuts to work. Not the end of the world but if you’re planning on working from this location think again. Cell reception is spotty, calls drops and texts may or may not go through. You cannot use your phone as a hotspot because of the secluded location. Overall, we had a fantastic time and loved the home and property.
