This home was amazing! By far the best vrbo I’ve stayed in. The views are gorgeous!!
1.0 / 5.0
When they say quiet side of island - they mean it! You will not be running to the store to get milk, it is a 20 min drive away. The place can certainly host a crowd of people. The view is very nice. It has a well stocked kitchen and the place was clean but... it is a mismatch of furniture (the couches upstairs could be cleaned), the four twin beds had mattresses that were so old (you could almost be sitting on the floor), there was only one ceiling fan in the living room and a portable fan in the master - it was so hot (some of the windows did not have screens), there was barely any gas in the canister for the BBQ (they said to call them to replace it but hard to do when you are in the middle of cooking dinner at 7 p.m.), also the yard was overgrown - no easy way to the cove except through weeds (which there are ticks!).

We really enjoyed staying at the Compass Rose. The house was lovely, the kitchen well stocked and the views of the water were gorgeous. We enjoyed being able to walk down to the small private beach to watch the sunset. We had a group of 7 ranging from 9-75 and everyone was very comfortable. As mentioned in the other reviews, the wifi is basically non-existent and the cell service very spotty. But we did not mind as we were enjoying the time being offline in Acadia. There is no AC but with Maine’s mild weather and the fans we were never uncomfortable. There are not curtains on every bedroom window so if you are sensitive to a bright room in the morning choose your room wisely. Overall, we would absolutely recommend and would stay there again!!! Such a peaceful and beautiful space!

The house location is in a quiet area on the west side of Mount Desert Island. It is about a 25-minute drive to Bar Harbor but some of the smaller towns like Tremont and Southwest Harbor are quite close. We liked the quiet and privacy.
The kitchen was very well-stocked, which was much appreciated.
We had a couple of significant issues:
1) When we arrived, the internet service was completely out. The property manager, Vacasa, made only a token attempt to fix it, which failed. There is almost no cell service in this area either. It was very difficult or impossible to look up places to visit, etc. To navigate with Google maps, we just had to get in the car and start driving and eventually it would pick up. We didn't expect to stream movies, we just needed to be able to do some travel research and we could not. Vacasa offered us a tiny refund for this inconvenience.
1a) When Vacasa came to try to fix this, they somehow changed our door code. We had to call them to get a new door code assigned.
2) While you probably can't expect air conditioning, you should be aware that the upper level of this house gets very hot during the day if it is hot outside. We did travel during an unusual heat wave. They provided a single box fan. The lower level did stay cool all the time.
3) As of our stay, there were no curtains in the master bedroom (the deck is right in front of this window) or in the ground floor bathrooms. This seems like an easy fix for privacy and to keep the sun out.

First and most importantly, we loved the house. It was clean, GORGEOUS view, no neighbors nearby, and is a literal stone's throw from the water. Can't recommend it enough.
One issue: the wifi is nonexistent, which feels misleading considering the listing describes it as weak. We didn't get a signal all week.
I'll reiterate that we had a blast this week and that none of the issues listed above would, in and of themselves, preclude us from coming back to this property. What WILL stop us from coming back is Vacasa.
Vacasa manages vacation rental properties for those unaware, meaning the owner isn't involved and the communication goes through Vacasa instead. Normally this wouldn't be a huge issue, but on our second night we lost power, then the water shut off the following morning.
Long story short, there were two numbers provided - one turned out to be a wrong number, the other was the Vacasa guest services line. I talked to two different people, one when we initially lost power and another the next morning. I was informed by morning person that the night person didn't log ANYTHING from the 30 minute call, and the morning person also told us that, after I requested a refund so we could take my child and aging parents elsewhere, there was nothing they could do regardless if the power came back on, because they don't offer refunds after the start of the trip. I'm out of characters, but I steadfastly refuse to stay at another Vacasa-managed property.

This home is spacious and beautiful. The setting is gorgeous and peaceful. It was a great place to relax with family and disconnect. It was an easy and pretty drive to Bar Harbor, Jordan Pond and Otter Cliff. The beds were comfy and we had everything we needed to prepare meals. The view from the porches is breathtaking. The only issue we had was the listing says WiFi is spotty but it was non existent. It was fine on the days we didn’t need to work but on work days we had to drive to Dunkin’ Donuts to work. Not the end of the world but if you’re planning on working from this location think again. Cell reception is spotty, calls drops and texts may or may not go through. You cannot use your phone as a hotspot because of the secluded location. Overall, we had a fantastic time and loved the home and property.

Lovely if you want quiet surroundings and a beautiful view. Groceries and activities are far. Would have been a real plus if the house had a kayak or paddle board.

Everything in the house was just as described. The location is wonderful. Beautiful views of the ocean and islands from the deck. The house is on the less busy side of Mount Desert, and it’s very quiet and peaceful, while still being very close to all the Acadia attractions, restaurants and grocery stores. We had a great week with lots of hiking, seafood, and beautiful scenery. The one thing that could have made the stay better would be blinds or shades in some of the bedrooms. The master in particular had no shades on the windows or sliding door. This created privacy issues, and was unpleasant when the sun is rising just after 5 am. Other than that, the house is wonderful.

Our family of 8 ranging in age from 70 to 7 all very much enjoyed our stay. The house was meticulously clean. All paper products and toiletries were supplied. We appreciated that there was no automobile noise and very limited boat noise. The sunsets, seen through the trees were gorgeous.
We spent a lot of time on the lovely deck. An A+ vacation for everyone.

This lovely home made us feel welcome from the moment we first walked through the front door. The view was amazing. The views were breathtaking and the two porches with the gentle breezes made watching the sunset a nightly event. The home was very comfortable and well equipped for all. I can’t imagine a better location to spend a few days exploring nature, food, and quaint shops. Definitely a wonderful stay for everyone.

Quiet & beautiful!
The house was immaculate, comfortable and spacious. We loved how quiet it was on this part of the island, and the harbor was absolutely gorgeous. Loved sitting on the deck!

Comfortable stay with dramatic views
A very nice home in a magnificent location. the home was well laid out and kitchen was well stocked. Master bedroom was very comfortable with plenty of towels and bedding throughout. That said, furniture was a bit tired and downstairs beds "well used". The downstairs oven went into a fault code resulting in a beeping warning when we tried to use it and when we consulted the manual, the same code had been circled by someone, indicating that this had been a recurring issue. Otherwise, our group had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Great place to stay
The house was large enough for eight adults to spread out and was furnished nicely. Watching sunsets from the back deck was amazing. Whoever uses the master bedroom should be aware that there are NO curtains or blinds on the double glass doors leading to the large back deck, hence no privacy from anyone on that side of the deck. We asked our companions to please not go to that area. We all had a great stay here and would rent again.

The best view!
Spacious home with wonderful views from ever room. The house was excellently stocked and very comfortable. Met every need. Loved the private location and little “beach” at the end of the path.

We had a great week at Compass Rose. The view from the deck of the cove is one of the most peaceful views I have ever had- great way to enjoy a morning coffee or a beautiful sunset.
My wife likes to cook and found the kitchen well stocked. We had breakfast there every day and some dinners. The master bedroom is very spacious with his and hers bathrooms plus rooms downstairs for the kids to have their own space. We had to call the local Vacasa contact with a couple questions and he was also helpful.
It is on the quiet side of the island so is a drive to Bar Harbor and restaurants/groceries but close to the less hectic nice Southwest Harbor and Echo Lake Beach and Long Pond for swimming.

Great location, big house, terrible internet
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the house. We had a large family there and found there to be plenty of spaces to spend time as a big group and for individuals to get away if they needed. The upstairs kitchen was big enough to accommodate several people cooking at once and the couches in the upstairs living room also fit all of us. The view was incredible and it was fairly easy to walk down an overgrown trail to get to the water. We really enjoyed being away from the crowds. The house was also bright and the deck was great and we all enjoyed spending time out there. The bedrooms were mostly as described, although one of the bedrooms listed as a queen bed was a full. The kitchen table also didn't really fit all 8 of us. Another small complaint was that there weren't really any extra towels, soaps, or shampoos to be found. Our only significant issue was the internet. The cell phone service was bad for all of us (we used several different carriers in the group) and thus had to rely on the wi-fi. The signal was okay at best even sitting next to the router and non-existent in several areas of the house. It also went out for hours at a time on several occasions. As a group, we felt that the spotty internet should have been made clear in the listing.

Perfect location
We had a wonderful stay at compass rose. The large deck overlooking the water and secluded, peaceful location were the best parts. We spent the days exploring Acadia national park and looked to returning in the evening to relax on the deck.

Acadia nature
Lovely home, very spacious with beautiful views. Centrally located and easy drive to Acadia National Park, scenic areas and nice restaurants.
The balcony is lovely but the dock is not accessible and there’s not an easy or cleared path down to the water. Would have been nice to be able to go down and sit by the beach.
Overall, a very comfortable, clean and well-stocked home. We enjoyed our stay.

We had an amazing time staying at the house (6 people + dog) - the house was clean, and had all the essential stuffs (soap, shampoo, towels etc) ; amazing view and only 30 mins from Acadia National Park - would totally come back again!!
The only reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 was because of the dishwasher was leaking water

Lovely Home!
Lovely experience in this home with water views and water access. There are two full kitchens (one on each floor) with a large Master bedroom and bath on the upper level. The balcony is pleasant for sitting outdoors and relaxing while taking in beautiful views of Sawyer Cove.
Be aware that mobile phone signal is spotty and you are unlikely to have access to cellular data; however, internet in the home is adequate. The television is hidden on the upper level but, honestly, you won't want to watch it with so many other activities to occupy you outdoors! And there is a substantial selection of puzzles for rainy days.
My mother-in-law grumbled about a lack of air conditioner but she was the only person who seemed uncomfortable. If you are nervous about being too hot in a home without aircon, consider bringing an extra fan (there are two portable fans in the house already).
Overall, an excellent location for a summer getaway with family or friends. Would happily return next year!

Beautiful House at a Beautiful Location
We had an awesome stay at this beautiful home on Seal Cove. While the pictures looked great when we booked the house, we were incredibly pleased to find the actual home and location were so much better in person! If you're looking for a clean, modern, spacious home at a location with breathtaking views, then this listing completely fits those requirements. We highly enjoyed our stay.

Epic September
The location is remote which is exactly what my group was looking for. The view is also pure Maine which is what my heart craves. The two floors full of space allowed folks to escape if they wanted some downtime.
The only negative was the fridge on the lower level didn't work but with seven of us we were all able to make the upstairs unit handle everything.
