This was my seventh stay at John Joe's Cottage in as many years. It's a real home from home, amidst a working family farm, and the Moffitts could not be more delightful or helpful hosts. The house is in a serene and beautiful spot, amidst venerable trees and with an impressive variety of birds. Thornhill is an ancient and charming hamlet, quietly off the main N15 drag, with an evocative Protestant cemetery and the remains of an 18th-century church and, indeed, of an old inn. It is a splendid touring base within pleasant reach of Belleek, Enniskillen, Ballinamore, Carrick-on-Shannon, Boyle and Sligo and Manorhamilton. Locally, it looks very much to Blacklion/Belcoo, within an hour's walk and scarce five minutes by car, with pubs, cafes and restaurants - and do check out The Market House, as well as such attractions as the Shannon Pot, the Cavan Burren, St Patrick's Holy Well and the Marble Arch Caves.

We loved the peace and quiet nice walks for our little dog no fireworks only quiet
I loved everything about our stay there was nothing I didn't like

We have stayed here three times now… location is good for us to visit family, rural country which we like.
Property just needs a little TLC now as it’s tired looking, particularly the downstairs bathroom, shower door not on runners properly, toilet seat needs replaced and fittings in bathroom need renewed as it just looks shabby… floors were not clean and sheet on sofa bed needed washed before use.. not the usual standard we have had before.

Hosts were lovely and very obliging. Great with communication. House was clean and comfortable for 3 people and had everything you would normally need for a night away. Short drive to blacklion or enniskillen further out. The fire was a lovely element to have and the hosts even had some fuel left out
Beds were hard for me .. but that's a personal opinion.. others were fine with them.

This was my seventh visit to Ireland and my sixth stay at John Joe's. It is a delightful, immaculately kept cottage in a lovely rural locale and ideal for leisurely exploration of north-west Ireland. Sligo, Enniskillen, Boyle and Carrick-on-Shannon are all within convenient reach.

Quaint stone cottage on a peaceful back lane with lovely views. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. The only things I brought were, washing power, spare towels and my rechargeable Hoover. The towels and Hoover were mostly for my dog who loves the water and mud !! . Downstairs a little dark like most stone cottages with small Windows but upstairs plenty of natural light and lovely views to wake up to and bed very comfortable. Had my morning coffee in one of The armchairs in the bedrooms just watching the views and the farmers moving the cattle. Some might say the furniture a bit dated but I though it was comfortable and perfect for a relaxing country holiday . No WiFi but easy to hotspot from the phone and Saorview tv. Location is brilliant, lakes and mountain trails off every road and the views are stunning. Cavan burren park, marble arch caves and boardwalk, and numerous trails around the lakes all within 5 to 15k. Bundoran less than an an hour's drive and the views on the way fab. Enniskillen town about 20k, new petrol station in Blacklion village with large shop and restaurant only few minutes drive. Blacklion village itself has a great take away and the famous cookery school and restaurant. Becoo town about 1/2 km further and in Fermanagh in northern Ireland has more bars, restaurants and local shops. Another bar, restaurant, small shop and post office about half hour walk or a few minutes drive in the opposite direction and in Leitrim. The owners live next door and although i did not see them much, Joan or her husband responded immediately to any queries on the message site or by text and that was all I needed. Would defiantly visit again, loved everything about this cottage and it's great location.
No Hoover which I knew from the previous reviews but even a better sweeping brush would be great otherwise very well fitted out with everything . If i had been staying longer a bench or some seats in the garden would be great. Lovely views and it would be a nice place to enjoy a summer breakfast or dinner. I visited at the end of summer so they may be available earlier in the summer.

The garden was massive (with swings & slide) for the dog & kids to play in.
The facilities inside the cottage were excellent - 2 shower rooms/toilets & basins in every bedroom.
The cottage was in the middle of the quiet countryside with cows walking passed the front door everyday!!
Excellent value for money.
Perfect location for visiting Donegal & Enniskillen areas.
Only one shower worked & the flow was very weak.
There was a slight musty smell & the floors weren't very clean - we found a chocolate muffin & sweets under the sofa, from previous tenants.
The sofa & chairs in the lounge weren't very comfortable.

Cute wee place. Lovely comfortable beds.
We didn't meet anyone. The garden that was advertised was locked up about 2 hours after we arrived and the gate was kept locked. No tea towel to dry dishes and the sitting room area was very uncomfortable. It was fine for 2 nights but not anymore. Nowhere to dry clothes, no back door. No wifi is great so brought DVDs but seriously VCR

Lovely warm cottage in Co. Cavan, perfect for exploring Fermanagh, Sligo and Donegal. Only 15 min to Cuilcagh Mountain boardwark and a bit further to Eniskillen. Will definately stay there again!
