As we drove towards the house we could sense this was going to be a special and relaxing few days Peter and Jen welcomed us into their family home the views were stunning and we found Peter’s knowledge, the restoration and history of the home very interesting. Breakfast was something special in its self, the setting was so relaxing over looking the beautiful gardens. A unique place to stay would like to keep it a secret but happy to share our experience of a perfect stay In beautiful surroundings. Will definitely return.

We wanted somewhere special and we certainly found it. Peter and Jen were attentive and generous hosts. They made our stay memorable for all the right reasons.

Peter our host provided us with an exceptionally interesting introduction to the house an, d its former resident Florence Nightingale, as well as details of local places to eat which was invaluable in the current Covid climate where so many places are unable to open. Our room was unbelievably comfortable with distant views of the countryside and breakfast has to be experienced to understand just how good it was! We were both really sad to leave but we had a hotel in Yorkshire booked otherwise we would have prevailed on the hosts to stay longer. We'll be back when time and vacancies permit.
Absolutely nothing could be improved.

Everything. Peter and Jen were exceptional hosts ensuring that our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The renovation and preservation of the property is remarkable - a labour of love to retain the memory of a British heroine.
Staying in the home of Florence Nightingale was truly an enriching experience and one we won’t forget. Many thanks again.

This is a delightful place to stay and feels like you are staying with friends. Peter and Jen make you feel very welcome and their passion for their home and it’s history is fully demonstrated. Breakfast is tailored to you as an individual, rather than buffet style that many places now seem to deliver. The local walks are excellent and would certainly stay again at this property, the best recommendation I can give.
Nothing, but could add to luxury feel by additional items in rooms e.g. flowers, fruit, treats and quality products in bathrooms.

The house was the childhood home of Florence Nightingale and has been sensitively restored to reflect and respect her legacy. It is also a lovely family home. The views from the house are stunning. There is a large and beautiful garden and it is almost surrounded by parkland. There is walking from the door and many places to just relax. Peter and Jen are so welcoming and made us feel at home; interesting and charming people. It is a unique place to stay.

The host and the place was truly amazing and the hosts were amazing from the get go. Always going above what was expected.
It’s like staying in a real life museum and Peter has vast knowledge on the history of the place.
Can’t fault at all on the stay.
Would have like to be close to a pub, but the cheeky beer or two provided was enough to quench the thirst.

My family and I had a fabulous 48 hour stay with Peter and his lovely wife Jen. The building is steeped in history with many artifacts on display as well as interesting references to Florence Nightingale. Lea Hurst is stunning throughout and could easily be considered a living museum.
The rooms were spacious, clean with plenty of storage space and the beds were way too comfortable and a real challenge getting the kids(and wife) out of in the mornings.
Breakfast was served at our convenience and although a set menu I got the impression that we could more or less ask for as much or as little as we wanted and it would not have been a problem. It was all part of the service and the daily rate. We also watched the England Vs Denmark Euro 2020 semi-final in the shared living room on a large flat screen TV drinking complimentary beers served by Peter. I look forward to telling friends in the future conversations down the pub that we watched this match in Florence Nightingales 'gaf' - surreal!
The gardens were also stunning with lots of ornaments, flower beds and plenty of seating areas scattered throughout where you can sit and relax and enjoy the stunning views that seem to go on for miles. The immediately adjacent field was populated with sheep and deer and the kids enjoyed seeing the animals up close in a natural and comfortable habitat.
As an amateur photographer, I was very much in my element and snapped almost everything that took my eye and couldn't wait to get home to view the images. I've uploaded 10 of my favourites.
Despite all of the things that I've mentioned above, the most important thing for me when staying away from home is to feel welcome as that very much underpins everything else. I can honestly say that my wife, children and I felt entirely welcomed and very comfortable in Pete and Jen's family home and I suspect that we will be visiting them again some time in the not too distant future.
Thank for a great stay guys!!
The wall on the balcony is a little low and I suspect that there are planning restrictions that would prevent a safety barrier being installed. It wasn't a problem for us as our kids are in their teens but it might be an area of concern for younger children.

We were greeted by Peter who warmly welcomed us, and gave a tour of the downstairs and some history of the house and the Nightingale family shortly after our arrival. This really is an exceptional B&B. Peter and Jen are so friendly and knowledgeable, and gave the personal touch and were so helpful and accommodating without at all being intrusive. The house itself is beautifully presented, kept immaculate and is steeped in interesting history.
We booked the suite and had access to the balcony, which had its own very effective patio heater - handy in October! The view over the hills is beautiful. We saw many deer from our window, and there are also sheep in the next field. The house is down a long drive from the main road so we really were away from everything, and just had peace and quiet. In the suite, we had full use of the study which had so many books, old maps and lots to keep our minds occupied. The gardens are absolutely immaculate, with plenty of seating, even a garden bench swing, and we loved their tame pet peacock, which made no noise.
We had breakfast at the time that suited us best after our holiday lie-in, rather than having a strict cut-off time and wow - was it delicious! Everything was perfect from the choice of granola, fresh fruit and yogurt, to the full English. As a B&B, they don't provide evening meals but gave some great recommendations for nearby restaurants. Wine is available and the wine we ordered was very high quality, yet not expensive.
Masks and hand sanitiser were provided at the front door and we both felt very covid-safe during our stay.
Thank you so much Peter and Jen. You have both thought of everything! We will be returning!
There is nothing not to like about this stunning place. Maybe the fact that we don't actually live there permanently! :)
