Really beautiful lounge, the pictures don't do it justice. The staff were lovely and attentive. The location is perfect for an early morning walk to the nearby river which is breathtaking during the sunrise.
I stayed in the dormitory. Wasn't private at all. Bathroom was fine but a bit cramped.

Overall acceptable
Although the 2 Hosts seem to be kind to us, keep calling us to rush us to check in. First call was acceptable as we also relief that our roooms were confirmed & secured. But more than 1 call start to irritate us, even we know we are a group of 11pax, making them insecure of our group size in case we didnt turn up.
Cleaning services were carried out before we check out, even we were still ahead of check out time. This rushing attitude is making us uncomfortable. And finally we were asked to leave the premises as we have passed the check out time , even it was raining heavily outside & the bus was still 20min ahead of arrival time.

24-hour common area is the best place for me to chase project deadline(Well, may not be applicable to most of the travellers XD)
The staff help me a lot to find the kimono rental shops, along with train details, as I am not familiar with Japanese speaking. They are very kind and helpful.
Good hygiene and nice location with only 3 minutes walk to Togetsu-kyo bridge. Nice place if you would like to stay away to the crowd in Kyoto.
Pillows is a bit thin, also the sound isolation is not that good in the corridors. It is quite creepy for the sound made when I stepped on the bunk bed ladder.
Not much restaurants around opened at night, need a better planning for dinner if you stay here.

The family own hostel was simply amazing, clean, and safe. Wong and her husband were always happy to help and were very friendly.
Mulan was my highlight during my trip to Japan, and I'll definitely recommend, to anyone to check out this little paradise close to everything interesting to visit. (Bamboo forest, monkey forest, Kimono Forrest... and so much more.

Very clean, polite staff, clear rules and policies. Four minutes from the metro and bus stations, and close to most of the attractions in the NorthWest area of Kyoto.
The mattress is not really a mattress but two thin layers of what people usually put on top of a mattress for protection. Very uncomfortable! Also, your guests might benefit from defining the “sleep/quiet” hours, instead of “at night”. This might mean different things to different people.

Right by Arashiyama local station and 20 minutes from JR Arashiyama station. 20 minute walk to the bamboo forest and so convenient. Also lovely staff and value for money. It’s quiet at night so ideal for those who want a good night’s sleep.

Comfortable atmosphere, like a house. We took the 3p tatami room as 2p, and the room was very spacious and clean. Location was very good for us, not too central but still easily accessible. Bicycle rental available which we used extensively.
Because there's also a dormitory on the floor, it was a bit noisy in the morning. Breakfast was in a nearby Cafe, which we didn't mind, but the food was not so nice. Continental and not enough.
