Beautiful chateau
The owners tried to charge us almost 40 EUR for the breakfast we didn't have even though we never specifically requested it nor we were told that we must reserve it. The owners said that they prepared us breakfast and it is our fault that we didn't come, they still have to charge us. Travelers must be careful with this.

Superb room, super comfy. Simple but delicious breakfast and lovely 4 course dinner. Private garden with room.
Silly rules. €10 corkage to open a bottle of my own wine. Lots of grumpy messages about fines for putting smelly food in fridge. This is a high quality hotel not a roadside motel.

Excellent breakfast, evening meal was fantastic, fixed menu but excellent!! staff very helpful always smiling, nothing too much of a problem, great value for money
would like to have stayed in main chateau, thought I had booked that but where we were was lovely

Bedroom was clean and bed comfy (although decor was dated and very busy). Lovely peaceful rooms and was able to sleep well. Toiletries replenished and cleaned daily.
A basket of breads, yoghurt and cheese was lovely for one day but became uninteresting afterwards. Fresh strawberries or berries or boiled eggs (instead of the big basket of breads) would be more enjoyable.

Great dining room atmosphere. Table nicely set. Fresh assortment of bread. Offered eggs, cheese and meats. Willing to please. No background music.
It was just right.

A beautiful, family-run hotel. Every effort is gone to to provide a comfortable stay with good food and lovely surroundings. Great room, very comfortable with lots of space. Nice pool. The family who ran the hotel were very obliging.
A little isolated.

We booked at very short notice and were actually looking for a budget location. This came up and was very far from a low budget, but we went for it anyway - as a treat. Not quite what we expected really, but in fact we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend it. We were in one of the rooms/suites in a converted stable block. It turned out there are also rooms in the house which we might have chosen instead if we had known - they were a lot more reasonably priced.
Our room had a beautiful, huge bed, a lovely bathroom with spa-bath (though I think this was not fully functional). Everything was immaculate and of a high quality. We also had a separate room with armchairs and small table. Outside we had our own private garden with reclining chairs.
The breakfast was excellent - lots of very fresh breads of various types, and if you wanted it fresh meat, cheeses and eggs - plus fresh fruit. In all honesty I was not hungry again until late afternoon.
It is family run and Mr and Mrs Renard are excellent and attentive hosts - nothing is too much trouble. Our language skills are not great - but they spoke excellent English. We met their very well-behaved children in the pool too.
We met a lovely Belgian couple at breakfast and they were staying in one of the rooms within the main building which they said was also beautiful. We would definitely recommend others to stay here - perhaps a short break for three nights as we did. Perfect for a romantic stay/honeymoon destination!
Incidentally we had fun watching the Long-Eared owls flying in the evening.
I cannot complain about the high price because it was our choice, and everything was excellent. It did seem that the spa-bath in our room was not fully functional which was a shame. Also the two armchairs that looked beautiful, in fact need repairing as the seat bases have sagged making them quite uncomfortable to actually sit in. These two items need to be attended to. But very minor niggles really.

It was farther to La Rochelle than I had anticipated. There was not much nearby to see, and I was eager to tour the environment as a visitor from the US>

The proprietors, the decor, the food.
Evening meal was excellent on all 3 nights but would have preferred it if it had been served hotter, particularly the soup.
It was a little cold in the building - corridors and dining room. Bedroom was OK, heatwise.

This is one of those rare gems you find every now and then. A fantastic place where the building, the room and restaurant where what we would like for other places to match.
Unfortunately it is in a location where we will not be in the near future, if ever again.

Friendly staff, the ambiance. The level of comfort and room facilties and great food!
Wine and drinks too expensive.
3.5 / 5.0
the location
The noise in the room (something like a drop falling all night long)
Too many rules, time for dinner and breakfast are too strict
