The location was perfect, convenient and the host was welcoming and friendly. Room was clean, tidy and the bed was really comfortable aling with the pillows!
The room was freezing, even with the portable heaters on. Luckily, we discovered electric blankets on the bed, so we had to get undercover to stay warm in the room. We were reluctant to use the spa that we had looked forward to as it was so freezing in the bathroom. A little noisy as we were at the bpttom of the stairs and right next door to reception, so we were woken up early.

Location, rooms are lovely and well supplied
Pillows weren't overly great, and the bathroom smelt damp but everything else made up for that.

Handily situated in the main street of Penguin meant it was a good location to go exploring from. The room was great, and the electric blanket was a good thing as it was fairly cold the night we stayed. We went to the pub for dinner, and in the morning there were couple of cafes open for breakfast.

I love the little town of Penguin at this is right in the heart of it. So much so that I proposed to my fiancé here

The lovely room, the comfy bed, the furnishings and location. And we woke up a beautiful sunrise over the bay.
The steep stairs! Blinds were decorative only.

Our rooms were magnificent with ocean views. We highly recommend the Madsen. Centrally located- easy walk to shops and restaurants.

The location was great and being across the road from the beach was lovely. The manager/owner was understanding and refunded me my nights stay. I was exhausted and didn’t not get much rest.
The room needs a update and the interior is back in the 80’s. Not ideal when it’s meant to be a luxury accommodation. The bed was terrible and sinking in the mattress. The electrical point was coming off the wall making it very dangerous and a fire hazard. I couldn’t use the heating appliance because of this. My room was at the bottom of the stairs and could hear everyone passing up and down along with upstairs. To get into the room the door opened outwards which was a pain in the arse with the stairs. I had workmen outside my window early and didn’t realise as I was showering. The manager gave me a refund and apologised. I appreciated this and thank you. I can see there are good intentions but it really needs a bit of love and refresh (the room interior/bed and bedding). Ohhh I was expecting a breakfast as that was advertised. They don’t offer it anymore.

It’s a lovely little hotel in a fab location in a lovely town
The description on Booking.com of a “sea view” was a bit of a stretch - if you really squinted out of the windows there was a tiny bit of water but mostly it was wall.

Location was great! Close to cafes, bakery, newsagent, opposite beach and walkway!
Everything - room was not as depicted in information and photos - mould in shower, unfinished around vanity, dirty scatter cushions, non existence hanging space in tiny cupboard, extra pillows were tatty with no pillow slips on them, doona cover is old fashioned and uncomfortable lounge suite, missing light globe in ceiling pendant. Smoke detector outside our room in hallway looks like it no longer works. Bowl of fruit in reception, well everything except the bananas was old and withered, looked like it had been there for weeks. Asked man in reception where we could get breakfast on Sunday morning and was told bakery does a cooked breakfast - well they do, just not Saturday or Sunday!

The room was nice enough, plenty in the minibar and the option of a complimentary port or sherry great touch
The floor in the bath room very slippery and could have used some updates

Complimentary port was available and the fruit bowl selection was lovely too

Location close to the sea and gorgeous comforting funiture.
The spa was not able to be operated after 10pm. Incase people had to go to work. Fair!
However there was guest above my room swearing repeatedly at 12-1am in the morning when I required sleep and recovery from my pet passing away.
On top of this the toaster was not working for breakfast. The lamp on the writing/ reading desk wouldn't work either

loved the atmosphere, the simplicity of checking in and the location was perfect.
The guest who stayed in room 2 were extremely loud until 2am (arguing) and the smoke scent from their ensuite travelled into our ensuite. Not an issue with the owner at all, just some very inconsiderate guests.
