Alambique,

The hotel and amenities themselves were very good and what I would expect from a 5 star resort
The staff and our experience were on the whole extremely underwhelming. My partner has allergies and every time we explained or asked for something, on the main they were very dismissive and every little thing felt like such a hassle. The man on reception was extremely unhelpful and passed us to guest relations on the second day. We thought this would help but were met with the same disdain by bar/restaurant staff - so much so we felt we couldn’t eat at the hotel any more. We explained again to guest relations on the third day, where we had to give our room number. Again, I don’t think you should have to go over and beyond to meet dietary requirements which we have found much much easier most other places we’ve stayed. My partner did get gluten free pancakes on that morning which gave her vomiting and diarrhoea which pretty much sums up the experience. Extremely disappointing given its a 5 star resort and in my opinion it’s the service you pay for!

Great location, very helpful and friendly staff, good food, rooms overlooking the sea was beautiful... wouldn't have liked to have an inward facing room.
Nothing that we experienced however, we did hear that small extras/additionals would have been chargeable which would have been annoying.

Beautiful place to stay from the higher quality service to comfortable and very high standards room well equipped !
Infinity pool was closed due to some repairs or damages, The spa access should have been free and shouldn’t be a paid service. Specially after upgrading the room. Doesn’t justify why you book a room and can’t access their basic facilities, the indoor swimming pool don’t have hot water. Water is cold therefor not suitable for use even if is free to use.

Great hotel! Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was quite comfortable with possibly the best bed we slept on during our month long trip. Bathroom was clean, and the balcony was a nice addition. Great AC. Parking was easy and close. This hotel has the best, most elaborate breakfast I’ve ever experienced. It was delicious and filling and varied. We loved the beach club area, though would recommend water shoes as the beach is quite rocky. Would gladly stay here again.

Great daily complimentary breakfast buffet open until 10:30am
Great cocktails (although not very strong)
Excellent pools (indoor and outdoor)
Excellent spa facilities and good value for services and spa access
Incredible view from oceanfront room and throughout public spaces on the property
Room service menu is very lackluster. It would be great if food and beverages from the different onsite restaurants were made available on the menu. It would have been nice to enjoy a private meal from the room balcony.
Isolated location and far from other popular areas on the island (such as the capital Funchal and Porto Moniz on the north side of the island)
Not enough complimentary shuttles running to Funchal (or across the island), only one in the morning (9am) that departs Funchal before 6pm.

Super big choice for breakfast, lovely roof pool with sea view, staff very friendly.
The best food was at the beach club of the hotel where you can stay on sun beds by the sea with amazing service
On level 8 by the pool Drinks in Plastic glass - I really don’t like that

The view was 😍 and it’s nice for a relaxing vacation
You need to pay extra money for the sun beds that is next to the infinity pool, and everything was like help yourself

Views from the sea side room were stunning. Staff was very helpful and friendly, rooms were very clean and comfortable. Lots of restaurants and bars with super friendly staff

The situation, the view from the swimming pool on the 8th floor, the bar at Calhau Beach
The staff (unfriendly, unhelpful and not professional except for the Guest Relations manager) and the service in general that didnt match with a so-called 5 stars hotel

We visited the hotel on the day we got engaged and therefore had higher expectations than usual. The room itself was outstanding, really luxurious, stylish and spacious. The bed was really comfortable and air conditioning was priorly set to reasonable temperature. There was also a balcony with an ocean view, however ocean being a bit further away. There was an infinity pool and also an indoor pool, which were both nice. Also the restaurant had the possibility to sit outside and enjoy the sunset. And the breakfast had a vast variety of dishes and fruits to choose from. Overall, a really nice place to stay!
We had a dinner in the hotel restaurant as a buffet, which had a huge variety of choice, however nothing remarkable. Were expecting to have a bit more memorable experience from there. After hiking a long day, the welcoming staff was supporting us with check-in, however noticed questionable looks due to our worn appearance (in the check-in) after spending the day under the blazing sun hiking in the mountains.

Spacious room with comfy bed. Lots of space around the swimming pool, even at peak season. Good quality of food and drinks. Good location to explore the island. Clean all around.
Nice breakfast buffet, yet overcrowded around 9h and lots of food being gone already; not replenished (although buffet runs until 10h30). Only 2 coffee machines available and only partially working, leading to big queues. Staff friendliness and helpfulness has been better at other places.

Breakfast buffet was amazing, the infinity pool has a beyond beautiful view! The room was nice, the design was very inspiring. The staff have beyond exceptional customer service. The private dinner was an extra touch with a delicious menu and view. Definitely an experience if travelling with your partner.
The fact that we couldn't stay longer!

Beautiful view from the rooftop pool, very friendly staff, nice ambience with live music and super friendly staff!
Parking was a bit limited and unclear, no beach access and not a nice beach close by..

Design was stunning, right by the beach and we were able to upgrade our room for €30 to a sea view. We were also given a free bottle of champagne and flowers over the bed on our arrival.
More chocolates on pillow!

It’s in a good location and the room was lovely and large (though very dark).
The staff were not very friendly in general (apart from Alambique, where they were excellent. The towels were awful and the loungers cheap considering this is supposed to be a Savoy Signature place. It doesn’t compare favourably with others in the chain. Felt very impersonal.

Position, equipment. Pool on the rooftop, cleanness.
The service at the Trapiche restaurant (on 8th floor) was awfull and very very slow. I had to wait more than 15-20 minutes every time I ordered something. It was the same during day as well as during the dinner. And it was not because the restaurant was full of guests……..

Facilities, spa and location
Very nice
The food was ok but not up to the standards of the hotel
