About this cottage rental
Turrock Cottage is situated along the Wicklow Way, on the east side of Stookeen Hill, with views over South Wicklow and North Wexford. Eircode is Y14F308.
The cottage is within a farmyard, and close to the main house where we live. We are close to Shillelagh and Tinahely villages, and the cottage is an ideal base for exploring the delights of both Wicklow and Wexford. Avoca, the Ballykissangel village, is just 25kms away while Dublin is 70 kms away. Both the medieval city of Kilkenny and Glendalough are less than an hour’s drive away.
An ancient oak forest, Tomnafinnogue Wood, is a beautiful place to walk, any time of year and the beautiful Altamont Gardens and Huntington Castle are always worth a visit. Horse riding, fishing and the Coolattin Golf Club are all available locally. No visit to Turrock is complete without a visit to the Dying Cow pub where you can relax and look at the views, hear some traditional music being played by local musicians and while away the hours.
For walkers, we are on the Tinahely to Clonegal leg of the Wicklow Way and are close to the Tinahely loop walks which cater for walkers of varying fitness levels.
We are a perfect location for guests attending weddings at Ballybeg House,Lisnavagh House or Mount Wolseley Hotel. We are a 12 minute drive to Ballybeg House and 15 minutes to both Lisnavagh House and the Mount Wolseley.
Our traditional stone cottage sleeps 5 in comfort but can accommodate 6 by request,if 3 sleep in the downstairs bedroom. There is a triple room, a double room and a single bed loft above the wood-burning stove fireplace. The dining area/kitchen is very spacious with a high ceiling allowing plenty of light and is complete with a large Belfast sink and traditional pine dresser. The large dining table seats 6 comfortably on traditional Bentwood chairs, but will squeeze in more if visitors arrive. The table is perfect for hosting long, lazy breakfasts and cosy, evening meals while the stove with its dramatic granite chimney breast heats the radiators throughout the cottage keeping it warm and comfortable. The kitchen is fitted out with dishwasher, fridge, microwave and washing machine. Local carpenters and wood-turners have crafted the many presses, worktops and lamp stands giving the cottage a warm, rustic feel. For wet or winter days, a CD/TV is available as well as a small library with a section of books, DVDS, magazines, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and Scrabble for those who crave excitement! A small sitting room with sofa and doors opening onto a raised stone deck continues on from the kitchen area. Outside furniture is available for those long, hot summer evenings when all you want to do is look at the magnificent views while having a cup of tea or glass of wine. Unfortunately internet is not currently available.
The bedrooms have exposed timber flooring while the kitchen and bathroom have traditional black slate tiles. The wet room/bathroom has a traditional Belfast sink and walk-in electric shower with stones foraged from Wicklow and Wexford beaches that massage your feet while you wash away the stresses of the day.
Sit out on the raised stone deck area and admire the views, listen to the donkeys serenading and the roosters and goat providing the perfect soundtrack to your day. Later in the evening, you may spot deer, see bats leaving their ‘batcave’ for their nightly flight; in early May you may be lucky enough to hear the cuckoo.
Our hens and ducks provide perfect eggs for breakfast when they are laying and our 2 ‘outside’ cats may come looking for attention. Brayden and Alex, our donkeys, are delighted to see new people who might give them the odd carrot. Juno, our dog is very friendly and cannot get enough attention.
Our 4 peacocks are a pleasure to watch especially the males Pluto and Apollo with their amazing display of colour and magnificent tail feathers.

Ciaran and Deirdre were welcoming and helpful. Best hosts and place ever to share a delightful and peaceful stay. We had lovely time in the cottage! It's like paradise.
The cottage's charming and cozy and surroundings are spectacular and gorgeous. You can travel around very easily even in the very narrow roads.
Listen to Deirdre's songs was magic! Let your soul sway to the traditional Irish music. She sings so wonderful.
Peacocks, chickens and geese sound when arrival. They always come closer to get some food or attention. Same as cats, Juno the dog and donkeys.
We highly recommend this place. It's really worth spending your vacation.

Truly an enjoyable experience staying at this unique cottage. Our host arranged many extras to make us comfortable. Such a cosy cottage. I wish we could have stayed longer. And he was a wealth of knowledge about the area and the culture of that part of Ireland. We felt very welcome.

We loved the animals. We wanted a traditional Irish countryside stay and this exceeded our expectations. The host Ciaran was amazing. He was incredibly friendly and so hospitable. He made us feel so welcomed and we loved talking to him. We will definitely be returning.

We had a wonderful time in March. We loved being away from the cities to enjoy the fresh air, calm surroundings and every lovely animal on the farm. Ciran is a wonderful host with lots of good hikingtips for the sorrounded area. We loved the details in the house and enjoyed some rainy afternoon in the living room with Mario beside a nice warm fireplace. We highly recommend to plan a stay in this cottage.

This property is nestled atop a hill on a one lane road. Ferns, fuschia, and foxglove line the drive. Once you arrive chickens, geese, and peacocks scurry around, calling out to sound your arrival. There is a pair of friendly donkeys, and farm cats looking for scratches. The cottage is like stepping back in time. Tastefully decorated, and stocked with all of the necessities. Our host was very welcoming, and gave us a wonderful tour. This is a rustic functional farm, so be prepared for a real experience. There is a pub just up the road with good food. There is a few local experiences to have, like wooded walks, and a castle. We hope to visit them on our next trip back.

Cottage was everything we imagined it would be! Ciaran and Diedre were outstanding hosts; very helpful and accommodating. Even had great recommendations for places to see in the area. Will definitely stay here again if given the opportunity and would highly recommend for anyone searching for a unique experience for their Irish holiday!

Turrock Cottage is a magical place. Everywhere you look there is something delightful to see. The owners were welcoming and helpful. Important that you like animals and don't mind driving on a narrow laneway. Closest food is about 15 minutes away. Would be a good idea to bring breakfast food with you. Would love to revist with family and friends.

This was a great place to unplug. We wish we had more time to be there and in warmer weather when we could have enjoyed the outdoors more than we were able to. The cats did not disappoint!

We had a fantastic couple of day among the geese and ducks, and had an extra occupant in a lovely placid cat. Deirdre and Ciaran are lovely, friendly people and the property is an experience in itself.

It's exactly as advertised -- a quiet, delightful country experience. The accommodations are top flight, the hospitality is infused with Irish warmth, and the furry and feathered friends add extra charm to it all. The road is a bit of a driving challenge but don't let that deter you. It's a great starting place for day trips to so many places. Bottom line -- we loved everything and every minute.

Lovely and restful.
For the 2nd leg of our trip we wanted someplace quiet but centrally located. This cottage was perfect. Ciaran was great at communicating with us pre-arrival and so very helpful and warm while we were there. The cottage itself was fabulous. Very tidy, beautifully appointed, quaint but spacious enough for 2 couples. Beds were comfortable with lovely linens. The only one of our 4 self catering accomodations to have wash clothes and topsheets! The locals (Juno the dog, donkeys, cats, chickens and ducks) were quite entertaining. We made day trips to Waterford, Kilbaggen, and Kilkenny easily from here. The washing machine and dishwasher were convenient, only thing missing was a tumble dryer but we had use of drying racks and a clothes line. I can not recommend a stay at the cottage highly enough.

A great experience!
We loved our time at the stone cottage “in the middle of nowhere”. The owners, the animals all made us feel very welcome. We purchased a Shillelagh in the village which is a perfect souvenir of our holiday in Ireland.

Perfect Cottage, Wonderful Animals!
The cottage was so charming with sweet details all around. The bed comfortable warmed with an electric mattress pad and heater; the bedroom nice and large as well as the kitchen area. The owner was very helpful with local information. Mario, the cottage cat, was a wonderful companion and came in daily to keep us company. Two donkeys enjoyed carrots; Juno, the border collie loved catching sticks, and the Indian runner ducks, geese, and chickens quite entertaining. I loved the experience of being here!

Enjoyed our stay immensely...cottage with character...great view...charming hosts..relaxing
Exactly what we wanted. A cottage with enough modern convenience yet the rustic charm to make it unique. The hosts are charming and helpful. And have the animals around gave it the right feel.. We must also express our appreciation to Mario for all the specialized attention and for him sharing his time with us.

Beautiful setting quaint cottage and amazing views. All you would want for a relaxing base to tour.
From the minute we arrived Ciaran and Deirdre made us feel totally welcome. The cottage was all we expected and more. It had views which were amazing the animals which were friendly and so much detail had gone into the decor to give it the rustic Irish feel. The area was good for touring but you could quite easy spend a few days here without ever leaving the cottage. The beds were comfortable and the spiral staircase an adventure. The hosts are excellent at what they do and I can't wait to my next visit.

Deserves 10 stars!!!!!
I can not say enough good things about this home and our hosts!!! We have traveled quite a lot and this home has been our absolute favorite! The home itself is absolutely gorgeous, the decor is beautiful and gives it such a homey feel, we enjoyed fresh eggs and homemade scones and wonderful conversations with our host. The animals were a bonus! We fed the donkeys and played with Juno (the dog) and loved on Milo (the cat) and laughed over George Clooney (the goose). There were walking trails on the property and we so enjoyed the peacefulness of the place. My daughter slept in one of the lofts upstairs and loved staring out the picture window as she fell asleep and then awoke each morning. We truly hated to leave! One more thing I will mention, our plane arrived in Dublin at 4:30 a.m. We had been on two flights with one very long layover and none of us had slept. We explored the city until we just simply had no energy left. We weren't supposed to check in till 4:00 but we ended up arriving at 3:00. Personally, I would've been a bit put out at our early arrival but our hosts were so kind. Even though they were in the midst of cleaning up from their last guests, they finished quickly and welcomed us inside. How's that for wonderful hosts? Again, we enjoyed this place more than any we have ever stayed at and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Best part of the entire trip to Ireland, staying at Turrock Cottage!
Our hosts, Ciaran and Dierdre, were so very warm and welcoming. Their farm, with wonderful and entertaining assortment of geese, ducks, chickens, two sweet rescued donkeys and much loved dog and kittys made our stay feel like we had gone back in time to a simpler, more peaceful way of life. Turrock Cottage was truly a lovely, beautifully restored home away from home and Ciaran and Dierdre were ever attentive to whatever we might need, whether directions and recommendations to area places of interest, to providing any essentials we might be missing, or just to sit and chat with us about the history of the place and people who had lived and visited there. Very warm and inviting - makes you want to go back!!!
