What a wonderful experience to sleep in a cave! The atmosphere was amazing and the amenities were great. Breakfast was great.

Location was amazing. Matera is the most amazing city in Puglia and this place is right in the heart of it. Matera is unique, unlike anywhere else we'd ever been and exceeded our expectations. Despite language barriers, staff were very friendly. Sleeping in a cave was also a unique experience.
I probably didn't read the detail in the correspondence re parking, but trying to find the accommodation and the park and ride shuttle in 40 degrees of heat was a stressful experience.

The location is great in Matera and it's truly a cave hotel as promised.
We had a bit a nightmare experience staying here. On our second night there, we found bedbugs in our bed. I miraculously managed to capture the first one we saw, and then after that we saw two more. After seeing the first bed bug we pulled up all the sheets and linings and saw the telltale signs of bedbugs: blood spots on the mattress cover, black/brown residue in the corners of the pillowcase, etc. Of course the biggest evidence was literally seeing multiple bedbugs crawling around. After realizing this, we've been noticing bites that resemble bedbug bits in the last few days -- we did spend one night in the bed and it seems like the insects bit us all over - we've been bitten over 2 dozen times each from just one night.
It was a horrible experience, and we had to ditch our luggage, and for good measure we threw out some of our clothing as well. It would have been too risky to keep our luggage, since we did find bedbugs crawling in our luggage once we noticed the issue and inspected everything. The bedbugs could have easily burrowed in the various linings of our luggage and bags.
We had a flight out the next day and we had to rush to a laundromat to hot wash our clothes and also purchase new luggage.
When we booked it, there were no reviews stating an issue with bedbugs. However, a few weeks before we arrived, it appears another guest had the exact same issue. If we had known that before arriving, we would not have come to the property. All in all this was an expensive problem, and we lost some nice luggage, shoes, and clothing in the process.
We're lucky we noticed this when we did. Otherwise we might have brought the bugs home in our luggage with us and caused an infestation in our own home.
We, along with our friends, booked 2 rooms. In the property's defense, they immediately agreed to refund our room (but not our friends' room). Our room was the only one with evidence of bedbugs.

What an honour to stay in a cave in Matera. Truly a great experience. Room had everything we needed. Breakfast was fantastic in the restaurant next door. We had dinner there and that was great.

Magic place in the heart of Sassi. Very friendly and helpful Vincenzo

The location is good. The room was clean
There was no window in our room. The room was little bit noisy because of electronic devices in the room.

Amazing location and spectacular view. Staff was very nice and helpful both with a late check-in and parking. Breakfast was varied and abundant. The room was very big and typical of the location's cave homes. Really enjoyed the warm towels in the bathroom and the shower pressure 😊.
The heater and the dehumidifier in the room were too loud and too hot. We didn't know how to turn down the heater and considering it was late, didn't want to disturb the staff. So we had trouble sleeping. Since we were up, we wanted to prepare some coffee in the fully furnished kitchen, but the igniter on the stove top didn't work. So we waited for the restaurant to open to have some coffee. .

location
well cave dwelling is stuffy and a bit smelly but that goes with the territory. it was a unique experience to sleep in one.
4.5
Location close to upper edge of Sassi and there was a nice view part of the Sasso Briseno, including the Duomo. Unusual room configurations within caves may be attractive for some. Befs wete comfortable and rooms have small kitchens. The owner Vicenzo was very helpful, although he does not speak English. He picked us up frim the bus stop and brought us closer to the property than a taxi would, he arranged for a van to drive 4 of us and luggage to Bari Airport, and he printed boarding passes for us.
Even though it is close to the edge of the Sassi, there is walking on steps and eneven surfaces required to get to it. Some may not like the room configurations, definitely not standardized.

Guy booking us in wasn’t very helpful, told us we couldn’t leave bags before our 2pm check in time. Everything was locked up when we returned at 2 where I had to call to ask if I could check in where he turned up eventually at 2:30

The location was perfect, one of the most beautiful places you could be! Views were stunning.
The hotel's dog was very friendly

Location was incredible with a patio over looking the city. Felt like you were in Roman times! Breakfast is a must with the best coffee. The staff was very friendly and accommodating

A unique stay. The owner was very accommodating and made sure we had what we needed. Also helped with transport when the cab I hailed cancelled on me.
The parking is very far from the hotel so it would be better if u park at a closer location. It's a cave room so it gets a little bit more humidity than the outside.

The place was well furnished, and clean. The location in the Sassi was excellent and the owner was very nice and super helpful.
Unfortunately we could not stay in the accommodation because the humidity and the mold in the air made both of us have a headache and start coughing. We had to find another place to stay and lost the money due to the cancellation policy.

The host was very friendly. He helped us late at night when we could not work out the air conditioner. The property was in a good location and the room very comfortable. It was great to stay in a cave room!

Perfect location, in the center of the old part of Matera (Sassi). Cute breakfast.
No air conditioning in the cave. There is no free parking! If you come in the evening it is really hard to get a parking space, except for the garage (1.5€ per hour), 500 m from the residence.

Fascinating and authentic - brilliantly located in the Sassi, overlooking the amazing Matera backdrop

Incredible location, in the very heart of Matera
The breakfast was good, but lacked anything other than cakes and juice. The coffee was great, but that aaa about it.
2.5
It's a proper cave, nice experience.
Like you can see in some other reviews, the owner is kind of an a...hol. the pictures of the room are from all the rooms he has, and of course when you get there, you will get the smaller and less good looking. There is a strong smell of cheap cleaning products that stinks for hours. The bed sheets a bit sticky and the AC leaks so much that makes a little pond in front of the bathroom, if you stay here, put a towel in the floor or you may slip hard there. There is also some mold in the shower.

location and comfort was superb.
breakfast was not as varied as we expected.

They should definitely change the bed. The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on.
Hairdryer didn’t work and it was from the stone age and the room smelled weird.

Beautiful location that was worth all the steps. The room was really unique. Spacious also. Highly recommend this place. Enjoyed dinner at the restaurant one evening and it was quite good.
Breakfast started at 8 am which is late for us but with the stove in the room it was possible to have coffee in the room- so it worked out well.
