About this cottage rental
Your very own, completely private, Colonial Williamsburg-style Cottage near the Bucks County town of Yardley, Pennsylvania, right on the Delaware River. The Cottage is just 13 miles south of New Hope and Lambertville and 25 minutes from Princeton. New York City is a little over an hour away by train (Amtrak or New Jersey Transit to Trenton). Philadelphia is about 30 minutes by car, or you can take a SEPTA commuter train from Yardley.
Built by Robert Johnson, a renowned Bucks County cabinetmaker, and furnished with 18th-century reproduction furniture and Oriental rugs, the Cottage is ideal for weekend getaways, week-long vacations, writer's retreats, and house-hunting visits. As many of our guests have said, this is the perfect place to unwind.
The Cottage living space (750 square feet, all on one floor) is quite comfortable for two people. But it also works for a family with one child, or for three close friends who don't mind sharing a bathroom. Because the rooms are small and the floor plan is a bit unusual (you walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom), we suggest that you contact us first if you're considering reserving the Cottage for three adults, or for two adults and a teenager.
There's a wonderful corner fireplace in the living room with raised paneling and a custom-built mantel. The eat-in kitchen is small, but quite serviceable. We've equipped it with everything our guests need to make basic meals and snacks.
The main bedroom is furnished with a queen-size canopy bed. The "Tavern Room" off the kitchen provides a twin bed for extra sleeping space. (We don't call this a bedroom because it doesn't have doors or a closet. For a bit of privacy, there are blackout curtains at each of the two doorways, and blackout shades at the windows.) We also have a portable Graco crib and child's booster seat that we can have set up and ready for those traveling with an infant or toddler.
The Cottage shares a 3.5-acre riverfront property with our 200-year-old farmhouse. That's where we live and write our books (over 60 titles on a wide range of topics). Most of our books have taught people how to tap into the incredible power of the online world -- starting in 1982! So, of course, the Cottage offers high-speed Internet access (wireless and cable) and HDTV with Netflix streaming movies and TV shows.
THINGS TO DO...
• Visit historic sites such as the Washington Crossing Museum, the Old Barracks in Trenton, and Pennsbury Manor, William Penn's reconstructed home and farm.
• There are lots of award-winning restaurants in historic buildings up and down the river and canal. Most encourage you to bring your own wine or spirits.
• Local farms let you "pick-your-own" berries and apples, and of course, fresh sweet corn, tomatoes, and other home-grown veggies are available from local farm stands, in season. You can kayak, fish, or boat on the Delaware River. (An absolutely fantastic fresh fish market is just a mile down the road. They will gut and filet your choice while you wait.)
• Princeton, the Princeton battlefield, Nassau Hall, and other sites are only minutes away. (Don't miss the Princeton University Art Museum -- a truly impressive collection, wonderfully presented -- and the University Chapel with its magnificent stained glass windows.)
• For a more kid-friendly experience, Sesame Place is just 10 minutes away. Or you can rent a rowboat, kayak, or paddleboat at Core Creek Park and enjoy the natural surroundings of Lake Luxembourg. If you're feeling especially adventurous, drive north about 45 minutes to Point Pleasant and 'River Country' for tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and rafting. (The company's buses pick you up at the down-river destination and drive you back to your car.)
• For woodland walks and non-stressful hiking, there is Tyler Park in Newtown and the Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve on River Road just south of New Hope.
• And speaking of New Hope, it's a great place to stroll and to 'people-watch.' But you can also take in a show at the newly renovated Bucks County Playhouse, or catch a ride into the countryside aboard the New Hope-Ivyland Railroad, a classic steam locomotive.
• And don't miss Lambertville, the town directly across the river from New Hope. Art galleries, antique shops, great restaurants, the Golden Nugget flea market just down the road... Lambertville is well worth the walk across the New Hope-Lambertville bridge.
There really is no place like our Bucks County Cottage on the Delaware. Come visit us soon!
Available year-round. No smoking and no pets, please.

My husband and I had a wonderful low key vacation here at this fabulous cottage. It was central to many things. It was cozy and well equipped with convenient parking. The home had modern conveniences mixed with a historical decorum which gave the cottage a special vibe. The owners provided a wealth of information about the area which was really helpful. They also provided access to their herbal garden which allowed me to cook some very tasty food that we bought from the local Amish market. Overall the area is beautiful and scenic and I highly recommend this property for anyone looking to unwind and relax in a beautiful space near the Delaware River.

I cannot say enough about this lovely cottage. Emily, the hostess was kind and gracious. We arrived to fresh cut flowers and a welcoming basket of snacks. The location was an ideal distance away from the crowds for a Princeton graduation. It is about a 20 minute drive to campus and you do not have to navigate Rt 1 from here. The hosts even adorned the cottage with a Princeton flag! The cottage was spotless and fully appointed. If you bring groceries, you have a full kitchen, - milk, orange juice and coffee were provided. All linens were also provided - even soap. The bookshelf had something for everyone plus a few games. The town of Yardley was a minute away with plenty of restaurants and a WaWa convenience store. The river is directly in front of the cottage, across the road. You will feel more than comfortable during your relaxing stay -from the fairy lights in the beautiful tall tree outside your door to the warmth of the cozy cottage's interior.

This was the perfect place to rest and write. The cottage is beautiful. The wood-burning fireplace provided a picturesque atmosphere for evenings and cold days. The canal tow path, located a very short drive away, was a great place to walk, stretch your legs, and be out in nature. And with shops and stores in nearby towns, the location is great! Emily and Alfred were wonderful and attentive hosts, and their personal touches made this a great stay.

We stayed at this perfect cozy cottage over the Christmas holiday and and it felt like home. Emily had put up a Christmas tree and with the fire crackling it was very festive. Thank you for the best Christmas we have had since we retired to SC.

Emily was very nice and welcoming. The cottage was cozy and clean on a beautiful property overlooking the Delaware across the road. It had just turned to Fall with some chilly nights and the owners made sure that the fireplace was ready to use with an ample supply of wood.
We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We so enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage that we will return next time we visit family nearby. Emily couldn’t have been more accommodating, stocking the kitchen with treats and morning essentials. The Williamsburg inspired design was perfect for our Bucks County experience. And Yardley is a delight!

Cottage on the Delaware is our "go to" place when we travel to the Trenton/Princeton/New Hope/Yardley areas. Emily and Alfred have every situation...every "I forgot"...every "every day" issues....covered. More than covered. Handled! Problems you don't even think about...lightbulbs...flashlights...plastic dishes for outdoor dining...brooms, mops, cleaners...absolutely ANYTHING you may need. A warm. Inviting. Comfortable. "Home". Thank you, Emily and Alfred. Yet again.

It was obvious from the start that Emily had put a lot of thought into the furnishings and amenities
It was obvious from the start that Emily had put a lot of thought into the furnishings and amenities of this beautiful little cottage. My wife and I stayed for five days in May. We enjoyed views of the Delaware river from the well-manicured front yard and we were visited by deer in the back on most evenings. Recommendations for local dining were spot on and we felt like we were close to everything we wanted to see in this historic part of the country. This was a perfect springtime getaway for us and the details provided by our host were very much appreciated.

Nice warm cottage
My wife and I enjoyed a few nights at this "Getaway Cottage" in late February, 2022. It was cold outdoors, but the gas furnace kept the cottage toasty indoors, even without using the fireplace. But the kiln-dried wood and fire starter pieces made it easy to light a fire a couple of times, just for the ambience. The cottage is very well equipped with everything one could want in the kitchen for cooking and serving. The bathroom was clean and nice with plenty of hot water for my long showers. We slept great every night. Overall, it's a wonderful place to stay.

The cottage is exactly as described by the hosts, and by all past guests: it is an exceptional choice of accommodation in the area. We had a truly lovely stay. The cottage is utterly charming, and the park-like grounds are the perfect place for relaxing. The bedroom windows look out on the garden; it was nice to lie in bed and look at the view. We enjoyed candle-lit dinners at the table and chairs set outside under a beautiful old tree. Sat on the front steps at night looking at the Delaware River, listening to the night sounds of insects. The village of Yardley is close by, and also charming, with some nice restaurants. We really enjoyed walking along the Delaware Canal towpath in the evenings, felt like a hidden world. Wish we could have stayed longer! Definitely would love to go back and stay again!

When I book a vacation home, I look for several things: First is a home that is private. I avoid commercialized places with crowds of people like a resort or condo. This cottage allowed my wife and I to relax alone and in peace. That's true rejuvenation! Second is a place with character. Who wants to stay in a cookie cutter cottage, apartment, hotel room, or condominium? We love the way we stepped into another world when we entered this cottage. Finally, I want the stay to be a easy to book. This one was a breeze - just the right of communication to make everything clear without a lot of red tape and stress. Thank you!
