Great property for a quick trip into Big Bend. Being out at night was the real treat - having the cafe nearby made dinner options easier when cooking wasn’t in the cards.

The Alma Ranch is a really nice, cozy trailer that has everything you need. We really liked the full kitchen and enjoyed having wifi and access to streaming services. I would recommend storing food away because, as you might expect, there are mice that sneak in at night. We did not actually see them, but they enjoyed our blackberry strudel when we were sleeping! Also, take super quick showers because the water is limited.

It locates very country side and I think it is ideal for star watching. I recommend to bring a lot of drinking water. The hotel is well maintained, but the amount of water is limited. No problem for electricity because power lines supply it. (Not solar panels) I surprised the Wifi speed was fast.

Cozy but ok. We found two mice underneath the sink one dead one was still moving in the glue trap!!! The water was not drinkable and left and slimy residue on your hands and body!! Power went for a day also. We should have went three miles down the road!!!

Accurate listing, simple and was exactly what we needed. Great view of the stars on a clear night and close to Big Bend National Park. We would definitely look to stay here again

Beautiful home very close to Sea World, the zoo, balboa park, La Jolla, grocery stores, and restaurants! The pool and hot tub are well maintained. The kitchen and bathrooms are up to date. If you want a quiet vacation and just want to hang around the house it’s perfect for that too! Bruce, the property manager, was very knowledgeable of the area and suggested restaurants and grocery stores. We tried 3 of the restaurants and they were all fantastic! Highly recommended!

Location was wonderful. Very remote and set off the road for a mini neighbors. The stars were amazing. The only thing I would say would be an improvement is to add some lawn chairs to the home so that viewing the stares would be easier. Very clean and well-kept. Would definitely recommend

Stayed 2 more nights than planned.
We had the time of our lives out in big bend and the comfy stay at the soul of the desert accomidated all our needs from A/C to TV. Coffee and water were a plus and so was watching scarface in the middle of nowhere. We plan on going back after we rest for a few months. Water pressure was fine, take a 5 min shower and go back out. Definitely a bucket list trip that was perfect in every way.

Desert Shelter
Alma 2 sheltered us well from the Trans-Pecos weather and elements. We really appreciated knowing about Alma Ranch's non-potable water situation ahead of our arrival and then discovering that the shower barely functioned during our visit, were glad to know that showers are available at Terlingua Ranch Resort. Cooking was easy as everything in the kitchen was great.

Very Basic Property
Nice. The non-potable water situation kind of bugged us after a while. If I put my toothbrush in my mouth after I rinse it in the water am I going to get sick, probably not but??? The place is as described. No water pressure in shower so it takes a long time to rinse. Hard to justify the price for such a basic stay.

Big Bend and roughing it for a few days
My wife and I along with an old friend spent a few days hiking in Big Bend National Park. If you've checked, you'll know that accommodations are hard to come by, requiring advanced reservations and an open mind.
This trailer has two bedrooms nicely separated by a small LR and efficient eat-in kitchen with seating for four. Nothing fancy---but it's all here, from full-size fridge to microwave to coffeemaker. There is also a compact washet-dryer combo----and believe me, you will get dusty.
The building is one of two trailers on this lot. It is about 13 miles from the main road, about 20 miles from the nearest park opening. The 13-mile road has scattered small homes and trailers, but just 3 miles beyond the trailer entrance is a compound of small duplexes, I believe a mix of private and rentals, with a charming restaurant, the Mad Rabbit, open as I recall from 8 am to 7 pm. Wonderful food and service. There is outdoor seating as well. This extends the lodging experience very nicely.
The only drawback to the trailer itself is the poor water pressure at the showerhead; there must be a clogged sprayer since all other pressures were fine.
As the ad states, you do need to your own drinking water, as everyone in the area has a rain-catching cistern for other purposes.
The sunsets from here are outstanding, the Park a national treasure!

Underwhelming Accommodations, Beautiful Location
Checking in and locating the property was incredibly easy! The land surrounding the cabin was beautiful and the view of the stars at night was better than any I've ever seen before!
I was unaware until receiving check in instructions that the water on site was nonpotable; we were able to grab gallons of water before arriving, but I wish that had been communicated in the listing. You will need the gallons of water for drinking, brushing teeth, and washing your face. The water pressure and temperature control for our shower was terrible! We each took only one quick, mostly cold with moments of scolding hot shower the entire 3 night stay because of how bad the water temp/pressure was.
The beds were confortable and clean. My husband spent a bit of time tightening screws on the other pieces of furniture, such as the dining chairs and table, as they were very unstable. A light cover even fell onto the dining table one night because it hadn't been screwed in properly and the railings on the deck outside desperately need repair/maintenance as they were very wobbly. Overall the trailer was clean on the surface, but doesn't seem to have had a detail clean done in quite some time and it needs some organization - especially in the kitchen.
Another thing that isn't really a negative or positive, but I wanted to let people potentially booking to visit Big Bend National Park in that it is a little over an hour drive to get into BB from this location. We did not mind the drive, but I wanted to make sure that was communicated well as that is a big reason people visit the area.
Overall, the trailers were okay enough to not complain during our stay, and the location really was stunning, but I likely won't stay here again.

Just as advertised! A truly unique and relaxing vacationing experience.
We were greeted within minutes by the property manager who came by to check on us. She was awesome and provided so much helpful (and interesting) info about the area. We rented alma 2, our friends rented 1. The kids went back and forth and had a blast! My only complaint is that it was challenging to get the water temperature right in the house….was either scalding hot or freezing cold. Once i cracked the code and learned how to manage, all was good. But be careful of the hot water. We would definitely stay here again!

Disappointing
Only stayed one night because water was unpottable and barely fit to shower in. Bugs and spiders were a problem. Much smaller than appeared in pictures we saw.

Great Remote Getaway
We loved staying here over Labor Day! The property was comfortable and had great views. It was far enough way for us to feel like we were entirely off the grid, but close enough to Terlingua Ranch Lodge and Terlingua that we had everything we needed. Thanks for sharing your space with us!

Perfect place to stay with all the comforts of home!
Very clean and spacious for our family of 4. It was very nice to come back from a long day at Big Bend and be able to have a quick shower and cook if we decided to. I was surprised at how good the wifi was, the kids enjoyed being able to come back and have some down time playing games. The washer and dryer worked great to keep our stuff clean and ready to go. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you Wilma for all of your help.

Room with a View
Soul of the Desert affords all of the comforts of home with a great view. It was the perfect set up for two friends so each had their own space and bedroom with a living area in the middle. Sit out and gaze at the stars, hike around the property and take in a beautiful sunrise or sunset.

Neat option for big bend trip
The place is pretty rural but have all the essentials we need for travels. I am surprised that it has a reasonable good internet speed in such rural place.

Loved the location! but the place needs lots of updates.
Loved location, such as seeing all the mountains and beautiful stars at night. But the place needs lots of updates, such as new mattress, because it was lumpy and uncomfortable , doors on bedrooms needs to be replaced, did not like the positioning of the microwave, because it was up to high and it was to difficult to reach also lots of dog hair every where. Also could improve on entertainment the movies that where provided where out dated and would not play through. But all in all we loved the location and would of enjoyed our stay even more had theses improvements been made.
